I'm hoping the developers of Firefox see this...

There are far too many context menu items that I neither need nor use. I would like it to only show those context menu items that I make use of, but there's no way to do it. I would like to see future updates or iterations have this incorporated as part of the Settings.

Many pages in firefox become unresponsive for me while loading and then appear to never finish loading. The address bar remains mostly functional, but:

  • the page itself responds to no clicks or scrolls
  • the favicon in the tabs above the address bar is replaced with an animated loading icon and stays that way
  • the refresh button to the left of the address bar becomes an X and stays that way
  • the cursor icon becomes stuck (e.g. if it was a pointer, it remains a pointer no matter where on the page I move it.)

One example page where this happens is the firefox 'Get community support' forums page itself which loads when I click 'ask now': https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/get-community-support?exit_aaq=1

What's particular about my setup?

I have produced this behaviour when having no browser extensions at all, not even my password manager. I'm using firefox on Linux (Ubuntu 22.04 LTS). I found that on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, it comes installed as a snap even if I install it with `apt install firefox`, and I really needed a non-snap implementation so that I could integrate my password manager. (I'm using 1Password. To integrate the 1Password browser extension with the 1Password desktop application, I can't have firefox sandboxed by snap.) Therefore, I installed firefox as a deb package using the instructions given on https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2022/04/how-to-install-firefox-deb-apt-ubuntu-22-04:

```
  1. remove the Firefox Snap:
sudo snap remove firefox
  1. add the Mozilla Team PPA to your list of software sources:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/ppa
  1. tell apt to prefer the PPA/deb/apt version of Firefox:
echo ' Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-mozillateam Pin-Priority: 1001 ' | sudo tee /etc/apt/preferences.d/mozilla-firefox
  1. tell apt to install future upgrades automatically
echo 'Unattended-Upgrade::Allowed-Origins:: "LP-PPA-mozillateam:${distro_codename}";' | sudo tee /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/51unattended-upgrades-firefox
  1. install the Firefox deb using apt:
sudo apt install firefox ```
Is there a better course of action? Having this password-manager integration is essential to me.
Honestly I don't have a clue as to where to look to resolve this sudden issue because I've never seen it before. While testing a simple single page static web site firefox keeps loading the same page into a new tab and a rate that I cannot keep up with. In a few short minutes there are hundreds of tabs open each with the same page. I've tried cancelling Firefox, rebooted my system, even removed and reinstalled firefox all to no avail (using Linux Mint). What's interesting is that all other browsers I try do NOT do this. They all work just fine. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions as to what might cause this and/or where to look to diagnose? Thanks in advance.
Hello, I have been using Firefox as my main browser for more than a decade. One could say i am some Mozilla fanboy, having convinced many of my friends and relatives to use Firefox instead of any chrome based options (Which there are to many these days). It struck me today, as i was reworking some workflow elements in many programs i use daily, that it is impossible to change any key binding in Firefox anymore. I know it has been a while now, and i searched all over the web for an answer or a solution, but at this point it is clear that other than going in the code and recompiling Firefox manually, it is not possible. I stumbled upon the (only) extension that allows to change some shortcuts, but the two that i wanted to change are impossible to configure from it, being disabling only f12 as i would use it for other things but i do not want to lose the dev console and also ctrl+L to open the address bar, it is quite inconvenient and would much prefer to use ctrl+spacebar as it matches many other bindings i am using with other software. There have been many other features that were changed in the recent years that made me start to look for an alternative, as i see features melting away almost as quickly as the user base of the product.
I do understand that one person's problem is not going to change the way a big piece of software is working, but i am wondering, why are the users losing such features as basic as customizing key bindings in a piece of software that used to be so incredibly customizable in the past? Why is the only viable option to anything chrome based losing it's edge over the competition? Is Firefox v150 be based on the chromium engine or will it die before?
Thank you in advance, and no, i don't need the link to the shortcut page, i already have it.
I just reinstalled my operative system, and with that my Firefox settings got reset. I know there is an entry in about:config to prevent ads from opening new tabs and pop ups without authorization, even from legit websites like the login pop-up windows when doing a sign in in Google, in those cases to allow the windows it's needed to click on the lock icon next to the URL bar and allow it from there. The problem is that I don't remember the name of that setting and I have spend an hour looking for it on Google.
Whenever I attempt to access DRM content such as netflix or spotify I am notified that the WidevineCdm plugin has crashed. I'm running firefox version 101.0.1 on Kubuntu 22.04, I am running the debian package release, but I had this issue with the snap version too. I'm on Ubuntu 22.04 which is using the snap package of Firefox.
It seems that I cannot open local files in the /tmp directory. When I place a test.html file there and run `firefox /tmp/test.html`, it returns a file not found error. Why?
I don't have the problem with files in my home directory.
Hello,
I've spent several hours today trying to fix FireFox slow start up on my system. After start up (about 2 full minutes), everything works normally. The hardware is an ASUS A88xm-A MB, A10-6800K processor, 16G DDR3, runs OS and programs off an SSD. I worked through all the slow startup suggestions, ran memtest (0 Errors, 1 Pass), disabled all add ons, (even the OpenH264 video codec (I use the onboard HDMI, no graphics card)), turned off hardware acceleration, etc. When starting in troubleshoot mode, less than 30 seconds, (acceptable), but I really don't know where to begin with the "More Troubleshooting Information" when I look at the table generated by it. There have been no other problems to date with the system, and the long start-up time began with 20.04 Ubuntu (about a minute), then got worse when I upgraded to 22.04 to try to solve THAT problem. Currently running FF 104.0, and the update page says wait for a distro update if that is how it was installed. I believe 104.0 is the latest Linux 64b version though. All updates to the system are done as soon as I'm notified of them. there have been none since the upgrade a few days ago.
Any suggestions? Gotta get some sleep now... TIA, Dave
I'm running Firefox 99.0.1 on Ubuntu 22.04. Recently (I think since I updated to Ubuntu 22.04 about a week ago), Firefox has been refusing to show me file upload dialogs. When I click a button that's supposed to give me one, nothing happens.
This has been happening with: - The "attach files" button in Gmail - A file upload button on Gradescope (website for managing homework assignments) - File -> Open File... and Ctrl+O.
Dragging and dropping a file onto an email in Gmail does attach the file -- it's just that the button doesn't work.
I've tried restarting, and I've tried running Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode -- so far nothing has fixed the problem. What else should I do?
I upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04 recently. Since then Firefox 104.0.2 (64-bit) has been arbitrarily freezing; sometimes i have to restart the computer while most of the times I am able to kill the Firefox main process and restart Firefox.
The freeze occurs when i try to save a Web page; i don't see any "logic" as to which Web pages cause Firefox to freeze. It seems totally arbitrary.
I clear my downloads list everyday (sometimes more frequently than that) and clear cookies & cache everyday.
I have selected "no proxy" by default, in 'Connection Settings'.
This never happened until after i upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04.
I've browsed the support pages and don't find anything relevant to my problem. If I'm overlooking something, I apologize in advance!
I have attached a 'screen capture' image of Firefox processes just before i killed the main process.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Ramki
I store all of my passwords in Firefox's "Logins & Passwords" feature. Even for things that are not online in any way. Whenever I need to create a new login & password record for something online, Firefox will automatically generate a password and give me the option to fill that into the new password and confirm new password fields. For anything that's not online I open Firefox and click the "Create New Login" button and fill in the details. I then go to a site online that generates passwords for me and fill that into the password field for the new entry.
Is there a way to get Firefox to offer a newly generated password at this point?
Firefox worked perfectly, but since a few days I can't download anything. I'm using Mozilla Firefox snap for Ubuntu 22.04, version 110.0.1 (64 bits) canonical-002 - 1.0 With Chrome everything works perfectly so I assume it's a problem from Firefox.
When I open a PDF, a MP3 or any file, the "save" option doesn't display anything. Usually it opened a dialog where I could choose the folder where I wanted to download the file, but now I have nothing.
I have only 4 extensions: - adblocker ultimate - duckduckgo privacy essentials - vuejs dev tools - zotero connector
I always had them and I never encountered any problem.
Using Firefox version 102:
Open console tools and navigate to Network tab Right click on a POST request "Edit and Resend" is no longer an option? There is still the resend option Clicking resend allows you to edit the request, but unfortunately the "Content-Length" attribute is not automatically updated like it was with edit and resend, so all requests fail after being edited. This is because the Content-Length header indicates the size of the message body, in bytes, sent to the recipient. When you add or removes bytes in a JSON request for example, it doesn't get updated. The attribute can also not be manually set. How can I use version 102 to edit and resend requests the same way I used to?
Thank you.
