Since windows 10 updated on 5/6/17 to include the creator tools, Firefox has been opening a new tab containing advertisements for addons. Nothing else, just addons. It happens roughly 75% of the time that I interact with anything on a web page. I've tried using firefox safe mode and it is still continuing. My windows defender did not detect any viruses on its quick scan, though I am in progress of running a full scan. If this comes up negative, what else can I do? This is getting really irritating and concerning. Its like the popup blocker is no longer catching all of them. and there are way more than there should be. It doesn't matter where I go, this happens. It actually happened when I clicked in this text box.

Hi there,

Certain icons are displaying as hex codes on my Mac. I've made sure that my advanced content settings allow pages to choose their own fonts. I've likewise made sure that gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled in about:config is marked true.

I've restarted Firefox in Safe Mode and the problem persists.

I've read some information about inspecting the element, but I don't know what to look for. In opening the Web Console, I get this message in the inspector sheet: "Signal: error: {"type":"script","message":"Problem loading http://platform.twitter.com/oct.js","tagId":1491995}" tag.js:2:286 Signal: error: {"type":"wait","message":"ReferenceError: twttr is not defined","tagId":1491995} tag.js:2:286

I also see a message saying "Style sheet could not be loaded."

Any suggestions for me, team?

Thanks so much!

I download a file and it shows in the download list and leaves an icon on my desktop. When I double (or single) click on the icon or on the name in the list it downloads again instead of opening. Doesn't open or bring up anything to Save or choose what to open with. I end up with a lot of the same file on the list and a lot of icons on my desktop. I can go to another browser other than Firefox and it will open with no problem. Has worked correctly in the past. Windows 7 Firefox 53.0.2 auto updates

Is there any plan to fix FireFox "memory leaks" and other problems so retailer web sites will begin to resume tuning for FireFox.

One major retailer's site is no longer accessible using FireFox - the recommended solution, by this retailer (as well as others) is to switch to IE/Edge or Chrome.

The comment made by the developer I spoke to was "FireFox is no longer an industry leader" due to the many problems with recent releases.

If anyone has any insight into this, I would love to read it. Thanks.

I had a similar question going before the thread was removed. This new Firefox takes away an add-on I desperately need again. I'd not not to say its name for fear my question may be taken down again, but, it rhymes with Multi-Socks.

Is there anyway to change containers without opening a new tab? I have 3 eBay accounts I was able to stay logged in and switch through within the same tab with the now defunct extension.

Now, I can't figure out how to accomplish this.

OR, is there a way for me to set up tabs to open in different containers on opening Firefox?

Please help!

My message above occurs whenever I try to access Carfax or even carfax.com, but it is the only site that does this. All browsers including chrome and explorer do this. I generally exclusively use Firefox for everything and the generic help on the web all claim removing cookies will do it. I remove cookies each time after logged out, and clear history as my method option, and I even recently removed all manually and my attempts still display this sorry message:

Firefox (32-bit) constantly crashes since updating to v53, I've tried to disable most of my extensions but with no luck, and updating to v53.0.2 didn't solved the problem. It can work some time but when I refresh or load new page, it sticks for some seconds and then shows crash report form, and I see it ten times per a day.

Problem is that these crashes only happen on internal resources (e.g. our local TeamCity server) from offline Firefox profile, so I can't just send bug report using crash report form. I've copied report files from pending folder of my offline profile to the same folder of online profile but I still can't submit it because clicking on report at about:crashes page opens About Throttling page. How can I force submission of this report?

When I try to set Firefox as my default browser in Windows 8, the options menu goes to the Set Associations menu and won't set it as the default browser. In the instructions on your website for the alternate way to set it it only gives directions for Windows 7, Vista and XP not Windows 8. This is most annoying. I have tried reinstalling Firefox but that didn't work.

I have a folder with bookmarks that I've placed on my Bookmarks Toolbar. Unfortunately this folder frequently disappears. I've noticed it when resizing my Firefox window, when entering and exiting customization, and several other normal usage scenarios. The weird thing is, if I go to the Bookmarks Icon - Bookmarks Toolbar - my folder is still there. Firefox seems to still have a place-holder for it when it disappears, but there is nothing to click. If I close and reopen Firefox, the folder will reappear until I encounter one the scenarios above.

I am a bit compulsive about my bookmarks being alphabetically sorted. I keep them that way. It is unbelievably annoying that every time Firefox syncs my devices they get de-sorted. What is up with that? I have turned off sync on both computers, sorted the list, and turned sync back on for each computer and it IMMEDIATELY removes the sorting and leaves the list in order to the date entered.

A couple of days ago, my primary Firefox profile suddenly lost its ability to download files from a link. I can still do so from my other Firefox profiles, as well as other browsers (Edge, Opera, Chrome).

If I start this profile in 'safe mode', download function is restored.

Things I have tried with no success:

  • disabling add-ons manually
  • updating to FF 32.0
  • clearing download history
  • changing download folder to default
  • deleting mimeTypes.rdf

This is a Windows 10 machine.

Thankss

If I leave my computer for longer than 10 minutes, instead of going to sleep (as it should) Firefox shuts down and the whole computer shuts down with it. Then, 15 minutes later, it will start the whole computer on its own! From another room, I can hear the distinctive F# Major chord that indicates "start up" in all Apple computers, When I return to my computer - say 3 hours later - I click the return key. Instead of waking up the computer (as it should), I hear the distinctive chord of Apple indicating "start-up" and the whole computer comes to life and access to Firefox is only through a box on the screen that says "Firefox has shut down. We're so sorry. Click on the box below to start your Firefox again" - or something to that effect. So that's what I do in order to get to work again. Why is it doing this? Grateful for your kind attention.

So to first start off, I've tried disabling the multiprossesing thing mentioned by semi-related questions to this one and it did not fix the issue. I would also like to point out that I've tried running Firefox with all addons disabled and creating a brand new profile. None of these fix the issue. Essentially, any time a link is clicked outside of Firefox and causes Firefox to open it, it creates a new process in task manager. This process's memory never shifts, changes, or moves according to Resource Manager. You can even end this new process immediately and nothing happens to Firefox. You can close Firefox and these processes do not die. Ending one of these dead processes does not end them all, even with "End process tree" being used to end it. They stack and add up fast. Here's a screen shot of me purposefully clicking the same external link 5 times. External links are the only thing that cause this as far as I can tell.

I have done ALL of the troubleshooting and have my settings at appropriate settings. Firefox is still using way too much RAM and memory. I only have TWO tabs open and it is over 2000 mbs!! Please help me with this. I have run everything possible including safe mode, not running any addons or extension, etc etc. I have tried ALL of the troubleshooting you recommend AND have had my own tech support run through some things. Nothing wrong with my pc. Her suggestion was to switch to another browser. I really like FF, but this has been going on for the past few weeks, actually, since the last update. Despite one of your troubleshooting suggestions is to make sure FF is up to date. That is when this problem started!

I'm a solo singer songwriter and I create HTML files of my lyrics and embed mp3 backing tracks to use in my stage performances. Everything worked fine until a Firefox update. Now the HTML files open but there is no sound. I don't know any 'work around' for this problem, but need to solve this problem urgently. I read somewhere on here about HTML5 files but I cannot go through every lyrics page to convert it, or even if I can convert them. I use Coffeecup HTML editor to embed the mp3 files and Microsoft Office Word to create the HTML files. Any assistance in this urgent matter is greatly appreciated and I thank anyone in advance if you can help

I saw a bar saying that since Firefox senses it's running slow, i should do a "Restore" to speed it up. It did make a file on my desktop... but now my Firefox is this blank slate of NOTHINGNESS! Not even much more than a search bar that does nothing. Not even a logo. All my YEARS of bookmarks are GONE. All 1000+ tabs i had opened over time is GONE. Oddly, it seems websites i now have to type in manually (as Firefox forgot that history too) don't make me use passwords to sign in? What do i do? The tutorial is confusing and I'm sitting here with everything I've ever seen and done on Firefox 100% LOST. Just LOOK at the non-functional void clicking Firefox brings up now. Even typing something in the bar and hitting search goes NOWHERE. Actually, i was going to attach an image, but THAT'S just stuck forever as a spinning load circle.
