I live in a remote and rural location. Dial-up internet is the only option. Broadband is not available.

The large Version 44.0 update file download will not remain on-line because of rural dial-up limitations.

I've tried a good quality Download Manager software. But the Firefox Update Version 44.0 webpage will not allow the RESUME command needed for a large file download using dial-up internet.

I cannot upgrade to Broadband. I cannot download the Version 44.0 file---it produces a corrupted file--or webpage refuses RESUME command.

A creative workaround from an open-minded Firefox savvy individual is requested.

Thank you in advance :)

I use Firefox 12 because new versions won't work with my operating system. Over time, I find more and more sites are either unavailable or cause the computer to crash. I have assumed that it's a compatibility problem and not a problem with my computer, so nothing can be done except to avoid those sites. Am I correct?

the question says it: In searching for safe downloads I have to click on many, then search elsewhere whether there is info on whether they are safe or not.

In Internet Explorer, the site link would always change color after I had visited there. That was great. But with my newly-installed Firefox Version 12, on my re-built XP, it does not. This has caused me to mistakenly visit some of the same sites several times. That is bad news as I find myself starting to download from one only to discover I already did, and have to go to uninstall programs (from Control Panel) to undo it.

Is there any way to make this browser tell me what sites I have already visited??

Thanks, Tom

One particular web site won't load, and I was previously able to view the site roughly 2 weeks ago. It's a free WordPress site/blog.

I keep getting the error message "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." I've tried deleting all cookies and emptying the cache with no success. I also tried a "DNS Flusher" with the same result.

I've followed all the recommendations on the Firefox Help link and checked the Community and FAQ sections with no luck.

I can view the page in Safari. The web site owner can view the web site using a setup similar to mine (Mac OS 10.5, Firefox 12.0).

Nothing I know have has changed since I was able to view the site 2 weeks ago i.e., I'm not going through a proxy server nor do I have any secondary security or anti-virus programs running.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ask.com gives these directions:

"First make sure you don't have the Ask Toolbar installed, as it may cause the homepage to revert to Ask. You can find this toolbar in your Firefox Extensions. In the upper right corner of your Firefox windows there should be an icon with three horizontal lines stacked up. Click those three lines, then from the menu that appears, click Add-ons. Once you have the Add-ons screen up, click Extensions on the left hand side. Then look through your extensions for the Ask Toolbar and remove it. You may still need to change your homepage once you have removed those programs, which you can do by following the instructions below."

But I can't get to a Firefox window from ask.com.

I can access the same site from other computers using FireFox in the same local network. But on this PC FireFox claims that the certificate issuer is untrusted (sec_error_untrusted_issuer) and does NOT give me the option to decide myself. Frankly I'm freaking out by this incredible decision to take control away from the user. A warning is nice and appreciated, but I should ALWAYS have the right to take the risk. Actually I knew what I was doing and I was in a hurry and it was important to get access. I HATE Firefox for this :-(.

I short ... I want to see the warning but I want to be able to access anyway.

I already deleted cert8.db while restarting FF ... didn't solve the problem. I believe my mail operator is INDEED sending the wrong certificate, but I don't care. I want access. Man in the middle ... OK, I usually don't use the webmailer, but I want to be able, damnit.
