Feedback or Requests to Firefox devs: Update Firefox Update system for platform specific releases

I request a new FireFox update system be adopted. For platform specific releases, the version checker first checks to see if a particular letter (or number) exists, if yes and the version is different (or higher) it becomes a platform specific sub-version release. Example: for Windows specific releases, the version-checker looks to see if ‘w’ exists, if yes it is Windows platform specific. If not but the version is different or higher then it is a universal update. Same principle applied to each platform. This means mac & linux users are not being nagged multiple times a day to update to a version that has no applicable changes to it for their platform. At least two of the previous three updates have been Windows specific updates, not applicable to other platforms. By the looks, some of these minor updates might only apply to 1.2% (or much less) of Windows users whom actually use that tool or function. This update system change is so simplistic and should only require one extra line of code in the update-checker. Of course, platform specific devs would need to remember to add the platform specific key to the version of the sub-version release and also the version file online.

I’ve been wanting to make this request for a while but the FireFox Feedback option has been disabled for a period of time. Any other avenues to make this request?

Update 89.0 changed the browser theme to something I don't like, too pale and pastel. Options to change back to what I had aren't available. The options presented are now uglier than this sick looking theme.

How do I undo 89.0 update? Pretty much looks like (from release notes on another post) 89.0 has nothing at all to do with security and it's just someone at Firefox wanting to change things just for the sake of changing things.

I hope Firefox isn't going to start doing silly things like moving the first floor to the second floor and the second floor to the first floor just because some administrator feels like it.

How can I restore the old style of highlighting text--grey background behind black text? It's being highlighted, but I can't see it. Happening with Firefox and Thunderbird.

This happened when I more-or-less simultaneously updated to macOS Mojave (10.14.6}, Firefox 89, and is also happening with Thunderbird (but I can't tie it to any specific update).

Is this an issue with Firefox and Thunderbird, or with Mojave?

jscher has been very helpful with my intense dislike of Version 89, but in the last few days, something changed here and I can't get back into that discussion.

I updated my upstairs PC to 89, then was absolutely horrified when I saw it. It's ugly. There is little to no differentiation between the different parts of the screen. My Bookmarks list had so much extra white space added that I had to scroll down three screens to see it all - it used to fit on one page.

You made the type smaller and the bubbles larger.

You changed the ENTIRE Options menu so it's now hard to find what I want, and some functions have been removed.

Also, your STOP POPUPS no longer works AT ALL. I am being inundated with them.

I was so angry at this terrible Facebook-like new version that I deleted FF completely, ran CCleaner and re-loaded Version 88. Of course I lost all my favorites while doing this. When I went back upstairs a few hours later, the update was re-done WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. Very sneaky.

I found out how to shut off all the Proton stuff, so I can now use FF upstairs. I see tons of "fixes" using CSS stuff, which I am not comfortable using. A browser should make these options EASY!

You say this is a "new, clean look." You didn't take into consideration that many users like the way it looked before, and don't want to re-learn an entire new program. Please add back in choices for those of us who are not IT geek coders and just need a simple, FUNCTIONING browser.

I've lost all my history prior to the current date. I think yesterday too, I only had the days history and nothing else. This may have started with the new firefox update, but I'm not sure, I wasn't paying attention. It's not in my settings to delete history every time I close firefox. All my bookmarks are still there, its just a problem with my browsing history. It seems like the "recently closed tabs" keeps better track of the days history than my actual history tab. I'll probably lose todays history tomorrow. Not sure why this is happening~~ help

I really dislike the new version of Firefox - as with everything these days, it seems to be tablet/phone-oriented whilst I continue to be a PC dinosaur.

For example, some websites are now showing up with hefty vertical borders ... and particularly annoying for me is the leading (i.e. vertical spacing) on the dropdowns, especially Bookmarks which I use frequently. The fact that it's so much 'spacier' means that I have a lot more scrolling down to do!

I've stuck with Firefox through thick and thin over many years now, but if there isn't some way to change this - or revert (permanently - i.e. not to be thrown into the air again at the next update) - I'll be seriously thinking of jumping ship to the evil Chrome or Edge.

Any advice welcome!

I realize now if I don't immediately allow updates then my ability to start up my computer after shutting down is delayed for ... an hour or more. I don't want to allow updates, as they are becoming more frequent; i can only assume they are in league with the likes of a microsoft update which is, essentially, a fishing device to scan my computer to record my searches and communications so they might sell that information, or, for other more nefarious reasons. i HAVE stopped the ability to update from Windows - internally. Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean "they're" not out to get me, right? Funny, huh? There's one other thing, however. I can't communicate with customers. And when I can't communicate with customers, I LOSE MONEY. ... fix it. I don't mean a patch over a patch over another patch. Maybe a line of code? Anybody there?? That's what I thought.

Latest update installed and lo and behold, once again Mozilla screwed it up. I now have one tab on the bottom of the page instead of many in a toolbar at the top of the page. Mozilla continues to ignore users' complaints about tab location preferences and other tab functionality and arbitrarily making decisions which for most people make no sense. This latest iteration of Firefox (89.0) is for me the last straw. I will no longer humor Mozilla by spending countless frustrating hours correcting your obvious lack of programming skills by attempting to return my browser to what it was prior to another faulty update. My patience has finally run out. Before I leave Mozilla and Firefox, one last comment. Because the Mozilla support forum relies on amateurs and volunteers to answer users questions, and since I have had trouble getting workable solutions to my problems, I tried to send feedback directly to Mozilla. That was a monumental task which I was not up to, obviously, which is why I'm here. Whatever good there is in Firefox is far out weighed by the lack of programming skills, beta testing, quality control, etc. prior to forcing out updates to it's users. Like many recent users I have decided to forego further use of the Firefox browser which is unreliable from a development team which does not seem to care. I am beginning to wonder if the continuing screw ups are being deliberately caused by embedded saboteurs from Google or Microsoft!

REGARDING THE APPEARANCE OF FIREFOX GUI AFTER AN UPDATE TO THE NEW RELEASE

Everyone hates the look of the update to 89. We don't seem to have any way to make it look NORMAL again.

Why don't updates come with a working theme option that emulates the previous release?

I have read dozens of complaints and zero simple solutions. ZERO.

I want a simple solution but downgrading to 88 forever is not the simple solution.

I have been using Firefox for a long time. I have promoted it to thousands. If I can't find a suitable solution here soon then I will start using a browser that functions adequately for me. In general, if current development is indifferent to a disruptive visual change to the way that I can view my screen then I no longer intend to use or promote Firefox any longer.

This is a serious and an unacceptable problem for many so think twice before you respond to this if you expect our loyalty.

We ask for an "idiot-proof" solution.
