My Windows Task Scheduler contains an entry called "Firefox Default Browser Agent". If I delete it, it returns. If I disable it, it re-enables itself. How do I NUKE this permanently?

I already have telemetry and automatic updates both turned off.

A related problem is that the About Firefox window keeps saying "Firefox is being updated by another instance", even though I always "Dismiss" the prompt to download the latest version. (I'm using v107.0.)

Framerate drops after update to 107 on machines with Intel integrated graphics

Since the update to Firefox 107.0 (now on 107.0.1) from 106.0.5 on two Intel-based Macs with Intel integrated graphics running Windows 7 (I know...) under Boot Camp, I'm experiencing poor graphics performance in Firefox. I first noticed this when scrolling felt choppy and then subsequently on video playback (YouTube and other sites). Text input and other animations can also feel more laggy or jittery than previously.

This is very similar to what I first experienced when WebRender rolled out to these devices. At the time, I set gfx.webrender.force-disable=true. However, I believe that setting hasn't been heeded for several versions, so I was eventually using WebRender without issue. The release notes for 107 do not suggest that anything related to WebRender or compositing have changed, which makes this particularly baffling.

The amount of stutter is compounded after opening a second Firefox window (regular or Private Browsing).

I have tried Troubleshoot Mode with extensions disabled and disabling hardware acceleration, but the problem occurs in either mode (confirmed with about:support showing "WebRender" or "WebRender (software)" as appropriate).

I enabled gfx.webrender.debug.profiler=true to examine frame rates. Shortly after launching Firefox, frame rates remain around 60 fps and things feel smooth for a bit. However, the frame rate will periodically drop to about 22-31 fps for 5-10 seconds while playing a video or continuous animation without interaction. Viewing Task Manager for all users during this process does not show a notable spike in activity for other processes when the frame rate drops and overall CPU load is nominal.

Opening a second window causes the frame rate for all windows to drop to 30-31 fps maximum, which similarly periodically falls to 12-15 fps for a few seconds. It's clear that the target 60 fps is not maintained when more than one Firefox window is open. I had not checked the reported frame rate with a second window open in prior Firefox versions, so I do not know if this is a change, just that I hadn't observed an apparent degradation in regular use.

The two graphics cards in question for these two machines are: Intel HD Graphics 3000 Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200 I believe both are updated with the last OEM (Apple) Boot Camp drivers for this hardware which, granted, are on the old side. I have not yet attempted later drivers directly from Intel, as I hadn't encountered issues until this recent Firefox update. I have not noticed an issue on my other machines running Firefox.

Any suggestions on restoring the graphics performance would be appreciated.

This must have been designed by someone with SERIOUS brain damage. Every time I use it it shows its glaring deficiencies. Its like whoever designed it never used bookmarks before in their life and never used it after it was done. I use the term "done" very, very loosely. How can people like this get work?

When you add a bookmark a narrow window opens up (of course you can't resize it) but I wonder if I can change its size in about:config? If you have a lot of folders you can only see a tiny bit of them at once. Its just ludicrous.

Another bizarre thing about the Firefox bookmark system is when you click on a bookmark it overrides your last opened tab. Why on earth would any sane person do that? If you want to close it you can close it anytime. Is there something in about:config that can make it work properly?

Maybe there's an extension with a sane bookmark system that doesn't look like it was designed by a brain damaged nutcase?

Maybe its just an autistic thing. Brilliant in a few areas and totally out to lunch in others. Like common sense. Sorry to be so harsh but I cannot comprehend how Mozilla has not fixed this. Maybe they left Earth and are exploring other worlds.

Yeah I know....I need a bookmark program. Its just kind of convenient to have it built into the browser sometimes. Its more seamless. If only this wasn't so bloody awful. And I do mean bloody.  :)

If only I was smarter so I could code myself.....

20 GB RAM usage, pagefile takes up all space on C: - 300 tabs in Tree Tabs

First, this post is basically Congratulations for Firefox upon working almost flowlessly under this extreme heavy load without crashing. Saving/loading sessions works well. (which is unexpected but makes me _very_ happy :-)) Firefox exits properly without any exceptions, no matter how long it runs, or how many times the PC is sent to STR mode meanwhile.

Second, everything is fine, except RAM usage. No matter how many RAM is installed, Firefox takes up all of it after a few days of normal operation. I have recently upgraded my PC from 16 to 24 GB of RAM only for this sole reason to see if anything changes, but it did not produce any noticable change, except that it takes 5-7 days for Firefox to fill up all the RAM instead of the 3-4 days before. Disk space on C: drive was nullified by Firefox as the paging file went up to 50 GB.

I want to hunt down this thing. I have approx. 300 tabs, 2 addons, and Hardware Acceleration is disabled since otherwise Fox hangs several times a day (have to be killed from outside). Pics are attached. https://addons.mozilla.org/hu/firefox/addon/tree-tabs/ https://gitlab.com/kroppy/TreeTabs

I'd like to get suggestions where to start.

  1. Disabling or replacing the adblocker ?
  2. Inspecting memory usage on Process Manager (about:processes) and Task Manager (about:performance) pages ?
  3. Installing some external tools like Firemin ?

Please don't suggest neither safe mode nor disabling all addons, since that makes it impossible to reproduce this amount of load, which is the primary reason behind the symptom.

I PrtScr'ed Process Manager and Task Manager, see that RAM sizes per page are normal in Task Manager, but not in Process Manager (10 times more).

CPU usage is totally normal for this load, even when memory is in the heaven. See the TaskMan pic. (I suppose that's because of ad blocking)

Thanks for any ideas,

Peter B. (I'm PC enthusiast)

last sunday when i restarted my pc due to sluggishness with mozilla firefox and thunderbird, a problem occurred to disable the functionality of bookmarks (favorites) and history; an error message pops up saying one of firefox's files is being used by another application, caused by a security program.  as a result, pressing control shift o for bookmarks library shows an empty tree view; typing a search entry in the editfield yields no results-bookmarks have all disappeared or are inaccessible. also i can't save a new bookmark with alt control d. later on i noticed my firefox browser had automatically updated, so this may be responsible for disabling functionalities of earlier firefox versions; i currently have firefox 107.0.1 on windows 7 machine.  does anyone know what i can do to re-enable the bookmarks functionality like it was before, and how to turn off automatic updates?  thanks.

Dear Sir

1: Firefox often crashing. 2: When I opened a site (mail, youtube...what ever it is ) it said No responding I could not close it I could not go anywhere, the only thing I did was shut down computer completed then waited for 5 or 10 minutes to turn on PC again. 3 : The pages (site) I was watching it just gone (for not knowing why?) I then have to open it again from start.

The problems happened so often in recent months. It's really frustrated, annoying, and fed up. Can Firefox engineer help to sort out these problems. Please.

Thank you. Louise

Some web pages contain data split into pages and provide something like "Previous 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Next" at the bottom of each page. One example is https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/firefox?as=u&utm_source=inproduct#search I would like to be able to move between pages without using the mouse using a keyboard shortcut.

Is there any way that Firefox could simulate a mouse click on a particular element and link this to a key?

As a privacy-conscious user, I always worry about the 'Save As' dialog, and especially the 'Upload' dialog.

I know the Upload dialog enables websites to perform certain operations of files without even uploading them.

Can anyone please clarify: How much access to my computer do these dialogs give websites? Can they see all the files in the selected folder, even files I haven't selected? Can they look inside sub-folders, or even the parent folders? Can they tell the full path of the directory? Do they know my PC name?

I want to be sure.

My Firefox is up-to-date (107.0.1), and it was working fine for some time but suddenly websites started to unload or partially load and so slow. I thought it was a connection problem but then I realized things work fine with Chrome (which I'm using now to type this). I checked the help articles about the possibility of being blocked by a firewall or anti-virus, and I did add Firefox in the exceptions for both, and I made many reboots, and still Fiirefox is not working and not loading the pages quickly (if at all). I even reduced the security level in Firefox settings and picked the "No Proxy" option, and disabled my anti-virus (Avast) completely, but nothing works at all. It was fine just yesterday.

I use Win7 64bit

Tips please? Thanks.

Having read so many posts I can not find answer to this one! Running ESR 102.5 and accessing a Synology NAS on a LAN with direct IP (eg 192.168.1.77) usings https:\\192.168.1.77:port number

Usually use an old Firefox (52.9 ESR) for LAN traffic as last version that allows notes against bookmarks. No issues with accessing the NAS.

On using 102.5 with the https:\\ entry it ALWAYS brings up "Warning - Potential...risk ahead" and then gives the standard SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER because of course it is looking for an IP ADDRESS and you can not create a certicate for an IP ADDRESS!

This is very, very annoying every time loggng in (cache etc cleared on all exits) and older versions you could add security exceptions.

have changed the preference:- security.insecure_field_warning.contextual.enabled = false but does nothing.

Is there any way to remove this annoying fault of IP addresses as a LAN in not a secuirty isssue?

Suggestions welcomed! Thanks

For the last several weeks, the reliability of Firefox has went off a cliff following an auto-update. After a few hours of browsing, it gets to the point where the tabs load extremely slow (or not at all). When this happens, I exit and relaunch.

Previously, it would be nearly instantaneously where the windows would close and the firefox.exe process would cease within seconds. Now, it's taking upwards of 5-10 minutes for the process to stop AFTER the windows have closed and, during that time, it'll bring the system to a near crawl. Once the process finally closes though, everything is back to working fine.
