Hello,

How can choose a default profile forever ?

I'd like to set a profile as the default one but whenever I open another profile, Firefox sets it as the new default profile so when I open a link, it opens it in the new one instead of the default profile I've set.

I've tried to set the profile.ini file as read-only but Firefox crashes when opening a new instance.

Thank you.

Regards,

The folder icons were present in past releases, so it appears to be this release. Is anyone else experiencing this?

My favoured browser is Firefox on a MacBook Pro mid 2010 with external monitor attached! It plays embedded video better than any chrome browser I have tried with no jitter! However with certain websites and in particular MSNBC News website, the video stream launches as expected and like chrome browsers takes a few seconds to adjust up the resolution and smooth out jaggies but then the video stops and audio continues! Refreshing the page solves the problem! This does not happen on chrome based browsers (although on my Mac, they don't play embedded viseo as well as Firefox! Using 80.0.1 Any thoughts?

Version 80.0.1 on 2 W10 updated machines. When I use Firefox on my PC at work I always find double, triple sometimes even more links on the main root and on different sub-directories. I clean and re-organize but when at home I have the same problem and the day after at work the same again. It seems like it syncronizes from some old sessions mixing them up together instead of doing it from the last session only. Even old links that I don't use anymore are appearing 2,3 4 times. Any idea?

My browser shows a triangle in the top right corner of the screen. A click there states "Reconnect to Firefox Account". On attempting this action, after entering my password, I am asked to enter a 6 digit number sent to my email address. Unfortunately this takes more that 30 minutes to arrive at this far corner of the Earth but it states that it expires in 5 minutes. On entering the received 6 digit number, I get a message that it has expired and my attempt at reconnecting is terminated. I have tried this exercise 2 or 3 times, days apart but to no avail. Where do I go from here ?

Please note that my question is not about preserving preferences. I've searched and found many Q&A threads on preference preservation, but I don't think that is my problem or issue.

What I'd like to do is to make some Ubuntu desktop menu shortcuts to launch specific web-based apps, in individual windows (I suppose separate instances and new-window) of specific size, with a given specific URL, hopefully with it's own icon, sort-of replacement of desktop apps. So in the Desktop menu I should be able to see 'Google Meet' (for instance) as an application with it's own icon, but clicking it launches Firefox with Google Meet's URL, and a window that is just 800x600 in size.

However, when I try to launch windows on Ubuntu MATE (also tried Lubuntu, and standard Ubuntu... all 20.04), firefox seems to ignore --window-size command line parameter, and all new windows are of exactly same size, which is the default size apparently, ignoring the command-line parameter. What gives ? How can I do what I am trying to as explained above (from firefox standpoint... I know how to create Ubuntu .desktop file etc.).

cheers, B

Hi all, Camera/mic work (Logitech HD Pro C920 camera) and are plugged in.

Running Windows 10 on a PC/Ryzen 2500 processor.

I've located all the "Permissions" dialogs I can find.

  1. Permissions for cam/mic are set to "Use Default" - Facebook error "please allow access (cam + mic)
  2. Permissions for cam/mic are set to "Allow" - same error
  3. Permissions for cam/mic are set to "Ask me every time" - then "Use Default" box is automatically checked.

Firefox is updated (as of today) as is Windows 10.

Does Facebook.com have controls contained within the app under "settings" or something?

Thanks so much for any help.

Firefox 80.0.1 keeps running in the background, eating up my dial-up speed. This happened after loading this latest version. When starting a new session, I let the pre-fetching stop, and then browse. This used to work well, but not anymore.

Before 80.0.1 came out, you folks had me eliminate some pre-fetching which worked well with earlier versions, but I can find nothing on-line about this new version and what is causing it. It starts periodically during a session, and then stops, and starts again, seemingly at random. With a dial-up, this is almost unusable. Any ideas?

Am using Firefox 80.0.1 (newly updated) and Linux Mint 18.3. I have a problem with HTML5 and also codecs problems on at least two other sites (my daily newspaper and The Register). The problem existed even in the previous Firefox version. If I use Chromium these videos work. The newspaper problems give the message that the browser can't play any of the available formats - code 12. I checked the web console ans there were many messages. I had logging allowed and set to the clipboard (gpaste) but nothing turned up there. I did a screen shot which is a png. I copied the results here. Missing codecs video/mp4; cidecs="avc1.42E01E mpra.40.2". This works in Chromium. As far as I understand HTML5 should work in Firefox. I've seen 2 places where it doesn't: live streaming from World Science Festival and from metopera.com. I've seen the problem once on youtube however I could view the same video later with no problem. As for the missing codecs I can live with using Chromium in the 2 cases the problem has shown up. But I would like some clarification on the HTML problem.

Greetings - I am using Firefox on Ubuntu 20.04.1. When I try to log on to a secured DoD site, I get the certificate selection pop-up. Normally, only two of three certificates are displayed. I used to be able to select the first certificate without error but the DoD recently changed their requirements. Now, the same certificates are displayed but the one I need is not displayed. How do I edit that window to display all certificates on the CAC card? Thank you for your time.

I use a Logitech MX Master mouse as my primary pointing device on my laptop (2015 MacBook Air). I use Logitech's options software (Logi Options) to set custom bindings for the buttons on the mouse. I have what would typically be considered the forward/back page keys to adjust volume up and down, a scroll wheel click is still just Mouse 3, and the gesture button on the side of the mouse is set to zoom in/out with the scroll wheel while it is depressed.

Firefox is the only browser that doesn't support the inputs from my mouse. How do I correct this?

Thanks!

I'm seeing breakthrough of the background when Firefox is open on my second monitor.

This seems to occur when the window on the secondary monitor is minimised, then maximised and mouse over the image on the secondary monitor (second is right hand side) - see image.

Initially I thought this was a graphics issue but this does not occur when I repeat the steps with other applications. I have also tried it with Chrome and Chrome does not display the same behaviour. I do not see this behaviour on the primary monitor.

I have reduced the refresh rate from 144Hz to 60Hz and reset Firefox which has not cured the issue. It appears to me that the only application that exhibits this behaviour on this machine is Firefox.

I also started to see this occur on my previous machine which was based on Mint 17 and a different Nvidia GPU and monitors and had been stable for many years.

If there is any further information I can provide, please let me know as I'm loathed to change from Firefox as I've been a fan for many years.

Starting last night, I have noticed that random tabs get "stuck" and I am unable to click on them to activate the page or close them.

Other tabs are unaffected and after about 30 seconds, the affected tab will become responsive.

I have noticed that the problem always occurs on the same tabs once the problem starts, and will continue to affect that tab if I navigate to a different website.

I have not added any additional add-ins and have tried disabling existing add-ins, without success.

Could someone please provide some methode to fix this issue?

I have a new HP printer and I am using Firefox from a Windows 10 PC. I am plagued with Paper Mismatch errors when printing emails from Firefox. After a lot of trouble shooting, I have found that this problem seems to be confined to Firefox, as it does not happen when using other browsers, e.g. MS Edge. I have tried resetting all Firefox printer settings and the problem still happens when opening Firefox in Safe Mode.

The print job stops with the error message Paper Size Mismatch after the 1st page, and printing will not continue or even move on to the next job until the error is cancelled from the printer's control panel. This means I have to be working next to the printer and cannot print remotely.

In the printing dialogue box under Printing Preferences, the paper size shows Letter, whereas I am using A4 in the printer, and this is the mismatch causing the problem. I can change the paper size in Printing Preferences from Letter to A4, but I have to do this for every job seperately as the paper size setting always reverts to Letter. This is totally impracticable.

Regretably, I will have to stop using Firefox unless there is a solution. Can anyone help me to change the paper size setting to always default to A4, please? Thanks in anticipation.
