On another user's account, cannot go back to earlier FF version, profile files missing. Cannot start _any_ revision, old or current (using OSX Sierra on that user & different FF versions - the shared data you see her is NOT the same ) details here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1356226

I don't see the profiles.ini and installs.ini files within the Profiles folder. I see the general format from looking at good ones in my own Profile.

Don't understand why some are "locked."

How do I re-create them using the existing Profile names, and how do I denote which to startup using (the default folder?) Can't find any Help files to explain.

This is driving me mad, we are using the same physical computer because mine broke, so I start it up off an external drive containing my drive, then I have to shut down & restart on the internal drive to work on it, but then I don't have access to my saved files or to post on the forum.

Firefox can no longer play Netflix movies. Firefox loads the Netflix site. Firefox attempts to play the movie. Then, Firefox can't play the movie. Netflix says "Your browser is no longer supported." This happens every time there is a Firefox update! Do you guys not test your products in development before release? Please fix your product. I tried all your 'help' items.

Recently, I've been unable to view paid for video, for example on Netflix. I get the following error message:

The WidevineCdm Plugin has crashed. FATAL Clpp-Error [Category 6 - Code 6002]: {"browserError":""}

I'm using a macOS 10.95 and, says Firefox,:

"Note: The current version of Google Widevine is no longer compatible with older macOS versions such as OS X 10.9 and 10.10. Only macOS versions 10.11 and above are supported."

So my question, since it seems my mac is no longer compatible with Widevine, is whether there a way for me to watch video on Firefox? Perhaps with another plugin? Or no plugin? Perhaps this is an issue to take up with Widevine?

Thanks in advance.

It would seem that Mozilla has not yet created an official portable mode for Firefox(Seriously, after all these years?!?). It needs one in a bad way.

Now when I say portable mode what I mean is that the Firefox EXE runs from the folder it's in, using profiles that generated and exist in that same folder and NOT in the user profile. This functionality is needed not just for easy portability, but also for easy migrations from one system to another or one installation of OS to another.

While the portability mode should be exclusive to the platform FireFox is being used on(IE Windows vs Linux, etc), it should be seamless transition otherwise.

Before anyone chimes in and says this is not possible, please don't waste your time. Forks of FF have been doing so nearly effortlessly for more than a decade while maintaining perfectly functionally and security with the same usability.

So Devs, can you please make this happen? We the public would ever so grateful.

Additionally, can we get some fine grained controls over the appearance of UI elements?

This double spacing nonsense is irritating.

Then there is the Extension Icons labels. They've been gone for a while and they need to return, or at least an option to enable them if we wish.

Next we have the "Home page and new windows" option in settings. Those two options should not be combined. When I open a new instance of FF, I would like to open a blank page. I don't want any navigation happening until I click something or type in an address. I expect FF to sit and wait for my input. Then when I click the "Home" icon button does it go to my define home page.

Next problem we have is the auto update feature. This seems to have become an incredibly nasty feature and behavior. For example, I recently updated to Windows 11. After migrating my previous install of FF to it, it swiftly and without ANY warning or user prompt at all updated itself from 78.15.0esr to 91.3. This was NOT desired So how about to folks show respect to us users by ASKING if we want to upgrade! Had a prompt appeared I would have swiftly canceled. Updates should ALWAYS be at the choice and involvement of the user, not at your whim. I had to spend 40minutes manually backtracking and recopying, which was unpleasant.

Please note that while my above statements have had some negativity to them, I am a ardent supporter of Mozilla and will continue to be. These above points are that of increasing frustration. I am of the school of thought that we the users should have complete and fine-grain controls over every aspect of how our browser operates, whether it be UI elements or nitty-gritty functionality.

I look forward to responses by members of the dev team.

Thank You, Lex

Very similar to posts in previous years that are archived and largely unanswered or not up-to-date.

I opened up my a Firefox session to find out I was logged out of sync and when I logged back in all my passwords where erased.

This has been stable for the last 10 months and Firefox has provided a reliable password archive with nice syncing features. However, this is a deal breaker, since I cannot loose the login credentials randomly.

No updates. No conscious logging out. No disregarding warnings etc.

Anyway to revert or retrieve?

Is there anyway to set my own zoom levels, like we used to be able to, you know, like 10 years ago?

I used to have my own zoom levels that went up 10% all the way to 300%, then started 25% intervals.

For example, my levels from 100% to 200% looked like this: 100%, 110%, 120%, 130%, 140%, 150%, 160%, 170%, 180%, 190%, 200%.

So, is there any way to do this now?

I'd like to add search engines to my list, without having to find addons or extensions. This used to be possible in older version of firefox by editing one of the .json/.xml files but now doesn't seem to be the case.

If this isn't possible, is there a way to modify the firefox source to allow this? I hate to say it, but it's this sort of feature removal/deprecation that is slowly turning me away from firefox. It'd be really nice to have it back.

I'm trying to develop a simple addon using the Sessions API, so I wanted to play around a bit with the JS in the Browser Toolbox first. I have set devtools.chrome.enabled to true and pressed Ctrl+Shift+J to open the browser console. I'm able to run some JS (example: console.log("Hello world!") works as expected), but when I try to run something like sessions.getRecentlyClosed(), I get the following error message:

Uncaught ReferenceError: sessions is not defined
    <anonymous> debugger eval code:1

    evalWithDebugger resource://devtools/server/actors/webconsole/eval-with-debugger.js:167

    evaluateJSAsync resource://devtools/server/actors/webconsole.js:1011
    makeInfallible resource://devtools/shared/ThreadSafeDevToolsUtils.js:103

I tried browser.sessions.getRecentlyClosed() with the same error message about "browser.sessions" not being defined. Anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it, or how to correctly import the Sessions API if that's what's needed?

Thanks!

I would like to search the bugzilla database for known issues.

While there is a builtin search tool, that does not work: if I search for a string and limit the search to one specific bug where I know it contains the string, then that bug is reported. Doing the same search over all bugs, it (takes long and then) reports that no bug at all contains the string - not even the one where I know it contains the string.

So this search tool is proven defective and cannot be used. What alternatives are there?

I am testing FF91esr for deployment later this year. Having a lot of grief with it.

For context; On most of our PCs the profile folder is NOT in the %APPDATA% folder. It lives on a different drive, typically drive F:\

This allows us a lot of freedom to restore a users C:\ drive without messing up the Firefox profile, or losing recent information, for example. We do the same for Thunderbird and several other applications.

The profile.ini file does live in its default location and points to the relavant folder path=F:\Users\<username>\profiles\<profilename> IsRelative=0

We backup a users PC with a comprehensive script which copies the profile.ini and Profiles folder. The group policy is also backed up, and in that policy we have set to use legacy profiles.

When we build a new PC for a user we restore those backups in the hope that the user will take up where they left off. For example, their browser history will be at the point is was when they left the PC.

The whole process is pretty automated. However, with FF91esr I cannot get it to use the folder we backed up. It ignores what's in the profiles.ini file and creates a new profile in the default location, set's it as default and of course sets IsRelative=1.

I tried several combinations of things to try to stop this, but in the end the ONLY way I could get it to use the restored profile was to go to about:profiles, create a new profile, point it to the folder where the restored profile is located, restart using the new browser, then via about:profiles, delete the bogus profile (of course having set the restored profile as default).

I'm not going to sit at 250 PCs doing that. It's crazy.

How can I get FF to use the restored profile folder and stop it endlessly creating new profile folders?

So far I've only tested with clean installs of FF91esr, so this is not an issue with different versions of profiles. But I am concerned over what's going to happen when I update Firefox on a PC...

Hi Guys,

I've just moved house and got a new internet provider, so this could be many things.
When I go to the amazon home page everything is fine, images are shown.
When I do a search within amazon and get the search results, no thumb images are shown.
I've cleared the cache and history, quit and restarted firefox and also restarted my mac, but nothing so far has fixed this.
Being that I've just moved house and gone with a new internet provider may not help as the speeds can be slow for a couple of weeks.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
Dizzwold.

Good Afternoon,

On several sites I work on with form fields, there is an option to save the existing text then return and edit the message. Now when the edit button is pressed, the fields are empty. I have workarounds to do everything in one shot using a text editor, but it's not convenient and something I do regularly.

It started with an update in the past year, but worked previously. This is on an Ubuntu system running Firefox 89 (64 bit).

The settings are the default, with no additional add-ons at the moment.

Hi

I recently downloaded Firefox from the main download page https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ The actual download link was: https://cdn.stubdownloader.services.mozilla.com/builds/firefox-stub/en-US/win/aeb02dfeae750c7fa2abe9c7bc07b48193110ac61e2169456253638270735d21/Firefox%20Installer.exe

I normally check my downloads using https://virusscan.jotti.org or https://virustotal.com before I run them with admin privileges. Anyway when I uploaded to http://www.virustotal.com the first thing I noticed was that it had never seen the hash before! (SHA1 hash is 3a974b7394597de41230f7517c293e4b6386eeab.) Once it was uploaded, it was promptly detected by the Cylance antivirus engine.

Can somebody please get in touch with Cylance? I suppose I could contact them myself; however, I prefer not to report it as a "false positive" on the off-chance that particular download actually is corrupted or I got a man in the middle- after all, it's surprising that VirusTotal has never seen this hash before.
