Since Windows Insider build 21318 (we need Insiders build for some WSL features), after a few minutes of usage characters start to disappear from the application : pages, menus, etc. Only Firefox triggers this behavior, but once it has started it propagates to other Windows apps. The only solution is to quit Firefox and any affected app and relaunch. Firefox is pretty much unusable at this point.

This bug is very much alike the one reported here : https://support.mozilla.org/fr/questions/1313520

Restarting in safe mode doesn't change behavior : not related to hardware acceleration or add-ons.

Tested with Firefox v87.0 and Nightly. I also checked the described behavior also happens on co-workers computers same model/same configuration (this is on a Dell laptop Precision 7550 with an NVidia Quadro RTX4000).

Firefox keeps going unresponsive after 10 to 30 minutes. I tried creating a new places thing. It didn't work, and oddly still let me restore my old session and kept my bookmarks, which it said I'd have to re-install. I'm only running two extensions, U-block and NoScript. It will go Unresponsive, remain so far minutes at a time, briefly return and then immediately go unresponsive again, just long enough for me to close a tab or shut down. Nothing I have done seems to fix this. I am on the latest Windows 10, Desktop, latest Firefox.

hello there and good evening:3 my husband and i are having this repetitive and extremely frequent bright yellow pop up with a robot that states "a webpage might be slowing down your browser." then the option to wait, or stop it. i've ran out of patience with this notification to the point to where even though i'de hate to, i would have no choice but to switch back to chrome just to stop being spammed by this pop up while im trying to relax. it happens more frequently on youtube and walmart.com, and i just want it to stop because it seems as if when it does show up, once it starts it never stops, and it actually slows down my webpage to the point of becoming unresponsive and stalling/crashing my only webpage open at the time. my husband has the same issue and we both use windows desktop. it only started appearing after the latest update. please, can someone help me make this thing go away? its very stressful and i cant browse in peace anymore on firefox. yes we have turned off all background processes, and we both have scowered settings troubleshooting for hours at a time to no avail, it just never stops and it behaving like a really bad bug.

I'm trying to better understand why a certain website I frequent online seems broken or something with the level of tracking protection I have enabled with the main page working fine then the stories pages being spread out or something rather than what it was supposed to be like if this helps. I'm not able to read the story easily and have to scroll down over and over again and sometimes, the webpage won't allow me to go down on the page as well. I'm not too sure if that's because of the tracking protection level I have enabled and how to get around this if so rather than having to go back to the standard level. Feel free to share your thoughts sometime. Thank you in advance if you reply to this.

After installing the Native MathML extension (to get MathML typeset equations on the Wikipedia, as suggested on mediawiki.org), all equations set by MathJax/MathML turned to using STIX instead of Latin Modern. I'd like them to stick to Latin Modern instead.

The only possibly related setting I've found is `font.name-list.serif.x-math` in about:config, whose value is `Latin Modern Math, STIX Two Math, […]`. I tried to manually change the font family specification of some text to see if Firefox could use Latin Modern Math to begin with, but apparently it can't (see first screenshot attached), while it loads STIX allright (second screenshot). Latin Modern is not the first locally installed typeface I haven't been able to use, but it's the first one I have really tried to (I don't remember which one the other typeface was).

My Latin Modern font comes from TeX Live 2019 installed using the TUG installer, not Fedora's package manager. `fc-list | grep -i "latin modern math"` returns `/usr/local/texlive/2019/texmf-dist/fonts/opentype/public/lm-math/latinmodern-math.otf: Latin Modern Math:style=Regular`. I'm running Firefox 87 on Fedora 33.

Hi,

I had to delete all my profiles and completely reinstall Firefox because Firefox was not changing the color of previous websites to purple no matter what I tried. I thought I could delete the profiles and create a brand new one to start over fresh.

After reinstalling Firefox (latest version) I have run into a problem where under <about:addons> <Plugins> it shows a yellow box and an error saying "Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc. will be installed shortly".

This message won't go away and Widevine will not be installed at all. I cannot browse and Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max etc.

I have tried unchecking and checking the <Play DRM-controlled content> under <about:preferences> which does not work.

I have also tried going to this (link)link and manually installing it but the webpage for my OS's .zip file won't load for me.

You can work around the issue by stopping the video currently playing in the YouTube tab before navigating away from its page.

I suspected the usual problem of hardware acceleration / video drivers and Firefox not playing nice, but thanks to the PortableApps.com Firefox builds and their version archive, I was able to confirm that it only happens on Release 86 and newer.

Since it's reproducible with the PortableApps builds, settings/profile/cookies etc., it seems pretty clear it's an issue with Firefox proper.

I've downgraded my main Firefox installation to 85.0.2 for the time being and am enjoying snappy YouTube without hangs again.

Anybody happen to know if that bug is already known / under triage or should I get comfortable with the idea of having to downgrade to and using Firefox ESR for a while?

Whenever I click the Firefox browser icon, it will start up, and then close a second later. I have tried reinstalling the program, yet this doesn’t fix the problem. I saw a crash report the last time that it worked and ignored it. Is there a way to bring it back up? I tried to do it myself while running it as an administrator, but that didn’t work either.

Hello!

My Firefox stopped working this evening and I can't figure out why. When I open it, it shows a tiny, blank window for a fraction of a second and does nothing. I did some digging and this is what I found.

- Firefox Safe Mode doesn't start - Profile Manager doesn't work - Opera has the same problem - Restarting my computer didn't work - Reinstalling didn't work - Restarting and Reinstalling didn't work - I don't have CCleaner so that's not an issue - I went into my OSDrive to hunt and delete every folder labelled Mozilla I could find and that didn't change anything on reinstallation - The link I used to download the installer is: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

Any suggestions? I saw a forum post that suggested a faulty value somewhere in the Windows Registry (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser_will_not_start_up#No_Mozilla_applications_will_start), but the link it cites doesn't work anymore and I would prefer not to go Registry diving if I don't have to. Thanks and let me know if you need anything else.

When copying an image from another program, such as Snagit or powerpoint into gmail using firefox, I get two identical copies of the image.

When copying formatted text from Powerpoint to gmail, the text also shows up twice -- once with the formatting, and once without the special formatting.

However, when copying text from Word to gmail, the text only shows up once -- with the formatting.

This does not happen with Chrome.

It does not happen when copying the image or text into another microsoft program like word. It only happens in Firefox.

I have refreshed Firefox, disabled add-ins, and cleared cache. Nothing helps.

Please advise on how to stop this from happening when copying an image or formatted text.

This problem has only started in the last couple of weeks. I am using Firefox Version 87.0 Build ID 20210318103112

with Windows 10.

When opening Firefox, it closes immediately

Hi!

My system:

  • Win 10 64 Bit Desktop, completely up-to-date
  • Two windows user accounts: one admin account and one standard user account
  • using Windows defender / firewall only (NO third party virus scanner / firewall)
  • Firefox 87.0

The last day, Firefox worked without noticeable problems. Nothing special happened. However, on the next morning, the problems appeared all of a sudden on the windows standard user account (The windows admin account is NOT affected by the problem):

When clicking the Firefox icon, the Firefox window appears for a split second and then disappears. In Task Manager one can see the firefox.exe processes appearing and disappearing again. It seems that firefox closes itself or is closed by anything else right after startup.

There is no crash, no error message, no crash report. It is simply impossible to start firefox.exe, no matter in which way I try it:

  1. Same problem when trying to start in private window mode or in safe mode.
  2. Same problem when trying to start profile manager.
  3. Same problem when trying to start firefox.exe from windows explorer.

I already tried all the standard solutions, but nothing helped:

  1. Uninstall 64-Bit Firefox and reinstalled 64-Bit Firefox
  2. Uninstall 64-Bit Firefox and reinstalled 32-Bit Firefox
  3. I deleted all mozilla folders in all subfolders of %User%\AppData and also cleared any temporary files there (this should delete all user profile data and all extensions)
  4. I did a complete virus/malware scan using ten different malware/virus scanners (MalwareBytes, Adwcleaner, TDSSKiller, MSERT, Sophos, F-Secure, Kaspersky, Bitdefender, Windows Defender, ESET), some of them started from external boot media (i.e. they worked without the need to start Windows). Nothing has been detected.
  5. Disabling Windows Defender and Firewall as far as possible (meanwhile, I installed Bitdefender, so Windows Defender / Firewall are replaced)

I did a closer look using ProcessMonitor64, but I could not figure out any abnormalities (maybe you can give me hint what to look for?)

What I discovered:

  1. Renaming firefox.exe to anything else (e.g. firefox1.exe) makes it work (but this is not a solution of the problem because Firefox updates will no longer work then)
  2. The user of that PC starts Firefox by double clicking on the task bar icon. Usually, a simple click is sufficient. Could the problem be caused by a too slow double click (= interpreted as two single clicks) and a concurring start of two Firefox instances?

Any ideas?
