I've recently been getting a notice that I need to upgrade my Browser. However when I go to Help , About Firefox in my menu. The pop up indicates I have the latest version of Firefox.

I was wondering if this is perhaps a virus, or a scam someone has tried to pull.

The URL for the update is:

http://www.updating-your-browser.com/Firefox/

and to further incriminate the site The fine print reads

I thought that all expired cookies should be deleted automatically by the browser. but that is not the way it happens in my Firefox (same behaviour for different web-sites).

closing Firefox and even reboot of the computer don't help. the only way to remove expired cookies from Firefox is: by hand (which means I have to choose cookie in Privacy Tab of Firefox Options and press button 'Delete cookie').

well, the good news: expired cookies are ignored by the servers (tested with user script through my virtual server) but for unknown reason still continue to be stored idle in Firefox.

Is that the way it should work?

Running Firefox 26, the recently closed tabs/windows and session restore menu items are greyed out and never activate, I cant even use the shortcut (ctrl+shift+t)

Also, i noticed the firefox homepage search has now stopped functioning, clicking on search just does nothing and even those little mozilla ads that would show under the search bar have disappeared

I thought it was a profile/malicious add-on issue so i did a reset, that didn't work, then i uninstalled, removed personal customizations in the uninstall and did a fresh install of firefox, still the same issues...

Scanned my computer with a deep system scan using up-to-date bitdefender 2013, no viruses

i did not install any of my previous add-ons (adobe's pdf creator was automatically there on reinstall but started disabled) and the sessionstore values in about:config are default and correct

Please help!!

I have also restarted Firefox per the group's instructions, reinstalled the malware stoppers and the popup blockers. I still get popups on the left & right side of my screen, cute little ads that popup in the photos that I looking at and a persistent ad that keeps showing up at the top of a given page without any means of deleting or erasing it. The "cute" little ads come with an "x" to close them. Every other popup does not. I'm getting carpal tunnel syndrome from closing popups. Also frustrated. Please help. I use Fire Fox 22.

I have an HTML5 page I have created for my own offline use that has around 60 instances of HTML5 video tags and this crashes FireFox ( I have sent the report details on..unfortunately it is not possible to copy & paste them from the report box as this doesn't allow for copy/paste). I also disabled hardware acceleration in the tools options but this has not helped.

Here is an example of the html5 video code I've used:

 <video id="sampleMovie" width="640" height="360" preload controls>
<source type="video/mp4;" src="file:///C:/..../1008-and-finally.mp4"></source>
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://releases.flowplayer.org/swf/flowplayer-3.2.1.swf" width="640" height="360">
		<param name="movie" value="http://releases.flowplayer.org/swf/flowplayer-3.2.1.swf" />
		<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" />
		<param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
		<param name="flashvars" value='config={"clip":{"url":"HTML5Sample_flv.flv","autoPlay":false,"autoBuffering":true}}' />
	</object>
</video>

BTW the page works just fine in Chrome browser (I've not tried it in IE).

If possible I would like to have this working in FireFox, so I'm most grateful for helpful replies, best wishes :-)

A few days ago firefox started closing on its own without any pop-up or anything. At first I thought my flash wasn't up to snuff but firefox said that I had the latest version. Then I checked my add-ons and noticed a weird add-on called EixxstraSavvINgs 4.2. Everytime I close and start firefox that add-on keeps coming back even if I uninstall it/remove it from the add-on tab. Same thing with chrome. Has anyone ever encountered something like this before? If so any help would be appreciated

Hello I have seen a handful of things change in the last week or so using Firefox. I looked in my extensions and have two that look like something malicious. and more strange is running a search on its name on Google, reveals NOTHING online anywhere? does anyone know why this would be?

I also seem to have attached to my browser, some sort of ad ware garbage. "You may be seeing ads as part of our advertising solution for Internet properties (such as websites or web browser extensions). This solution provides content at no cost to you and displays advertisements during your web browsing experience. It was installed by you, or someone using your computer. You currently have the following software installed: safesaver extension

it gives instructions on how to remove safesaver from my programs but its not there. Google is redirecting and giving jaded inaccurate paid ads that are irrelevant.

Most perplexed in the extensions. CouppExxtension 1.3 GareaTSuave 4u 2.3

and why I see nothing on them. I removed the bad extensions and the browsing seems better... I lost a cool little toolbar along the top with options to diplays html, and displays your saved passwords...I forgot what it was but would love it back. any ideas would be great Thanks T

Within the last few weeks my mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the extreme top (left side) of the FF browser window. Only happens in FF, not Chrome or IE or any other MS application. Reloaded fresh up-to-date mouse drivers, switched mouses, switched USB ports, switched to a non MS mouse - all to no avail.

It seems to happen more often when I have the mouse's 'snap to" feature enabled that automatically moves the pointer to the default button in the dialog box.

This along with FF's unique inability to hide the pointer when typing (when set in the mouses's Properties box) have become very annoying.

Please address and fix both of the above problems. Thanks.

Since a while back, the four choices in the restore section (Tabs from Other Devices, Restore Previous Session, Recently Closed Tabs and Recently Closed Windows) have been greyed out. The keyboard shortcuts don't work, and nor does Undo Closed Tab in the tab context menu.

I have found and tried various fixes for this, including:

  • Starting Firefox in Safe Mode without addons.
  • Resetting Firefox.
  • Changing the values of browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo and browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo in about:config.
  • Checking to see if I have a user.js in the Firefox profile. (I don't.)
  • Checking that Private Browsing isn't the default mode. (It isn't.)
  • Creating a new profile to see if it had the same issue. (It did.)
  • Running anti-malware scans. (BitDefender and SpyBot.)
  • Disabling my anti-virus and anti-malware temporarily.

None of these solve my problems.

Tabs from Other Devices is greyed out, but I have never used it, and it might have been greyed out previously.

History works in general. Sites I visit are added to the log.

Preferences are properly saved when I change them.

Any advice on how to fix the problem would be much appreciated, as I am very fond of these features and used them often until they stopped working.

ADDENDUM

After looking through the Modified Preferences list created by the Troubleshooter, I have now also tried resetting the following:

  • browser.places.smartBookmarksVersion
  • browser.newtabpage.storageVersion
  • browser.cache.disk.capacity
  • browser.cache.disk.smart_size.first_run
  • browser.cache.disk.smart_size.use_old_max
  • browser.cache.disk.smart_size_cached_value

The problem persists.

I have downloaded and installed CacheViewer 0.7.6. It is visible in my Add-Ons Manager, but I don't know how to actually use it to view objects cached by Firefox. I finally figured out how to use the about:cache function and I think the above add-on will be helpful once I know how to use.
