I have a linux debian 11 o/s with up-to-date Firefox I don’t know which version at the moment it is whatever debian repo pushes down. I have 5 profiles on this particular computer with no previous issues. I decided to create another profile to be used for some test work and when I created it I then launched it and opened a few tabs to make sure it worked then closed. I planned on copying the profile files from another profile into this one so I went to the profile folder - /home/user/.mozilla/firefox/profile.names

Once there I saw my other profiles but could not locate this one so I went back to an open browser where I had the about:profiles page open and decided to delete that new profile and start over I figured maybe I accidentally saved it to a different directory. I hit remove it and it gave me the box asking if I wanted to remove files I chose yes I then go back to - /home/user/.mozilla/firefox but folder firefox was gone with all of my profiles all that was left in .mozilla was - /home/user/.mozilla/extensions and - /home/user/.mozilla/systemextensionsdev. Both of these folders - “extensions” as well as “systemextensionsdev” are empty. I go to the local directory for each profile and the data is still there for each of the profiles - /home/user/.cache/mozilla/firefox/profile.name.

The recycle bin is empty. A system-wide search for the profiles comes up with just the ones in the .cache folder. Back at the about:profiles page any attempt to open the preexisting profile results in a prompt asking me to create a new profile. I still have the one profile open and the addons are not working correctly. I did a bookmark export on this profile and doing so generated the “firefox” folder that had disappeared plus a profile folder using the same name of this open profile - /home/user/.mozilla/firefox'profile.name - it created a profile folder for this open profile using the correct name.

Any ideas on how this happened? Can the local profiles still in .cache be used to somehow restore the full profiles?

I am experiencing problems when using Duolingo, which is highly interactive.

This same problem was highlighted in Version 95.0.2 from a Windows user. The waveforms on System Monitor/ Resources are the same.

I am using Fedora and have 16GB ram. Have just ordered another 16GB ram, but think this problem is so severe that no amount of ram will fix it.

I was using Ctrl+K on some websites to do things like site-specific search, task bars, and so forth, but recently Firefox started capturing it for focusing on the search/address bar (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-perform-firefox-tasks-quickly#w_search).

Is there a way to unbind `Ctrl+K` in Firefox?

Firefox 100.0 Ubuntu 22.04 Mozilla VPN 2.8.0

As the title says, Multi-Account containers doesn't detect the VPN, which means that it's not setting the VPN for specific containers.

I suspect this is actually a problem with the "Allow extension to exchange messages with programs other than Firefox" permission. Could be a VPN issue, but gut feeling that it's a Firefox issue, TBH

Anyone else seeing this?

Firefox will only open in Safe mode, previously it was working but now it's not.

I have Ubuntu 22.04 Firefox version 99.0.1 (64-bit)

When I try to open it in command line, it's also only opening in safe mode but I do also get some error messages that I've included below.

So what does all this stuff below from the command line actually mean? And how do I fix it?

Hi,

I hope you are well.

I have set up 11 custom devices that max the min and max sizes of bootstrap grid system (xs-min-360w, xs-max-575, etc) to aid me with checking my website on various screen sizes. Is there anyway to export this list or better still to synch them with my Firefox account so I don't lose these settings?

I am using Firefox Developer Edition (101.0b6 (64-bit)) on Ubuntu 20.04.

Many thanks Kaz

Hello,

I am the developer of the "FlagCookies" - add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/flag-cookies/

I would like to make a request to include "window id" and "tab id" in the cookie "onCookieChanged" -Event triggered dynamically.

At the present state it is not possible to identify where a cookie is originating from, only the "cookies.cookie" values, but no values for "Window" and "Tab Id" which would dramatically help to assign a cookie to a particular domain even if the "cookie.originURL" or "cookie.url" is different from the surfed on website.

As an example, you can visit "https://freenet.de" which loads different ad trackers - which cookies are displayed as "Cross Origin" in Flag Cookies. A screenshot is attached.

In case you need clarification or more information, please let me know.

I just want to be able to access those sites with DRM overlordship getting in the way. I am an old man who is simple-minded, that is, not 18 years and adept at whizzing around laptops.

I've been successfully using firefox-esr on Raspbian GNU/Linux 10 on a Raspberry PI 3+.

Today Firefox crashed at startup. I created a new profile and it initially worked, but crashed when signed in to Firefox sync.

When I hold down Shift, Firefox still crashes, before the Troubleshooting popup appears.

Crash ID is bp-8173e68c-dc1c-44ee-bffe-25cd60220604

The firefox-esr APT package version is 91.9.1esr-1~deb10u1+rpi1 armhf

Any suggestions?

Hi, I recently had to upgrade my Linux system and Firefox along with it. I am trying to find my bookmark properties or description or comment field with important information that is not kept anywhere else. I found a couple old questions that I thought might be related to this but again they are old:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1233031 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1232448

So this is a new question as the others were locked. I tried doing what was listed in them to make a backup/export but looking at the html only shows the book mark and no other fields related to the them. The bookmark-notes add-on is 4 years old so I don't know if that would help me get my stored information. This is causing me lots of problems. Please advise.

I saw where this was a problem with Netflix, Amazon Video and other sites with Fire Fox and that one person even used professional version and still had the same problem.

What I cannot see is where he got the video codex that allow Netflix to work on Fire Fox version 88, let alone this newest version that Mozilla has created.

This is so strange as to be almost unbelieveable. It began as a profile issue. Everything is okay now, but there was much weirdness. I think this is a worthwhile read and I'm eager to hear any ideas regarding what happened.

The bottom line: If Firefox changed the name of a mount point, that was/is a bad idea -- developers take note.

I run Firefox (latest) in a Linux Mint Guest inside a VirtualBox virtual machine with a Windows Host. The Firefox application is installed as usual, but the profile is here: 'FireFox Profile.vhd' -- a virtual USB that, on VM boot, VBox mounts here: '/media/mark/FireFox Profile/'.

The profile is: '/media/mark/FireFox Profile/mwad0hks.default/'.

Events: 1 - In a proven Linux Mint VM, today I booted the VM as usual but Firefox apparently lost my bookmarks & history. Why? I'll probably never know. 2 - I created a new profile hoping that in the process, I'd be given the option to use an existing profile -- no dice, FF created a new, blank profile. 3 - I discovered that I now had these: 3.1 - '/media/mark/FireFox Profile/', and 3.2 - '/media/mark/FireFox Profile1/'. 4 - I closed FF, launched Nemo, and tried to delete 'FireFox Profile1' but was refused. 5 - After much fiddling of the contents of 'FireFox Profile.vhd' mounted in Windows (to make it accessable outside the VM) I backed up 'FireFox Profile.vhd' -- good thing I did that. 6 - I realized that the mount point must have been renamed from '/media/mark/FireFox Profile/' to '/media/mark/FireFox Profile1/'. 7 - Sure enough, I launched the VM and deleted '/media/mark/FireFox Profile/' -- remember that '/media/mark/FireFox Profile1/' could not be deleted. 8 - So I concluded that "something" must have renamed the Linux VM mount point from '/media/mark/FireFox Profile/' to '/media/mark/FireFox Profile1/'.

I conclude that FF must have done the renaming in step 2.

I launched the Linux VM aiming to search how to rename the mount point back to its original name and low and behold, FF now found the correct profile and everything was happiness again. End of story. Or is it?

Yes, I know I was only just complaining about all my logins being lost when I start firefox. This is (to me) a different question.

Ok, I get it, security is important and remaining logged in is usually a good idea. But as I am one person and it is my machine......

But there is a twist to this.

Places like shops / e-bay / amazon / etc.....

I log into them, do my stuff, and close the tab/window.

The log ins are kept.

(Side story) I seldom / never "quit" Firefox. As is, I turn on the machine. If/when needed I start firefox and that's that. When I'm done I just shut down the machine. (firefox still "running".)

Next time I turn on and start firefox, things are as I left them.

That is the ideal situation for me.

I've since discovered that there are a few ways to "exit" firefox.

FILE/QUIT quits firefox. Menu/QUIT does the same. But if I go through and close the windows: that's a whole other story. Likewise if I go out of firefox, RMB on the icon and say QUIT.

So, how do I make sure that if/when I close a tab (I'll keep it at that level as that is what is logged into the site, not necessarily the window) the cookies are wiped?

In the settings/privacy / TRACKING I have CUSTOM set, with all the boxes ticked. DO NOT TRACK is set to ALWAYS Alas (due to local reasons) I have Don’t enable HTTPS-Only Mode set.

What am I missing? Thanks in advance.
