When I open Firefox in a new tab, I would like to have it open to a page of my choice. Right now, it seems there is no way to change that, but previous versions had this feature, and I put my computer to "google.com" for example, so I could be ready to search, whenever I pressed "command-T" (for new tab.) Are we stuck on Yahoo, now, or whatever Firefox chooses for new tabs, or is there a way to change this?

Whenever I get on YouTube on Firefox or Google Chrome, the videos won't play. They just sit on the beginning of the video and block the way of the play button. I also can't play my music on the desktop, I can't open my steam when this happens and if I did and tried to open my steam music player it doesn't play either. apparently nothing can be played on my computer. Is there any fix to this? I've been searching for the answers and I couldn't find one. This has been happening for the past 2 weeks.

Firefox version 48 (OS X) disabled an add-on of mine that I am developing after Firefox updated. The add-on is unverified. After removing the add-on I am now unable to reinstall it despite xpinstall.signatures.required being set to false in about::config (I've toggled this on and off whilst restarting Firefox).

Although I am not interested in getting Mozilla to verify my personal add-on, now I'm hypothetically unable to work on my add-on to make it verified.

I would first like to thank everyone for previous help/support. I am a 68 year old dedicated Firefox user dismayed by this continued issue with You Tube. When I select a video to watch I first get a flashed message saying “Your browser does not currently recognise any of the video formats available, click here to visit our frequently asked questions about HTML5 video”. Normally the flash is so fast it is impossible to read but this time a third party website held it in place of the captioned video so I captured the screen. Clicking as requested does not offer any direct solution and as an every day user I am confused by what happens next. The video begins as per normal when I go to full screen the colours are saturated and the resolution below normal. The video can run for an unlimited time, before it freezes after a random time duration and will not start again or play any other video. To illustrate this as a Firefox issue is easily sampled by comparing the same use of You Tube on 'Chrome'. None of these events take place on Chrome and the Chrome browser video is fine. I am just an ordinary user, can you advise please? Thanks Tom Leigh

Yahoo suddenly the default search engine after downloading something stupid I can't even remember anymore and can't find. Removed Yahoo in Firefox Preferences, trashed the application (Yahoo Powered Search), and STILL it comes up as the default. Firefox 48.0.2/ Mac OS10.8.5. Changing search engine in Preferences didn't work. Removing it entirely hasn't worked. Trashing it and emptying trash hasn't worked. Restarting Firefox and also restarting the computer after making the changes hasn't worked. Is there anything a non-geek can do that works?

I noticed this very intrusive trend recently: First, I have one tab open, and on certain sites when I click on a link (or anywhere on the page, ie. input fields or just the middle of nowhere) it opens the link (or the same page) in new tab, and the previous tab where I was originally loads some ads or other unwanted stuff. (I never checked it thoroughly) Sometimes this goes on 2 or 3 times in a row before I get to my intended destination, leaving me with 2-3 tabs on the left, that do who knows what in the background. Is there any way to get rid of this problem? Thanks in advance for any solutions!

Every web page with video / audio content begins to autoplay (at the vid's highest volume) approximately 5 seconds after opening the page. I could disable this in Safari and Chromium, but see no option to disable the 'Autoplay' feature in Firefox. Worse, there are no plug-ins or extensions available that will allow this to be done. If you have had success disabling this annoying 'feature' (it's not a 'bug,' right?), please advise how it was done so that I may rid myself of these annoying vids. Thanks in advance.

I have set Firefox v48.0 to not record history in order to effectively achieve private browsing and thus enhance privacy. The only thing that now appears in History is a "moz-extension" in the following format: moz-extension://f111111b1-1111-1fae-1111-ef11111d11be/background.html. I've replaced each of the figures by a "1" so as to simply illustrate the structure. I don't know and have not been able to find out just what the moz-extension is and what purpose it serves here. Thanks heaps.

I am trying to display streaming content from 4 webcams within my local network. This works properly on my Linux Mint box with Firefox 48.0, but does not work on My macbook running OSX El Capitan 10.11.5 on Firefox 50.1.0. Also same problem on my IMac.

The html code is like this...

<object type="application/x-vlc-plugin" data="rtsp://LWK-????:????????@192.168.1.xx:554/img/video.sav" width="500" height="375" id="video1"> <param name="movie" value="rtsp://192.168.1.0/archive/xxxxxxxxxxx"/> <embed type="application/x-vlc-plugin" name="video1" autoplay="no" loop="no" width="500" height="375" target="rtsp://LWK-????:????????@192.168.1.???:554/img/video.sav" />

I downloaded Flip4mac, as was advised on a post I found on stackoveflow, but that made no difference.

How do I know which plugin is needed? Searching on extensions, I see nothing for x-vlc-plugin. Is extension same as plugin? What do I download if not Flip4mac?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, Joe

Mozilla's web site says this: Firefox 48.0 System Requirements for Mac Operating Systems • Mac OS X 10.9 • Mac OS X 10.10 • Mac OS X 10.11

But also says this:

The Firefox version 48 release in August 2016 will be the last Firefox version to receive new feature or security updates on OS X systems that are no longer supported by Apple: OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8. Starting with the Firefox version 49 release in September 2016, Firefox is no longer supported on OS X systems below 10.9.

So is Firefox 48 supposed to work on my OS X 10.7 or not? (I ask this because of a web site that works with Safari but not with Firefox 48.) Should I regress to version 47? Should I regress to ESR 45? If so, what happened to 46 and 47?

Hi, Since yesterday (August 19, 2016) Netflix stop working and I get a message at the top of the page saying "Firefox is installing components needed to play audio or video, please try again later". I just called Netflix support and they say that recently they stop using Silverlight and moved to HTML5, they advised me to update Firefox to the latest version, I was running on 47.0.1 but now after installing the update I'm running on 48.0.1 but still get the same error message. I can watch Netflix with Internet Explorer but not with Firefox anymore! For years was working fine I am wondering what's going on, can you help?

Hi, since enabling HTTP2 on our server I'm getting the following error message when opening the http address, which 301 redirects to https :

Your connection is not secure

The website tried to negotiate an inadequate level of security.

biobanking.org uses security technology that is outdated and vulnerable to attack. An attacker could easily reveal information which you thought to be safe. The website administrator will need to fix the server first before you can visit the site.

Error code: NS_ERROR_NET_INADEQUATE_SECURITY

Server: Apache/2.4.23 (Win64) OpenSSL/1.0.2h PHP/7.0.8

SSL Config: SSLCipherSuite HIGH:MEDIUM:!MD5:!RC4 SSLProxyCipherSuite HIGH:MEDIUM:!MD5:!RC4 SSLHonorCipherOrder on SSLProtocol all -SSLv3 SSLProxyProtocol all -SSLv3 SSLPassPhraseDialog builtin SSLSessionCacheTimeout 300

In VirtualHost config: - Protocols h2 http/1.1

When I refresh the https address it shows me the same message once, after the next refresh the site is showing up correctly.

Hope you can look into it
