I-Firefox Isithangami Sokwesekwa

I have read all the applicable "troubleshooting" articles, re-set Firefox to the defaults, deleted the cache, etc. Have not been able to open any downloaded file from any source (including the newest Java and Firefox 17.0) and cannot find the downloaded file again except from the Firefox tools/download window. Even when I see the file in the download window, neither the icon nor the filename is active for double-clicking. Right-clicking shows the "open" and "open folder" options but they are greyed out.

How do I find out the updates or features of new version of Firefox? I went to mozilla web site http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ and clicked on what's new and it took me to the download page?

I asked before and got no answer so I am trying again. This occurs with any version i have downloaded above ver. 14.1. Every time i start up Firefox before the browser window opens there is a popup box that says it is checking the compatibility of my addons. I am not a fan of tabbed browsing so i use multiple windows. Any time I open Firefox the compatibility checker runs. I can not figure out how to prevent this from running. I am able to keep it off my system as long as I do not upgrade above version 14.1. The result is I have had to set Updates to never check to avoidbeing bombarded multiple times a day by Mozilla with the message that updates/upgrades for Firefox are available.

I have tried everything I can think of to download a higher version and not to have this feature, including doing custom installs and unchecking the maint. service box. But no matter what I have tried the popup addon checker is still there. Since I do not allow any programs or sites to update automatically, except for security software, I am not willing to update beyond 14.1 until I can prevent the addon checker from running without permission.

Is there any way to disable this function in versions above 14.1?

I bought a new PC with WIndows 8 and although I love it, I'm finding that Firefox seems to only run in the desktop mode and I'm trying to find an app in the Windows shop or something that will run in Windows 8 like all the other programs, similar to IE. Is there one that I'm not seeing or is that in the works?

I came across information that Firefox has turned off the development for Windows 64-bit. Since that's my system I'd like to know what does this imply. Should we uninstall Firefox? Is there anyway we could still be using it? I'm not a computer savvy at all, so I really don't know what to expect nor where to find information that's accurate about it. I really like Firefox and don't want to switch browsers, but I wouldn't like to get the nasty surprise that one day I can no longer open the browser and lose all my information without a warning. I save lots of important information, should I transfer this to another browser Asap?

I have been having trouble with some orders I have made online. The webmaster from one online store told me I should be regularly deleting the temporary Internet/cache files. Is this accurate? I know when I do this with Safari, some banking websites want me to enter my passwords again because they say I am using a compute that has not visited this website before. As far as my problem with ordering items online and having problems with the store getting my order, I was told by the webmaster that any good computer practice includes regularly deleting the temporary Internet/cache files. How do I do this on Firefox? I am new to using Firefox. Thanks!

Its so irritating when I'm trying to download a mess of files to be uploaded to a new website. I'm using Aurora 19.0a2

I have old keys in my XP Windows Registry going back for eons. Leave them alone? Should any upgrade have deleted old ones? They appear in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARP Cache.
