If I click on any "mailto" link the only options are Gmail or Firefox.

If I go into Settings and choose applications then content type: mailto the same options are there- nothing for Yahoo Mail.

It used to be there, now it has gone.

Using version 110.0.1

Is there any way to manually add Yahoo mail to Firefox?

Firefox refusing Primary Password

Today, after browsing about whether or not I should continue using Firefox as my password manager, I decided to mitigate the most important security flaw in browser based password managers, by setting up a Primary Password. I choose to use an easy to remember 8 word long passphrase as my Primary Password. I noted down the passphrase in my diary. Due to problem while loading YouTube, I decided to restart Firefox by going to about:profiles and selecting "restart normally". This issue where Firefox starts to struggle connecting to internet is a relatively common occurrence on my Firefox install, and restarting Firefox fixes the issue. When Firefox restarted, I was prompted to enter the primary password. I confidently entered my passphrase, but it was rejected. I tried to typing to it more carefully several times. I got my diary and checked it to make sure I was entering the passphrase correctly. Following troubleshooting steps on a similar thread, I restarted firefox, no luck. I than rebooted my computer, issue persisted. I decided to restart Firefox with extensions disabled, and also in troubleshooting mode. Firefox still rejects my passphrase. I have my Firefox account synchronized with two Android phones. Will reinstalling Firefox and syncing with my Firefox account solve the problem? In a similar troubleshooting thread, renaming key4.db and logins.json is suggested. However, it has not been explained very clearly. My logins.json file was modified an hour before disaster, even though I had made no changes to any of my logins or the master password. Is my logins.json corrupted causing the issue? I will like to point out a design flaw in Firefox which might have caused the issue. I usually want to see what I am typing when I am entering an encryption password. This is to make sure that I don't mistype something. However, in Firefox Primary Password configuration window, there is not option to see what you are typing. Firefox relies on low probability of typing the wrong password twice. I don't think devs should be so worried about shoulder attacks to not even allow users option to view what they typing. My case might be that low probability situation where I made the same mistake while typing the passphrase twice.

FOLLOWUP: Success! It turned out to be an extension called "Enhancer for YouTube". I added that because my add-ons had been wiped out by the update yesterday and forgot that it was a new one I'd never tried before.

Thank you Cor-el for pointing me in the right direction!

This is what transpired before.-----------------------

Using Windows 7. These were suggested. Of course none of them made the slightest difference.

   media.autoplay.default = 5 [0:allow;1:blockAudible;2:Prompt;5:blockAll]
   media.autoplay.blocking_policy = 2
   media.autoplay.allow-extension-background-pages = false
   media.autoplay.block-event.enabled = true

Does anyone on here understand this stupid video "follow us and block the page for stupid reasons" thing? How can software designers be so brain dead and out of touch with the rest of the planet? I do wonder sometimes.

I'm really not sure how something like this can happen but I have lost access to your products. My favorites, passwords, DuckDuckgo, background, and everything. I thought that once I signed into Firefox again all these saved items would come back but nothing has. It's like someone pushed a button and changed my world using all the products that you offer. I don't know how to retrieve these needed items and I'm hoping hard you can return my Mozilla world to me. I don't really understand how this could have happened but I'm hoping it wasn't something I did. I can't give you any hints that might explain how something like this could happen. When I tried to sign into firefox Microsoft Edge offered to provide the password but I don't want to go near their products. It seems when you go that way Microsoft will add a dozen things I don't want. I'd like to thank you for any and all help you can provide to me. Also thanks for your time. Most sincerely, Robert Auerbach

It seems like almost every time I do a Windows Update on and sometimes when I just restart my Lenovo IdeaPad 3 my language gets changed from American English to French. Even some of the add-ons change preferences. Since I don't speak or read French it can be a real hassle to get everything changed back. What I usually end up doing is going to the page on the Mozilla site that has different downloads for different languages and I download the correct one. Once I install it over the existing installation things go back as they should be until I do another Windows Update or like I said before, sometimes after just a restart. This just happened again a few hours ago when I did a Windows Update. All the menu items and drop downs were suddenly in French. My Forecast Fox changed to Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. My Notifier for GMail changed to French. A couple log in pages for some web pages were in French. This never happened with other laptops I have had that were different brands. I once tried just uninstalling Firefox and then reinstalling the correct language version and things were fine until the next time I did an update. My preferences are set to how I want them and I just don't understand why it keeps getting changed.

Hello there,

I've been having problems with using Firefox for a while. For context, I'm using a computer given to me by my college because my personal laptop gave up the ghost a while ago. It has a lot of security programs installed on it and I am obviously not allowed to mess with those at all, as my account doesn't have the permissions. Here are some of the problems I've been having:

  • always signed out of my firefox account on relaunch (no options enabled that would cause this)
  • always logged out of specific websites on relaunch (primarily noticed with discord)
  • addon windows never load
  • addons don't work, even when enabled, and after uninstall and reinstalling

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox also, but nothing seemed to fix these problems. The only thing that stopped happening was being signed out of my Firefox account on relaunch but I have no idea what was causing it or what stopped it.

Now, in an attempt to fix the problems I was having with addons, I refreshed my Firefox. So far I haven't done anything to it other than sign into my Firefox account. Upon trying to reinstall my addons, I got errors like this: "An unexpected error occurred during installation." and "UBlock Origin could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the needed file." For reference, here's all the addons I had installed before I refreshed: Tranquility Reader, HTTPS Everywhere, Better TTV, Shinigami Eyes, UBlock Origin, Windscribe, Enhancer for Youtube, Dark Reader, and Bitwarden. I tried installing UBlock Origin, Enhancer for Youtube, and Bitwarden, and got the exact same errors every time. I'm really lost on what to do.

Hi. I have about 15 home pages set to open when I open Firefox. I read the news, catch up on a few sites and have various jobs and tasks to complete. But whenn I've don all that, and close down Firefox, each time I open Firefox again to search for something etc, all 15 of my startup pages open up and I have to manually close them all down.

On Windows 11, all I need to do it right click the firefox icon and select open new tab. This is great, it opens Firefox with just a single new tab open. But on my iMac, this option is missing.

How can I re-open firefox with just a blank tab - or even just one specific page like Google?

After a recent reinstall Firefox seems to have a problem. This seems to be only Firefox specific and I can't find a working solution online after googling.

Youtube videos work, although they do give errors sometimes. A refresh always fixes those. However Twitch/Youtube live streams do not, and display a generic error message. When trying other browsers the live streams work fine.

And old Bugzilla post (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1467495) describes what I believe to be a possible reason for the problem, however following the solutions in that thread have not yet lead to a solution.

Any further insight or solutions would be appreciated.

I have been trying for a year to get my newsletter subscriptions to go to my "new" (not so new, now) email address instead of an old one I have not used for a long time. There is no way it seems to alter the email address for subscriptions. And I cannot see how to sign up with my new email address. I really would like to receive information from Firefox/Mozilla.

Hello everyone,

this here is a really odd problem and not one of the usual "firefox slow, internet bad" → "read the faq" problems as far as I can tell.

The problem: When using Firefox (110.0 64-bit Windows 10) I noticed already a while ago that downloads are slow, apparently frozen from time to time, websites took longer to load and looking at speed tests, I got really bad results. Furthermore, Firefox seems to slow down my internet speeds of the whole system, as I can observe in other applications which want to download or upload data. As long as Firefox is running (even if I am just in the default tab and doing nothing in Firefox) it slows the internet speed of the whole system down.

So I tried a plethora of things to fix this and I can rule out the following possible causes with high confidence:

  • History, Cache, Add-Ons and so on: performed a clean re-install of Firefox, cleared all cache and history data, removed add-ons, reset to default, etc..
  • ISP problem: performed repeated speedtests from other devices within the network, everything is fine within my local and wide area network, ISP does not report any problems
  • Firewall & AV: turning on / off, even uninstalling, no effect observed
  • Driver problem: driver updated, driver removed, used default Windows Driver, used Troubleshooter etc., nothing helped.
  • OS issue: Nope. I even performed a clean new installation of Windows today, the problem remains. Furthermore: I ran the speedtests using Microsoft Edge and there are no issues (as long as Firefox is not running.)
  • HW / System issue: Nopes again. I have used a live Ubuntu-image to cross-check whether the HW might be an issue, but running speedtests using Ubuntu and Firefox worked well.

I did not observe similar effects on other machines using Firefox under Windows in my network. So it seems to be a very specific problem within Firefox under Windows 10 on my machine.

By the way the machine: HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-dk0200ng CPU: Intel Core i5-9300H RAM: 16 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM WiFi: Realtek RTL8822BE 802.11ac (via PCIe) (I also have an Ethernet chipset on this system, but since I have tested everything using only WiFi I'll omit the info here.)

So is this a bug of Firefox? Or am I missing something?

Attached are some screenshots of the disappointing test results using Firefox. (I have similar problems on other sites like speedtest.net or the speedtest of Google). As reference: I've got 500 Mbit/s downstream and 50 Mbit/s upstream. Usually these speeds are achieved from other devices (or other browsers on my system), or are at least within the top 80%. But what I get with Firefox is significantly worse. It's also strange that the speed goes up first, which is fine, but then falls down completely after reaching some point. A few seconds after that it goes up again, but much much slower.

Thanks in advance for any help!
