Since I find the new Proton GUI a step backwards in usability, I plan to defer the inevitable as long as possible by moving to the ESR version (currently V78).

  1. How long are ESR versions supported?
  2. What is the ESR version release cycle?
  3. I plan to try using the -allow-downgrade command line option when downgrading, but the articles "Install an older version of Firefox" and "Command line options" are a bit short on step-by-step instruction. What is the correct procedure / sequence?
  4. I have serious misgivings that the result will be usable, given the large difference in version numbers. I have made a backup of my profile. Should I have problems with the downgraded profile, I will presumably have to create a new profile. How can I recover data from the backup profile and import it into the new profile?
  5. I am using Firefox Sync and hope that it will relieve me of some of the pain associated with a new profile. I am not syncing History however, because I prefer to keep the histories of my separate Firefox installations on different devices separate. Is there another way to preserve the history from a particular installation?
  6. If not, what can I expect from sequentially turning on history sync on my various Firefox installations?
  7. Will all history be merged or will subsequent history lists overwrite earlier ones?

Any further advice which might prevent me from screwing this up would be most welcome!

The 89.0 (64-bit) update to Firefox is a joke! When are fixes coming or is there any way for me to return to the previous edition. I cannot get used to this charade.

I think that Firefox is by far the most superior browser and this update is just so not Firefox. It hurts. It hurts really bad!

Got an update to89.0 four days ago, that totally screwed up my userChrome.css file -- which I now fixed (Again, thank you to all that help with posting this updated file to get tabs on the bottom for us non-techies) but I am now getting notices to update to 90.0 Beta 5. This is new, as far as I know, and I certainly don't want to try Beta versions, if anything I'd like less updates to avoid the userChrome incidents ... Is there a way to get out of this Beta update cycle, and back to whatever "normal" update requests are? Thanks!

Honestly, I came home last night and clicked on the LinkedIn open tab to discover I had to log in. I have never had to do that. I never logged out. My log in and password were not offered or suggested. Then I discovered other tabs that had logged me out. Then I discovered I passwords had disappeared. I do not know what happened. I didn't update anything. I have spent hours trying to fix this. I followed one route to create a new profile and now I have lost the 73 tabs open over 3 windows for my businesses. Damn! I am fuming! And with no phone support this is the end of working with Mozilla. Can someone please help me? I'd like to wind back to yesterday morning!! Profiles, everything! I managed to find my bookmarks, but I have lost time and lost business. Help! Please!

Whenever I used to download pdf files there would automatically be a number added in paranthesis. Example- test.pdf (1) and the next one I would download would show up test.pdf (2). Made sepearting all of my files very easy. Now, however, every download is just "test.pdf." No number automatically added. How can I go back to how it used to work?

Dear Firefox community, I do not know why you are not solving your browser-short time memory loss problem! When I download a video / file, the internet is disconnected in the middle, and it takes a while to connect, then the download starts again from 0%! It wastes both my time and the internet. If the power connection is disconnected while downloading again - I don't get any backup of that file when I connect to the internet after the power connection is restored ...! However, other browsers have this advantage. I like Firefox a lot, but this short time memory loss system bothers me a lot. I hope to fix this issue in the next update. Help! Today, I updated from v. 88.x to the latest v. 89.x of Firefox for Mac OS. Unfortunately, the new look and interface of v. 89 is very difficult for me to see and use. The menu bar items (text and icons) are too small, and everything is too small, too light and low-contrast gray with no borders ,etc. I've been using Firefox for Mac OS for at least 15 years, and I've never been so dissatisfied by the look of an upgrade. I am running on a Mac Pro with OS X 10.14.6.

Having played with the various preference menus in v. 89.x that I could find, I am not able to find settings to return the look to that of the previous version. Is there a "theme" to make the interface user-friendly again, or do I need to actually revert to v. 88.x? If I need to go back to v. 88.x, how do I do that and preserve all of my original settings, bookmark, etc.? Thank you!
