Hello,

I need your help: how can I set navigation bar without any item (hide all items of this bar)? I need that this bar appears but empty. The reason is that I want to restrict options in Firefox (for all users) but let it be allowed open windows pop-up.

I got remove the menu button that is to the right of the whole (hamburger type), the forward and backward buttons that are to the left of the whole (which are the arrows to the right and to the left), the detention (which is the cross), etc. I did this with commands in userChrome.css file

But what I can't hide is the item where the url's are placed (search box). I just need to hide the search box. I wrote " #nav-bar { visibility: collapse !important ; } " in userChrome.css , and then all navigation bar is hidden but don't get windows of pop-up that I need them to appear.

The version of Firefox that I have is 108.0.1 (64 bits).

Could you help me, please? It's a little urgent. Thanks!!

Some sites offer separate links for viewing and downloading. (I'm specifically interested in PDF files, but I think this question is more general.) I'm not sure how this distinction is communicated to Firefox—I'm guessing in the MIME type? But regardless of the mechanism, Firefox does not seem to offer any obvious settings that distinguish between the two cases. Are there ways to distinguish in less obvious places, such as about:config?

As a specific example: currently on a certain site when I click "View" the PDF is displayed in Firefox, and when I click "Download" the PDF is both placed in my Downloads folder and displayed in Firefox. I would prefer that the "Download" link only cause the download, and not cause the display. How can I change this without breaking the "View" links?

Greetings!

If this is actually a thing, I would like to know how to make it happen. If it is not a thing, this a suggestion that would be amazing to implement into the web-browser!

On my phone, when you scroll, it automatically hides the address bar and everything on it, to go 'full-screen'. I want this on my laptop. How can I make it, that when I scroll, or even just sit on a webpage for a moment, the URL bar will smoothly transition into being 'hidden'?

I want to be clear: I do NOT want to use the fullscreen, CTRL + F11 function, because then my Windows task bar is not accessible. Right now I have my taskbar hidden, which is fantastic because it gives my laptop screen a bigger feel. And if FireFox's URL could do the same... that would be beautiful.

I have been using FireFox from the beginning, and it is still my browser of choice. Nonetheless, I still see some ways in which the interface would be better. In the long past, I'd been able to put some XML/XUL CSS code in userchrome.css to make these better, at least for me. However, 5-10 years ago, changes in FireFox broke these changes. For the past 5-10 years, I would occasionally get some time to tweak my userchrome.css with information find on this forum or elsewhere online. But every time I found some code snippets, FireFox had changed enough that they didn't work anymore. This is concerning in that the structure and codebase is changing relatively frequently and it's hard to find out how this affects these code snippets.

The two userchrome tweaks i would really like are (a) showing only icons on the bookmarks toolbar, and (b) having the tabs right next to the main window.

Full disclosure: I am not an IT professional, but I started off coding in machine code and only then was allowed to code in A86 assembler. I have had a long interest in user interaction design. I'm a physician and medical school professor, so my interest is primarily in medical software. But I've helped organize some international symposia on the usability of medical software at which I have also lectured, have a blog devoted to the subject, and I was awarded the first annual Lifetime Achievement Award by the Informatics Section of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

So, now for an observation. I have a file cabinet drawer filled with paper records that I need to keep in paper form (as opposed to my usual scanning to PDF. These papers are sorted into file folders. I do not cut the tabs off of all of my folders and put them in a pile somewhere else. Which is why I want my tabs to visually connect to the content in each "folder" by being next to them.

And as far as the Bookmarks Toolbar: I realize the importance of positional memory. I want to have my most important bookmarks on the screen – lots of them – where I can click on them easily. Easily in this case means not having to read text, but being able to automatically move my mouse cursor to about the right place and then refine my click by recognizing the graphic icon for that website.

The best solution would be for the fireFox coders to think about these things, come around to my way of thinking (which OBVIOUSLY has to be right), and make changes in the codebase to make observe these UX principles, and make the appropriate changes in the user interface. Or at least make them options in the user interface. Or at the very least, post in an obvious place changes to the underlying structure that kills userchrome coding (with suggestions how to change the code to work in the new architecture) so that those who are not immersed in the innards of FireFox like me have a fighting chance to improve the interface, at least for a few of us.

I want to know how to disable the image "enhancement" in Firefox. Firefox is rending colours with unrealistic saturation. I recall there being an option to turn it on and off in the config, but I can't find it any more. I've attached a screenshot showing Firefox rendering on the left and MS Edge on the right. MS Edge has image "enhancement" turned off. The most obvious area is the terribly over saturated red pin on the map in the Google search results, but the adjacent picture also shows greater saturation in Firefox. (You may need to scroll horizontally to view the full width of the screenshot.)

Can anyone help me to find the setting?

Thanks in advance.

Hello! I have been using Bitwarden extension on MAC since I set it up more than a year ago. Bitwarden is installed on Raspberry Pi server and uses self-signed certificate. The other day I logged off and currently I am not able to login with the same username and master password. I tried many ways to get to my vault but get message saying my username or password is not correct. In the same time I can get access to my Bitwarden data over web interface with the same credentials. Regards, Alex

Hello,

Yes, indeed, another occurrence of this everlasting request.

I don't want to see the word 'userchrome.css' or 'addon' at all in any of the answers that might be provided.

The question is: when will it be finally possible to have an option in the settings so the user can choose to have the tabs bar BELOW the bookmarks bar. After so many years and so many requests from so many people, how is it possible we have never been heard ?

How to officially raise a complaint / request to the teams taking this kind of decisions ?

Thank you.

I reset the Windows OS on my PC. When I reinstalled Firefox and synced it, the extensions automatically returned but their icons were missing from the address bar.

Worse they only work if I click the extension drop-down and specifically the extension. They used to be aware of the website and automatically do their thing. E.g. the NordPass symbol previously appeared next to passwords and I could click to have the password automatically filled in. Now I have to select the NordPass extension and copy the items one by one into the form. Ditto for Grammerly

And still worse the setting was synced to my laptop.

Without my doing anything, firefox has decided to download pdf files in its own html. I have changed the default to adobe rather than ask. When I open the downloaded file in adobe it comes down as an adobe file, I tell it to save as an adobe pdf, but it appears in file manager and then opens in firefox html. Worse, it, whatever it is, has gone into file manager and changed adobe pdf files, some of which have been sitting on my hard drive for some years, into firefox html files. How do I rectify this please?

This is what my environment looks like: I am using Firefox (version 109.0) on Ubuntu (version 22.04.1). I installed the 1password extension for Firefox (version 2.5.1). I have allowed the 1Password extension to "Run in Private Windows" (from the Firefox Add-ons Manager).

Description of my issue: In Firefox, there is a Privacy&Security setting that allows you to "Always use private browsing mode". When this setting is enabled, the 1Password extension does not work at all (even if I allowed it to run in private windows). That is, every time I click on the 1Password icon in my browser, an empty browser tab shows up, and nothing more. Instead, if I disable that setting, the extension works correctly.

Using online recommendations I was able to force the general theme to white, however individual segments of the FF UI still retain black (see the images). I want to whiten them too. I saw a heap of color related settings in about:config. I set one of them, layout.css.prefers-color-scheme.content-override, to 1 but that had no effect on the appearance of the said elements.
