For some reason my passwords went missing locally and when I went to sync them my account would not connect and the saved password was missing. So I went through the password reset process to sign into my sync account and when I resigned into it to sync, there was no passwords on the account.

Is there any backup performed by mozilla or any other way to get like a backup of the online account passwords somehow. My local logins.json files are corrupt so I cant use them.

This is extremely disappointing if they cant be retrieved.

I have completely separate bookmarks and bookmark toolbars on my work PC and home PC. I do log in on my home PC as to not lose my personal bookmarks and passwords. I accidentally logged into Firefox at work and it merged my bookmarks from my home PC. I logged out of Firefox on the work PC and removed the bookmarks that were imported from my home PC profile. I then tried to make a new account with my work email and login to sync on my work PC but it always says primary email needed and I'm stuck. I did go to about:profiles and add a work profile but that doesn't help me. I need to make a Firefox profile on my work PC with my work email address but the primary email thing gets me. Is there a way to do this with my current work PC bookmarks not lost? Thanks

I've had my Firefox bookmarks configured just the way I wanted them for years, many years on my desktop. I finally caved in and thought it'd be nice to replicate those bookmarks over to my laptop since I've been spending more time on that lately. I had a FF Sync account logged in on my desktop machine for a few years syncronizing to nothing. I've been been hesitated adding in another Sync member in case something went wrong....and it so did:

1. Once the laptop was logged into Sync, everything seemed pulled over just fine. However, the laptop bookmark toolbar was showing my Chrome bookmark toolbar items. Those are different for personal reasons (not relevant to this - but very important). I thought, "Oh well, that sucked, best I manually copy back my bookmark toolbar on the laptop and forget Sync." 2. However, I then noticed on my desktop that my original Desktop toolbar bookmarks now also resemble my Chrome bookmark toolbars. 3. So, somehow Sync'ing two FIREFOX browsers synced them with CHROME. That's not what's supposed to happen...is it? I wanted two instances of Firefox to replicate to each other...Didn't want Chrome involved. 4. Looking through the Sync properties, there are all these FF Sync options to choose from but I can't be sure what they do, and have lost faith in trying or wanting to at this point.

  • What I'd like to do is go back in time to a time before I initiated the Sync connection and get my *desktop* back to where it was before all this went wrong:

1. I am versed in managing Windows profiles, manually replacing Firefox profiles between computers (from the days before Sync existed) so, if that's an option, please provide the FF profile location in Win x64 and how to juggle and which of the profiles to juggle to take my desktop back in time to the way it was before I launched Sync with my laptop.

2. If there's a "Holy shit I screwed something up and need to undo all this mess" type of panic button/Hail Mary Pass option then please let me know.

If you need any additional information from me, let me know but I otherwise hope I've been descriptive enough as to what I'm struggling with.

Thanks, Ted

I recently had to wipe my laptop and didn't have a chance to back stuff up off it. Thankfully, all my tabs and passwords are synced with Firefox Sync, but alas, I don't remember my password. So I pulled an old laptop I hadn't touched in a couple years, it was still logged in to Firefox Sync -- I could see all my tabs and passwords there. But the password for Firefox Sync itself? Out of date, turns out it's wrong (must've changed it at some point and not updated.)

So now I'm forced to, eventually, reset my password. What to do? Well, it says it will clear all my data (passwords, tabs, etc.) At the same time, since I'm *already logged in* and can view all the data, I'm hoping it would just stay here locally when it gets wiped server-side, and then I could re-sync my tabs and passwords in. Does this work this way?

tl;dr if I'm already logged into Firefox Sync, and reset the password, will I still lose everything?

Thanks.

Hi team, Can you explain me how exactly firefox sync works? asking because I thought by syncing it will save all the bookmarks with my account and I can use the same account to bring back all the bookmarks on another device.

I created an account on linux dual booted with windows and synced all the things I saved on firefox. Recently I switched to pop os and logged in using the same account. Expecting to see all the bookmarks on here too. But unfortunately it didn't worked. And all my bookmarks are gone. Is there any way I can recover those data?

Kind regards
