At work I'm using the latest Firefox (run out of my home directory, it updates) on CentOS 7. For the life of me I can't get Firefox to play many videos, such as ones on twitter here (https://twitter.com/MarkRuffalo/status/1154458756853510144). The message I get in the console is:
Cannot play media. No decoders for requested formats: video/mp4
I've already installed the following packages that I thought related: gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free-gtk-1.10.4-3.el7.x86_64 gstreamer1-1.10.4-2.el7.x86_64 gstreamer1-plugins-ugly-free-1.10.4-3.el7.x86_64 gstreamer-plugins-bad-free-0.10.23-23.el7.x86_64 gstreamer1-plugins-base-1.10.4-2.el7.x86_64 gstreamer-plugins-base-0.10.36-10.el7.x86_64 phonon-backend-gstreamer-4.6.3-3.el7.x86_64 gstreamer-tools-0.10.36-7.el7.x86_64 gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free-1.10.4-3.el7.x86_64 gstreamer-0.10.36-7.el7.x86_64 gstreamer-plugins-good-0.10.31-13.el7.x86_64 gstreamer1-plugins-good-1.10.4-2.el7.x86_64
I've also gone through and built ffmpeg on my own and added it to the path. Before building it I built many codec libraries as well, such as: x265, x264, opus, mp3lame, avcodec, yasm, vpx, and more. ffmpeg seems to work fine for me, and it's in my path. I also added the library output directory to my LD_LIBRARY_PATH. But Firefox still won't play these videos. Any hints as to what I might need?
