For some reason my Bookmark Tool Bar no longer displays anything. It is a blank strip across the top of the screen. However all of my bookmarks can be displayed on the right or left side of the screen in a vertical format. I can not find a way to repopulate the original Bookmark Tool Bar and find the current display very awkward give the number of bookmarks I have on file. Is this a result of an intentional upgrade or software failure?

Prior to today, occasionally I would need to restore from a Time Machine backup the files "places.sqlite", "places.sqlite-shm", and "places.sqlite-wal" into my default profile, because I would lose my bookmarks & history.

However, beginning this morning, that procedure did not work. Every time I open up Firefox, the "places.sqlite" file would corrupt immediately and no attempt at restoring (from any backup date/time) would fix the issue.

I am running Mac OS 11.7.2 (Big Sur) and Firefox 111.0.

This is VERY frustrating, because I rely heavily on my bookmarks and passwords.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Hello All, I recently had to start up my brand new MacBook Pro up in "Safe Mode" to verify an unrelated problem. When I restarted my computer from safe mode, my Bookmarks were either gone completely or "empty" and I was apparently in a newer version of Firefox. I then trashed my Firefox application and tried to restore an older version via Time Machine and after I copy it to my Applications folder I get the message that I am trying to open an older version of firefox and then doesn't allow me to do that. When I followed the option to their extents, only the new version with NO bookmarks shows up.

How can I get my old bookmarks back?

Thanks bc

After creating a new Windows User account and switching back to original account, I lost ALL of my Quick Access Bookmarks! Then I did a Bookmark Restore using the most recent saved Bookmark file and I lost around 64,050 bookmarks!!! Now, the latest saved Bookmark file lists 5 items. This is a ridiculous and a very serious issue!!!

What is going on? I spend a lot of time getting important Bookmarks for research, and etc. How can I get all of my Bookmarks back? Apparently, I cannot get them all back. See attached file.

There has been a legitimate issue with the bookmarks since the 92.0 update. This applies only to Windows 7 users. The list is very lazy and will actually freeze up. It takes forever to highlight the bookmark you want and the favicons are delayed in populating. Refreshing Firefox doesn't work. Renaming favicons.sqlite and places.sqlite, and those with the -shm and -wal extensions, if existing, doesn't work either. I don't need help from contributors. The following message is to the developers &/or whoever bastardized Firefox since the 92.0 update...

As I stated, this is a Windows 7 issue. The developers should fix this problem for us Windows 7 users. It was them who caused this issue since the 92.0 update. Everything worked perfect until then. Here’s a bright idea for the developers. How about getting this matter fixed, so that us Windows 7 users can have the same functionality as everyone else. Stop screwing around with a million and one updates every year. You people are doing more harm than good. The people running Chrome are a hell of a lot more intelligent. No issues whatsoever with Windows 7! Try that on for size.

This morning (first thing!) I had a cat partially lay and the keyboard, with my bookmarks "History" open, and, before I could remove her, she pressed the Delete key on the numeric keypad and deleted several bookmarks in rapid succession. After a few seconds of debate with myself, I elected to use the "Restore" feature under "Import and Backup" and restore the previous day's bookmarks.

There's a little detail, though. For whatever reason, the majority of my bookmarks (all the *current* ones) are under "Other Bookmarks", which I assumed was of no matter. However, after the restoration was complete, I noticed that while all bookmarks under "Bookmarks Menu" were restored, the "Other Bookmarks" folder was empty. In actual effect, ALL my bookmarks are missing!

I followed advice posted at the Mozilla support forum (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1355129) and used a tool (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1355129#answer-1453428) to view the contents of my previous day's JSON backup file, and it *does* indeed contain references to the last pages visited that day. However, after doing a backup with that particular compressed JSON file, the contents of the folder "Other Bookmarks" was NOT regenerated, and it's NOT in the restored "Bookmarks Menu" folder either (only old stuff). And I've just noticed that my "Bookmarks Toolbar" (which contained numerous entries) was not restored either.

I need some guidance at this point. The compressed JSON backup file evidently contains the backed up data (including, I assume, the "Bookmarks Toolbar" data). I can't restore it.

I am trying to transfer my firefox bookmarks from my old computer's hard drive to my new computer. they are both fairly current laptops, and i believe both are on windows 10 (the new one is on, i think, whatever the newest version of windows is). I cannot turn on my old computer, so I can't export the bookmarks, but the hard drive is fully functional. The problem is, I can't find where the bookmarks are located. I have tried looking through the files, I have "show hidden files" on, I have tried manually searching for "places.sqlite" and I have tried doing the %APPDATA% thing. I can see other folders on the hard drive very easily, so it shouldn't be the fault of the hard drive. If you know how I am able to find the files, please go through it step-by-step; I'm not proficient in computer things, and something that may seem very obvious and instinctive to you may be what I'm messing up on.

Through the years (been using FF since its first months) on various computers, various OS and FF versions, I've kept a bunch of bookmarks in my toolbar for frequently used links that I can QUICKLY "right-click, copy link, paste" (3 steps) into social media posts.

Tonight I opened up my bookmark contextual menu, hit copy, pasted it into my Twitter, and it pasted the title instead of the link!!

How useless is that! A title is easy to type out, a long complex url isn't, having a "copy" (title) instead of the "copy link" is entirely useless!

Now to accomplish same, I have go choose "edit" instead of "copy link" and then "click drag" the url then "copy" then "paste" then close the window. 5+ steps instead of 3. Who on Earth thought changing that function was a good idea?! More steps is NEVER a good direction.

IOS: 12.6.3 Firefox 102.9.0esr macbook rebooted cached cleared

Clarification coming from possible answers: Firefox's "Paste" function is working fine, since the url correctly pastes to Mac PAGES and Facebook. It's the paste to Twitter that does "Title" instead of "url". So obviously a Firefox-Twitter problem.

Variation of problem: I tried "Copy" from Firefox Bookmark Subemnu, then went over to Twitter on Chrome, and the "Paste" to Twitter on Chrome also results in a paste of Title instead of url. I tried "Copy" from Chrome Bookmark Submenu, then paste into Twitter on Chrome, and the "Paste" correctly pastes the url. This points to a mis-programming of the Firefox "Copy" function in the bookmark submenu.

My Firefox bookmark menus are often taller than my screen.

When I select a bookmark well down in the current menu by typing a letter, for example "T", the menu display scrolls down to the first matching choice, but that choice can be mostly covered by the down-caret indicating more choices further down. I can see the top of the highlight for the current choice, but I can't read the text of the choice.

Not a big deal, but I'm hoping it's an easy fix. Thank you!

So this crazy new update has broken my Firefox in these ways:

1. All my bookmarks on my bookmarks bar have been deleted. 2. I can't drag any new links to the bookmarks bar 3. Overflow menu for apps is empty and will only let me drag Firefox defaults to it such as settings. Dragging apps to it is impossible. It "is" possible to pin items by using the Chrome puzzle piece..

Using Firefox on desktop, Windows 11. I am a long term Firefox fan/user.

My problem is I cannot find anywhere an easy method to add a shortcut on my Home Screen (which has now been a FF feature for some considerable time).

I am sure there was something available to do this in a prior version some time back. If I search the internet, I only come across articles describing how to do it on Firefox Android.

I know I can manually edit a box on the Home Screen to create what I need.

Sometimes new web sites that I visit appear in the boxes and I can then pin them in place - but the behavior around this is very erratic and unreliable - seems like random chance for an icon to appear on the home screen for a newly visited site. If this was more consistent, I could work with that.

BUT - where is the **intuitive** option??!!

I should be able to right-click on a tab and select "Add to Home Screen".

As simple as that.

Or drag and drop a link, or tab to the home screen - but this just opens the link. I have tried everything obvious that I can think of.

Anyone?

Many thanks :)

It is sad, I think, that Mozilla/Firefox is willing to close/archive a thread that is not really solved or has reared its ugly head again in versions since the release of 93 (we are now at 97.0.2). I came to this site and registered because I am still having this issue as of 3/6/2022...arg!

I have tried the 3 recommended solutions, with no affect:

I have, as one article suggested, cleared my cache and cookies, started and restarted Firefox; the only thing I have not tried is removing it from my computer and using Chrome (I'm told it is a better browser anyway) as some responders have eluded to.

I hope that responders like "jscher2000, Kymber" will continue the champion this issue until Mozilla gets it "Really" fixed.

Thanks for listening, Wayne

BTW, heres what my dropdowns look like today 3/6/2022 6:17 PM Arizona time.

So, I just noticed today that my bookmarks section is having the same issue again that it had a few updates back.

I tried looking into repeating what I did last time, but it doesn't seem that this is the issue this time as the settings have not changed from when I went into to edit them the last time. Meaning this might be a whole new issue. I *did* however notice that there is a new and odd section listing in about:config under the following:

browser.bookmarks.defaultLocation SxQPPk-c1zth

Does anyone know if this is the issue, and if so, where this is supposed to really go?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
