Having some trouble with Firefox and I'm at my wits end on how to fix it. Clicking the Firefox icon in Windows 10 (whether that's in the Start menu, the taskbar or the app itself in Program Files) won't launch Firefox. The blue loading spinner appears briefly next to the pointer, then disappears. Sometimes a Firefox process appears in Task Manager then instantly disappears, but sometimes it doesn't. Here's what I've tried so far:
- Restarting - Reinstalling - Deleting my Firefox profile and all Firefox app files - Launching in safe mode by holding shift - Launching in safe mode by adding the "-safe-mode" comment - Running as administrator - Checking it's not being blocked by antivirus - Loading the Firefox profile manager by typing "firefox.exe -P" in the run dialog box. This does the same as trying to load Firefox - nothing happens
I can't think what else to do. It may be a coincidence, but my primary monitor died, I restarted the PC and then Firefox wouldn't work. I can't see how it could be related, but who knows.
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello!
For the last few days my Firefox browser is unable to start. I have tried reinstalling it, turning off antivirus/firewall and cleaning up the registry but it is still the same results every time.

Appreciate any help concerning this matter! /Jenny

Any time I open Firefox and then immediately try to navigate to any webpage, nothing happens for a few seconds. I'd guess 6+ seconds? The loading icon on the tab will move, but there is no network activity indicated at the bottom of the window nor in the Network Monitor (ctrl+shift+e) until after a few seconds. Once this delay period has passed, all pages load as normal. It does this every time, without fail, even in safe mode. I am using the 64-bit version but also had a 32-bit version still installed, so I decided to launch that version instead, since it still uses my profile and so everything should otherwise be the same. This version did not have the delay. I was able to load a webpage immediately. I have deleted this 32-bit version, thinking it may be interfering somehow (perhaps because using the same profile? idk), but it changed nothing. I can't imagine how the 64-bit version would perform worse than the 32-bit, so I don't just assume switch over. I'd like to continue with the 64-bit version, as I have sufficient RAM to make use of it. I've tried a good handful of solutions, but nothing. Any ideas? I've included troubleshooting info, in case that's useful at all.

I am running a recently refreshed version of Firefox 71.0 (64 bit). My Firefox is closing completely whenever I try to browse to locate a file. This happens on multiple sites, but as an example, I went to https://send.firefox.com/ and tried to browse out for a file. The file explorer window opens, but then Firefox freezes and shuts down. There are no crash reports generated when this happens. This also happens when I run Firefox in safe mode. This has been happening for a few days and was also happening in Firefox 70.0.1.
I tried the same process using Microsoft Edge, and I am able to browse out for the file without issue.
Thank You

I don't normally save and restore sessions, but do have firefox set to restore the previous session in the event of a crash.
Recently, following a power cut, such a session restore occurred, correctly restoring all the pages I had open at the time (not many), and the scroll position within the page.
Since this happened, any page I open on one particular site (https://www.theguardian.com) now always scrolls to the end of the page, and I have to manually scroll back up to the top. Once loaded, you can scroll the page normally, but F5 refresh will reload the page and scroll to the end again. This effect is persistent across restarts, and I've not found a way to get rid of it.
I've tried simulating another crash with that site open, scrolled to the top, and I've tried enabling saving the session on exit and restoring on startup - none of this has changed anything. In both cases it restored the session and scrolled to the end.
Any suggestions as to where this effect might be coming from?

The Problem: I recently noticed that decoding youtube videos in 2160p60fps is choppy beyond recognition.
Diagnose: While playing said videos in firefox i was able to observe in the task manager that actually none of my graphics cards video decoding capabilities were used. At lower video qualities/resolutions the hardware accelerated video decoding of the graphics card was also not kicking in, but in these cases my cpu was still able to cope with the decoding load, so I never noticed the missing hardware acceleration. To narrow the origin of problem down I tried watching the same videos in edge, chrome and even downloaded a short 2160p60fps clip to play with VLC and everything worked fine, just not in my favorite browser firefox :(
What i already did trying to solve the problem (in order): -Restart Firefox without addons -Refresh Firefox -Create a new Profile
Additional Info: Nvidia Driver Version 441.20
If there is anymore useful info I'm more than happy to provide it.
Thanks for taking the time reading this an providing help.

I was browsing as normal when I navigated to a site I have been to many times and that I consider reputable (Etsy) and the browser immediately went to a screen that said something about how Firefox had done updates in the background and I needed to click a button to "Restart Firefox." Obviously this looked fishy to me and I didn't click; instead I killed Firefox via the command line and then restarted it. When I did, one of my windows didn't look right (I had two windows open, each with several tabs)-- the tab bar at the top just cut off halfway through one of the tabs instead of me being able to scroll over. In addition, right after I was playing a game on my computer and part of the game board froze. Now everything seems normal. Is it possible I managed to end up with some malware even though I didn't click on the link? Has anyone seen this particular scam before?
Thank you!

Look, this is a huge problem because this message isn't just showing up on my Fire Fox browser, it's also on my TOR browser. I'm not seeking to fix TOR here, I'm just saying that it's on there too and TOR uses Fire Fox - this message appears nowhere else on my PC or browsers. My system was just purchased brand new in Feb. This message did not display when I dl either browser. I've NEVER downloaded ANY Avast or anything like it, I use Windows Defender and that's it. I'm not a techie - but I'm like really neurotic over hard drive space - I don't download ANYTHING unless I absolutely HAVE to with the exception of browsers. I only download those from their official websites though. I do play some games, I've only downloaded games from Steam, Origin, and Utomik. I do have all of their clients on my PC. Other than that, there's been NOTHING I've dl. I only included that info because I thought it might help. Can someone PLEASE help with this. I tried to look at the registry, I'm not seeing anything that seems amiss but I need more specifics - I've read the other questions and answers on this - but I don't know HOW to change anything to see if it helps. I already am scared to death to touch the registry.

In an earlier version of FF, there was an explicit user setting for maximum cache size -- this was very helpful in constraining the bloat which regularly occurs with multiple tabs open for any extended period of time. At some point in the past few years, this setting disappeared from the up-front user option pages (but might still be around in some deeper, less-obvious setting as I have an older machine which still seems to honor its limit set long ago).
Since I routinely have to purge the webpage cache in order to regain responsiveness and function of FF when my regular tabs remain open for most of the day, I would like to see this setting return to the user-option front pages -- or know where it is located in some deeper option page.
More to the point, though, I would really like FF to constrain itself by design from bloating out on webpage cache -- reminds me too much of the 'memory leakage' problem which came to plague the Opera browser that I finally abandoned 10+ years ago for FF. I realize that many website developers these days are enamored with the bells, whistles and flashy graphics needed to gain eyeballs and earn something from clicks and click-throughs, but the present-day notion of some endless user supply of RAM grates quite hard with someone of my vintage and experience with computers since the late 1960s.

I have Firefox 70.0.1 and just recently it began to crash on opening and now will not display anything although as per the screenshot it shows 2 sessions open. The only way to close it is by Force quit. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox, rebooted between installs, all to no effect. Firefox was working OK up until a couple a days OK (as far as I am aware) and not sure what (if any) other 'updates' may have caused or contributed to this. I have tried to start Firefox in safe mode but no success with that either - no Firefox menu appears when trying to open Firefox. I have macOS Catalina 10.15.1.
