I have upgraded a few times recently to 37 and now to 39 but the firefox homepage search bar has lost all of my history and more importantl, I used to be able to double-click on it to bring up a list of recent searches. Oh yeah, and the font has been changed and is now too big :(

Is there anything I can do to import / get back my list of old searches and change the other bits? If not I will be stuck on 32 / 33 for ever!

Cheers, Jason.

Long story short, before the latest FF update 62.0, when I started typing an letter or two in the address bar, I used to get my desired website link on the top of it.

Now, I'm not sure what happened but now I'm getting probably the most visited website link rather than the preference given as earlier. I have to type nearly half the website address or sometimes even the complete one to get the actual web address I'm trying to access, this is getting irritating. Even bookmarks aren't give the top preference over the most/latest visited link.

for example, when I typed - mo, I used to get mozilla links in the address bar drop down list - I just had to open the link I was interested in, now I have to type nearly the entire word, to even get the list related to that specific website.

Under Tools>Options>Privacy and security, Bookmarks under address bar is checked, but It still doesn't work. I have to type the whole thing in. For example, if I want to go to www.google.com, I can just type in 'goo' and the rest would be highlighted in blue, and I can press enter. This stopped working, the rest won't show up highlighted in blue anymore, how can I fix this?

After downloading and installing Firefox 62.0, I found that when I mouse over the address bar, the link to NPR's Morning Edition had disappeared -- it used to appear automatically, along with my school and public email addresses and the news sites I most often go to. At the same time, two new -- and unwanted -- links appeared: The Needle Drop and Overstock Outlet Locations. How can I eliminate these latter two sites and restore NPR's Morning Edition to me address bar drop down menu?

I would begin an address bar/URL entry like "FAC" and it would autocomplete as "FACEBOOK.COM" and I would just hit [ENTER] or "FOX" would become "FOXNEWS.COM", then I would have to hit [ENTER]. Those choices still appear in a drop-down list but it was faster when the URL automatically filled. I had this functionality until the update to 62.0 this week. Can I restore this function in the configs?

I've noticed that with the latest update (62.0, I think), autocomplete won't work for bookmarks when the browsing and download history is deleted. I discovered this by looking into why autocomplete wouldn't work and finding this https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1180019, so I deleted the places.sqlite file and that fixed it. That is, until the next time I deleted the browsing and download history. So I guess for now I could try to automate the process of deleting places.sqlite every time I clear the history, but I would like to find some internal Firefox setting or something that would fix this permanently.

When will we be getting the custom search engine feature in firefox that is on par with chrome and doesn't require me to write an addon. This is really helpful in the cases when the url is not that of a search engine, but requires lots of mundane and repeated url constructions - e.g. 1. https://<SomeCodeBrowserSite>.com/packages/%s/logs, https://<SomeCodeBrowserSite>.com/packages/%s/releases or https://<SomeCodeBrowserSite>.com/packages/%s/repo-info etc. while, there is a separate search engine with url - https://<SomeCodeBrowserSite>.com/search?term=<search term> 2. And each of the %s will be replaced with the string that is typed in the location bar - in the above example, the first url can be constructed

a. by typing "cbp" in the location bar and
b. space or tab
c. <the actual package name>
d. press enter
e. boom!! you see the url expands and substitutes the string and the page is being loaded.
Search requires 2 hops, while i could directly end up on the page in a single step without the requirement of navigating the search results.

3. In addition, it doesn't require to have a string field that needs to be substituted. for example, i have set "cse" for chrome://settings and as soon as i type "cse" and press enter, the settings page loads.

As a software developer, i have around 50+ such urls each tagged with specific shortcuts and this is the only thing that stops me from moving back to firefox - (desperately waiting to move to firefox given the ram consumption by chrome - but not until these 50 urls are migrated).

The last two updated have killed the functionality of the address/search bar. It's now supposed to be an "awesome bar" but it's quite the opposite. Instead of my normal bookmarks, like "https://www.youtube.com/feed/subscriptions" when I start typing youtube I get "youtube.com." I have tried the shift+delete to remove this suggestion but I guess the update doesn't let us do that anymore. I really want to be able to have the bar work like it used to, autofilling your most used favorite, not random garbage.

In the past, I have been able to get to bookmarks on the bookmark dropdown menu by hitting the key that corresponds to the first letter of the bookmark. For example, to get to a bookmark starting with "b", I hit the B key on the keyboard and the first bookmark starting with B is highlighted. Hit it again and the next one starting with B is highlighted. After the last one, loop back to the first one.

That no longer works. Hitting B now stops on "Bookmark This Page", and depending on the time between key hits, it will also stop on "Bookmark All Tabs...". It will not go to any other lines on the menu. Now, to get to "Bank", I hit C followed by up arrow.

Also, behavior is erratic in that sometimes it will stop on a line that does not match the key being hit.

In documenting this, I just discovered that if I type "ba" it will go to BANK. That will help for now. I hope this can be fixed in the future.

I've researched the net and every "solution" that has been offered fails to work.

I'd like the awesome bar (address bar) not to remember or suggest anything and if by chance it does remember something I want CCleaner to be able to delete the entries.

This is a deal breaker. If I can't protect my privacy using Firefox I'll find another browser. I am a longtime Firefox user and want to stay with Firefox.

Shift+Delete no longer works to remove these erroneous results. I've never heard of, used, visited, or wanted to visit "http://nycsubway.org/" or anything related to it, but now firefox's "awesome" bar sends me there instead of Netflix, which I use daily. I've turned off all the random suggestions for the address bar but these random, wrong, ads keep popping up. If I've never used it, and I'm not searching for it, putting it there must mean "http://nycsubway.org/" has paid you to be an annoyance in or lives. Or why else would you do this?!

This is not a new phenomenon, neither is the thread. But I have not found in here a real solution. I mean they all suggest to delete all the "places" files from FF profile, restart in Safe mode etc. I have enough of this. I have done it in the past and I do it again and it doesn't solve the problem. That's why I am here with the same issue, actually **UNSOLVED**

I give you an example proving that the problem is idependent of "places":

1) I type 'ishow.gr' in the Address bar 2) I enter the site 3) I go back to the previous page 4) I start typing 'is..." 5) No autocomplete

It's as simple as that. And this did not happen in the past (before Firefox Quantum).

When I type "t", the address bar automatically show" place:type=6&sort=14&maxResults=10/". Since this is not really an address, I can't delete this from history.
