I need to constantly jump between google search and wikipedia and i hate using the mouse. Normaly when you click the url bar you can type "@wikipedia" or "@google" to change the search engine to wiki, while typing anything else will prompt a google search. BUT when you use the shortcut "ctrl + e" or "ctrl + k" a box appears in front of the url bar with "Google", just like it would whe you typed "@google". This actually blocks "@wikipedia" from being registered making the whole feature almost useless and forcing me to invent workarounds to things that should be VERY simple in a browser. Any ideas how to fix this?

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");

PlacesToolbarItems > .bookmark-item[container][label="Complete Tasks" i] {fill: #FF0000 !important;} PlacesToolbarItems > .bookmark-item[container][label="Medical Coding" i] {fill: #FF0000 !important;} PlacesToolbarItems > .bookmark-item[container][label="Bodybuilding" i] {fill: #FF0000 !important;}

This isn't that important, but I was just experimenting to see if changing a few folder colors would be of any benefit to me. And the above code that I tried didn't work. I'm guessing that something changed with Mozilla Firefox in the last 1-1.5 years, and I have a feeling that if I dig into https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/Attribute_selectors for hours or even days I won't be able to figure out what I need to change. Anyone know what the new code should be? Thanks in advance.

I normally use Firefox desktop on my Linux computer.

Last week, I started using it on a public computer running Windows. I installed Firefox Portable and then logged/synced into my Firefox account on this Win computer. I noticed that in the Firefox Portable Windows “about:preferences” page, it says “Your browser is being managed by your organization”, which links to about:policies. In that “about:policies” page, it shows this https://i.imgur.com/JmD8nXg.png Policy Name: DisableAppUpdate Policy Value: true. Now I’m back on my Linux desktop computer and it also has this “managed by your organization” message in “about:preferences” and the same “about:policies” stuff. In other words, it appears that this policy was copied from the Windows public computer to my personal Linux computer. I don’t want that.

How can I undo this? And how can I block this sort of policy syncing?

As of version 91 I think it was, around middle of 2021 (last year), in the dropdowns from the across-to-the-top bookmarks menu, the items are spaced out vertically way too much. So much space is wasted. I like the spacing they had before that version. I just want to go on record as giving feedback that I don't like it, and wish it went back to the original spacing. I have looked at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1346987 and know there's all sorts of weird stuff I can do to customize my Firefox to get the spacing I want, however, my point with this post is to get feedback back to the Firefox developers to see if they will consider changing it back. If posting here is not the best way to get feedback back to the developers/designers/product-owners, please let me know the best way. I couldn't find another way.

For an unknown reason, Firefox Browser doesn't render portions of text on some pages, leaving invisible areas. I'm using the latest version (95.0.2) on Windows 10, but this was a problem in other recent versions. It only happens on some systems. No other browser I've tried has the same problem, so the issue is definitely Firefox-specific.

One example of a problematic page is arxiv.org, another one is Caltech News; see the attached screenshots for how Firefox renders these pages on my system.

Here's what I found out.

  1. The issue goes away if I disable the "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above" font setting.
  2. The issue remains even if I disable/uninstall all add-ons.
  3. Refresh-install doesn't resolve the issue.
  4. After uninstalling and installing Firefox cleanly again, with old settings auto-imported (bookmarks, history, logins ...) and no add-ons present, the issue is not present at first. However, if I enable "Open previous windows and tabs" option to restore my session on startup, the issue reappears after I close and re-open Firefox a couple of times, and doesn't go away after that. It doesn't matter whether the problematic pages are included in the restored session or not; they will simply not show all text as expected if I visit them.
  5. Deleting the entire cache, cookies, site data and site settings doesn't help.
  6. Opening Firefox in Troubleshoot mode make the problem disappear, but it returns immediately when I leave the Troubleshoot mode.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Recently if I browse pages with maths forumulas they do not display coorectly, instead the underlying Tex or LateX code is shown.

I have several computers and I use Firefox on all of them, but curiously this problem does not happen on all of them, some show formulae correctly.

The image attached shows an example at Wikipedia - Lagrange point . The upper portion is Chrome and displays correctly, the lower portion is Firefox where the formyuals do not display correctly.

This is only started recently. Previously I had no issues with formulas displaying on any pf my computers, for many years.

Saw older replies here, but I don't have the technical expertise to understand them.

The 3D function in Google maps doesn't exist. The item to click on is no longer there. Is there a work-around or do I have to use Chrome now.

(It seems with each update I automatically get, I lose a function. I'd like to get a link to a Firefox version from at least 6 months ago.)

google.com and google related websites doesn't load at all. For example, gmail slowly loads, but loading icon never disappears, loading icon is always shown and then often it shows 'reconnecting' message. This works OK in Chrome.

Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Firefox without VPN - all loads well. 2. Enable VPN - stops loading. If I then disable VPN - it starts loading again.

If I restart Firefox it starts working OK, but after a while stops working again.

Hi all, Firefox has been using quite a bit of RAM lately.

Ok, I had like a dozen tabs open, but I think this might be a little too many Firefox instances (see screenshot; minimize memory usage just run).

I have already tried disablig tab autostart and decreasing the value of processes in about:config but nothing ever changes.

I hope someone will be able to help me out. Thanks :)

I lost a window containing 500+ tabs and really need it back. My computer had just restarted, and usually after that I would recover my tabs using either the "Restore Session" page that would come up or by doing "three-bar menu" > "History" > "Restore previous windows". However, this time, someone else used my laptop after it booted up and started a new tab on the "session restore" page. This window was then closed. When I opened up the window again and navigated back to the original "Restore Session" page, the "Restore Session" button didn't work. Is there any way I can restore my original window with the 500+ tabs? I have a lot of important information that I would be very sad to lose. Thank you.

I have searched for this problem, and only come across outdated information about Youtube's intentional changes to slowdown Edge and Firefox in 2019. This is not that.

When I load a new youtube video, the video will buffer as normal, and then buffering stops. Then there is a delay of about 10 seconds. You can see from my screenshot that the buffer is filled just fine, and playback begins about 10 seconds later. This also happens if I skip ahead/back or to any position in the video. This firefox install is on a new install of Windows 11, with a new xps 13. The previous xps 13 with windows 11 didn't have this problem, and I don't have this problem on my desktop setup with windows 10.

I use a few addons: decentraleyes, ublock, duckduckgo and I have privacy protections set to strict. I have tried a few troubleshooting steps and the problem persists. Things I have tried:

  • safe-mode
  • fresh install
  • installed additional codecs
  • used user-agent workarounds to show as a chromium based browser
  • turned off hardware acceleration

The problem doesn't happen on chrome, but it does happen on Edge, which is strange. Because of this, I'm wondering if there is something going on with codecs. In the firefox screenshot posted, the codec used is vp09, same with Edge. But in Chrome the codec is av01.

Hello,

So I have shortcuts configured in 3 rows that open on each new tab. These shortcuts contain my most used websites. However not all the shortcut squares are actually filles on each row. And that is how I want to keep it.

But during any browsing session I see that the rest of the shortcut squares are being filled from the current history of the browsing session from other websites.

Recently I had to reinstall Firefox and as far as I know I configured everything the same. But in my old install I managed to keep a fixed set of websites in those shortcut rows and NOTHING from the browsing history was added.

So, how do I configure the shortcuts that only the websites I add there manually stay there and NO other websites will be added from the browsing history?

I use Firefox quite a bit and installed it on my wife’s MacBook air and I’m trying to get her to use it. I recently set up a gmail account for my brother-in-law who does not have Internet and uses my wife’s MacBook air when he visits us.

A couple of days ago the mystery icon—Firefox logo with a tv screen on the upper right—started appearing on my MacBook pro every time she turned on her computer. There does not seem to be a way to get rid of it. Any suggestions?

I've been using Elijah Lopez's Matte Black (Red) theme for months. Recently, I think because I added the ClearURLs extension or some other change, certain websites enter some sort of "dark mode" when accessed.

Websites that do this include Twitter, an independent blog, and Youtube.

The website appears normally with the default light theme enabled. In the second photo, the website appears in the "dark mode" with the black Firefox theme enabled.

I have deleted cookies and cache, reinstalled Firefox, and reinstalled Extensions. I think this problem only occurs with dark themes, and nothing else. The moment I change to dark theme, the problem comes back. It is strange because the dark theme was working just fine for months until recently.

How can I keep the dark theme, preferably the same Elijah Lopez's dark theme, while using websites normally and not in this weird "dark theme" style adaptation?
