Hello, I recently purchased a SSD and I am using it. I was shocked to see that my SSD's TBW was 800GB in just 2 months whereas I never write any big files and then I realize that Firefox was eating my TBW and I have disabled some features in "about:config".

Those features are: browser.cache.disk.enable = false browser.cache.disk_cache_ssl = false browser.cache.memory.enable = true

But disabling those things did not helped me. I am trying to save my TBW. I want Firefox to never write anything in my SSD. I want to disable cache forever. I want Firefox to store all cache in Memory. I know it will take more internet bandwidth but no problem for me.

Can I tweak these settings in about:config?

browser.cache.disk.capacity = 0 or 1 (Not use if 0 means unlimited or disable in Firefox so I am using 1 and please tell me how what does 0 does) browser.cache.disk.content_type_media_limit = 0 or 1 (Not sure what this is) browser.cache.disk.enable = false browser.cache.disk.free_space_hard_limit = 0 or 1 browser.cache.disk.free_space_soft_limit = 0 or 1 browser.cache.disk.max_chunks_memory_usage = 0 or 1 browser.cache.disk.max_entry_size = 0 or 1 browser.cache.disk.max_priority_chunks_memory_usage = 0 or 1 (Not sure what this is) browser.cache.disk.metadata_memory_limit = 0 or 1 (Not sure what this is) browser.cache.disk.preload_chunk_count = 0 or 1 browser.cache.disk.smart_size.enabled = false browser.cache.disk_cache_ssl = false browser.cache.offline.capacity = 1 browser.cache.offline.enable = false browser.cache.offline.storage.enable = false

Can I create a new setting like browser.cache.disk.disable = true?

Long time listener, first time caller... :) [Seriously have been using and loving Firefox/Mozilla since 2004-2005, before that was Netscape Navigator, this is the first time I can recall having an issue that I can't find already written up and solved. Hence, this post.]

I've been having some odd issues with Firefox (85.0.2 64-bit) on my Intel Mac (Big Sur 11.2.1) for the past few months, and this morning decided to dig in deeper.

The backstory: When I’ve wanted to copy and image and paste it into Apple Messages, the images sometimes don’t send because Messages doesn’t support TIFF, WEBP, or PNG formats when sending to someone who doesn’t have an iMessage account (aka using standard MMS like to Android phones). So, I then have to convert the failed image to JPG, delete the failed message, and drag the saved JPG image file into Messages and can then resend it.

The issue: Today, I discovered that when I copy a JPG image from Firefox, and paste it into Apple messages, it seems that it doesn’t send because it appears to be either copied or pasted as a different format than the original image?

To reproduce:

  1. Go to a web site with a JPG image ( http://www.lunarbaboon.com for example)
  2. Right-Click on the JPEG image ( comicorder038.jpg for example) and select “View Image Info”
  3. Right-Click on the JPEG image and select “Copy Image”
  4. Paste into Messages to send to someone who doesn’t have an iMessage account
  5. Hit enter to send
  6. Wait a few seconds for failure
  7. Click on failure Info
  8. Right-Click on image and select Open
  9. Preview shows the file as TIFF not JPG

To simplify:

  1. Go to a web site with a JPG image ( http://www.lunarbaboon.com for example)
  2. Right-Click on the JPEG image ( comicorder038.jpg for example) and select “Copy Image”
  3. Open Preview and select “New from Clipboard”
  4. Select “Tools -> Show Inspector”
  5. Preview shows the file as PNG not JPG

What I’ve tried: Copy & paste of same image from Firefox - Safe Mode fails - So, doubt it is something in my Firefox config Copy & paste of same image from Safari works - So, doubt it is something MacOS related However, copy & paste of same image from Chrome fails too - So, maybe it is something MacOS related?

Any suggestions on what to try next?

I am running Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS. I wasn't having any issues with Firefox until it crashed unexpectedly and showed the Mozilla Crash Reporter. Now I can't launch Firefox and only receive the Crash Reporter. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox from the command line. If I attempt to uninstall Firefox from the Ubuntu Software GUI, I get an error that it can not be uninstalled because of unmet dependencies (although it doesn't list any missing dependencies). I have submitted a crash report with Crash ID: bp-fe22d740-064d-4990-a5ee-13c080210227.

Thank you for any help you may be able to offer.

I'm using a Surface Pro 7, running Win10H. Firefox had a brief period when I first installed it where the on screen keyboard would appear and work, that stopped after a few hours and has not worked since. I fiddled with the settings on both Firefox and my surface, though nothing has changed. Un/re-installing did not help, thought it could reset something. Any fixes or advice would be greatly appreciated.

For clarification, the Accessibility Menu on-screen keyboard does work, but the tablet-specific larger keyboard does not function. It does open and type in other applications.

Hi,

So anyone experience choppy/hsss and slow pc ..even the mouse going choppy when you have a few tabs open after a while?

My system is a:

Ryzen 7 3700x AMD x570 chipset 16GB ram RTX 2060 Samsung 970 Pro

And it's going turtle like with shuttering and all the goodies after 1-2 hours of beeing on, to have 5-6 tabs of youtube videos shows immidiately symptoms of this behavior(I have a video if you want some proof), I tried to find the cause, checked CPU/GPU/RAM/mobo/PSU/SSD ...everything

And then I open the same stuff with opera/chrome ...everything is smooth as butter, tried safe mode with firefox ...it's the same

Unless I restart my pc it's the same, tried 2x Re-install windows 10, nothing ...I thought my Sound Blaster Z was the issue, nop ...with the onboard(realtek) I get the very same behavior

So what's wrong with firefox? ..tried disable hardware acceleration, nop ...same behavior

Am I the only one having this kind of firefox behavior?

I'm having a similar problem to other posts I've seen here at support.mozilla.org, but not exactly the same, and none of the solutions are working for me.

I was using my Firefox ("FF") for Mac v77.0.1 with many tabs across 3 windows (as I've done for years). I Quit FF, shutdown Mac, and when I restarted Mac and FF, the windows and tabs did not reopen (as opposed to always reopening just fine, for years and years).

I looked under the History menu, and the missing windows and tabs did NOT list in the Recently Closed Tabs or Recently Closed Windows, BUT it DID list tabs and windows that I HAD recently closed.

I went ahead and selected Restore All Tabs and Restore All Windows, hoping that maybe it'd somehow open my last opened windows/tabs, but not only did that not happen, but it didn't even open the actually recently closed tabs/windows it had listed. Then, the History drop down menu just greyed out the Recently Closed Tabs and Recently Closed Windows options under History.

NOTE: It might be best to next skip down to MY Reply to this post (solution??), and then up to my Update/Edit (down below), before continuing right here to read my efforts to solve this!

Luckily, I had just backed up my Mac right before shutdown, so I grabbed the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file from most recent backup, Scrounged it at https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html, which produced an HTML that lists all the windows/tabs that I had open (including the Back-Forward History) before Quitting FF & Shutting Down Mac.

Then I followed these instructions I've seen many places: 1. quit FF 2. rename sessionstore.jsonlzr in my FF Profile to sessionstoreOLD.jsonlzr 3. copy sessionstore.jsonlzr (and next recovery.jsonlz, and next previous.jsonlzr) from my Mac backup 4. paste sessionstore.jsonlzr into the FF Profile on Mac (or paste recovery.jsonlzr or previous.jsonlzr, renaming them sessionstore.jsonlzr once pasted there) 5. open FF

Once I did those steps 1-5, it did NOT open any of my windows/tabs from previous session.

I even tried renaming my whole FF Profile from 2d7si5hi.default to 2d7si5hiOLD.default, and then copying the FF profile backup and pasting into Mac next to the old FF Profile. Once reopening FF, still no previous windows/tabs.

I even tried Trashing FF Profile 2d7si5hiOLD.default, before pasting in FF Profile from backup. Once reopening FF, still no previous windows/tabs.

I then did all the above with even older backups (from about 2 weeks ago). In THIS case, ONLY ONE of the 3 windows opens with lots of tabs (but not the other 2 windows of tabs).

I then updated my FF to v78.7.0esr, and went through ALLLLLL the above steps again, and the results were the same (unsuccessful).

I then tried creating a new FF profile, copying ALL contents from most recent FF profile backup and pasting into the new FF profile (per jscher2000's instructions - but without having done the Refresh FF - at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1136981) .... again, none of the previous windows/tabs showed up.

SO - anyone know how to get my FF to show all the windows/tabs that ARE present in my sessionstore.jsonlzr backups? Am I missing some step(s)??

By the way, in both FF v77.0.1 and v78.7.0esr, this glitchiness is also happening:

  • FF Preferences won't open
  • Help > Troubleshooting Information won't open (except for SOMEtimes if I already have a new Window open)

Thanks much!!

UPDATE/EDIT!: Whoa. Weird. I just happened to accidentally toggle to my Mac Dashboard (which I rarely use), and underplayed beneath the Dashboard Widgets were THE THREE MISSING FF WINDOWS OF TABS - which I could toggle between there at the Dashboard. I toggled back from Dashboard to Desktop, closed the FF that was open and NOT showing the windows/tabs, then toggled back to Dashboard, and the FF windows/tabs were no longer there. THEN, I reopened FF, again no windows/tabs, but then a toggle back to Dashboard - and boom, there they are! Say what?? OKAY - so FF is accessing/seeing the windows/tabs, just not displaying them within FF, but, instead, as standalone items behind Widgets on the Dashboard. Does this give anybody any insight on what's going on and how to fix it (way above my head!)?

Some tabs crash at random. Cannot reproduce at will. Started happening ever since I've upgraded to a Ryzen 3600 CPU. RAM with the XMP profile passes the entire 2 hour-long 4 -pass Memtest86 without errors.

The crashes happen on all versions of stable Firefox and on Firefox Developer's Edition. They also occur if there are <10 tabs open as well as 100 tabs open. I have 5-6 very common extensions on FF stable (Bitwarden, Gesturefy, uBlock Origin, Facebook Container, Open Tabs Next to Current, Wikiwand, and the Stream Detector), but not a single extension installed on FF DE and still it crashes too.

Some of many crash logs: bp-87b13e5c-1bc5-4f68-864b-95d6b0210227 bp-1751032b-df93-404e-822f-c13020210227 bp-e7840772-f24e-439b-b56b-ca8c50210227 bp-629bbf6d-b007-4b4a-8b76-b2d5e0210227 bp-dd9c0c07-61bf-44a4-b5a6-9f4170210227 bp-07cf5b11-39c5-4802-a448-7e6920210227 bp-97139c27-1633-4bab-a876-1bc030210227

These are all just from today, and these are not even all of today's crashes.

System details: AMD Ryzen 3600 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM (XMP profile 2) MBO MSI B450 Tomahawk (latest Beta Bios v7C02v1H3 - happened also with stable BIOS, so I put the latest BIOS on if there are possible BIOS<-->RAM problems but still crashes remain) Nvidia GTX 1070Ti (driver v461.72) Windows 10 Pro 20H2 v19042.804

Any idea what's causing this?

Hello,

I had a 300mpbs connection for download, but was never able to get past 200mbps. But now today, on installing a 1gig connection, I still cannot get past 200mbps. The installer blamed it on my PC's network card. But I just ran the same speed test with Microsoft Edge 64-bit, and I was able to get past 600mbps. So clearly, this problem is isolated to Firefox.

I am using the latest Firefox 32-bit. I have no addons installed. I am running Firefox on Windows 7.

After typing this post, I thought the 32-bit Firefox was probably causing the issue, so I installed the Firefox 64-bit, and the speed increased by 50mbps to 250mbps.

Thank you.

Long time Firefox user here - been on from the start (about 2005), and don't want to switch because I love some features like the Panorama View extension, Context Search extension etc, and it's always been a great browser.

Recently though (not sure if it's just recently, or I've only just noticed), it's so slow. I tried a brand new profile, no extensions, no settings changes, and it's the same. Example loading times:

bbc.co.uk/news Firefox: 14s Edge: 2s chess.com Firefox: 19s Edge: 4s chess.com play vs computer Firefox 38s Edge 2s

https://youtu.be/er9jBysL0vEFirefox vs Edge (YouTube)

So it's not my profile settings or extensions.

BUT, I tried it on a different user profile on the same computer (Switch User from the Windows Start menu), and it's fast!

Why is this, and what do I need to do on my user account to speed Firefox up (keeping my same Firefox profile)?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, since the last Firefox update I can hardly watch short videos or play games smoothly at Gameduell. It has always been jerky, but now it has become very, very bad. In addition, Firefox often hangs or crashes. What should I do? Thanks for your help. Greetings from Heide
