I am running Firefox 94.0 in a couple of Linux Mint systems.

My main desktop computer, with a 3.8 GHz 6-core AMD Ryzen 5 processor on an MSI B450-A PRO MAX MB with 16 GB RAM, has had Linux Mint 19.3 installed for over a year. Just today, Firefox, which has also been installed in this OS for a long time, exhibited extreme slowness. I did an online search, and found that the slowness was cured by using the Troubleshoot Mode, but none of the suggestions I found solved the problem in normal mode. So, I went into Settings and turned off hardware acceleration. That solved the problem, somewhat ironically. The hardware acceleration seemed to accomplish deceleration instead. So my browser works, but there is something wrong with hardware acceleration in Firefox.

On a new install of Linux Mint 20.04, I recently experienced frequent crashing of Firefox just after clicking on a link. I tried online solutions, which didn't help, but then I turned off - - guess what - - hardware acceleration, and no more crashes. That is what motivated me to turn off hardware acceleration in Firefox on my Linux Mint 19.3 machine today.

I don't really have a problem to solve, but I don't know of a better place to submit a bug report, so I am hoping you will pass this on to the developers.

Last night my Firefox 94.0.2 was hacked. When running Firefox, it would lock up my desktop. It disabled Norton Security, it disable other installed security software, and it disabled Windows System Restore. The hacker put up a message claiming to be Microsoft Support, with a phone number to call for help. This was a scam. I ran Firefox refresh, and that removed the hacker's program from Firefox, but then I had to do a full repair of my Window's installation. To protect my system, and prevent this from happening again, I added "xpinstall.enabled = false" into about.config. Please let me know if this will prevent a web site from installing a dangerous hack into Firefox, or if there is something else that I need to do. I have used Firefox for years, and have never encountered this problem before. Firefox is my favorite browser, but I am now afraid to use it. Please advise me what to do. Thanks, Jim

I've been having an interesting problem with Firefox for the past couple of months regarding only Soundcloud, where after the first visit to the website it won't load, giving a generic "Sorry! Something went wrong" screen. Firefox will continue to not load the site correctly until I clear the cookies and the cache, which works but only for one visit, and as soon as I close the tab and open soundcloud again or refresh the tab the problem comes back. I have disabled all of my extensions as well as enhanced tracking protection when testing. A firefox refresh also did not solve the problem. The only way I can get the site to behave normally is when using private browsing.

The console is filled with errors regarding javascript files (source URI is not allowed in this document).

Thanks

Hi Folks,

I've used Firefox for years with no problem. Yesterday, I was seeking out a specific font. The website looked legit, but then a security block happened and I don't recall if it was Firefox security or Acronis that flashed a brief "block" announcement. In any case, from that point on, several "racey" websites popped up every time I loaded Firefox. This happened even after I restarted my computer. I then checked to see if I had pop-ups blocked on the Firefox options. I didn't, so I checked the box against pop-ups. But what happens now is Firefox does an attempt to load TWICE with an odd jerk-flash movement. Only one Firefox browser window comes up -- and that's good -- but SOMETHING is still trying to make those "racey" websites load. Why? How?

All of that to say that I'm concerned about security. Should I uninstall Firefox and reinstall?

Thanks for your input! Bob Anderson

I believe this info is relevant, but this undated page may be out of date (I am on Windows 10 with 94.0.2 ) -- I do not see the things they refer to:

"Tap the menu button:" which has a URL, a "1" in a box, and a three-vertical-dots array in a red box.

Clicking upper-right-corner icons at random has "disconnected" my account. Just getting in deeper. I bet I have to log in again...

I have tried everything and cannot manage to load any webpage that prompts a reCAPTCHA. The tab immediately crashes.

1- I've tried several webpages. They all work well until a reCAPTCHA pops up, the tab crashes and creates a dump file 2- I tried uninstalling Firefox, including erasing profiles and all Mozilla folders then reinstalling, and selecting refresh. It sill happens. No addons or extensions, and HW acceleration on and off 3- The problems goes away if I run Firefox on Troubleshooting Mode

Version is 94.0.2 (64 bit) running on Windows 10 21H1 on an i7 1165G7

Am I missing something? Is there a way to do a cleaner install?

Thanks for the help!

I was downloading a 3 GB file from Mega. Unfortunately this Mega file hosting web site downloads the file into a temporary location through the browser instead of downloading it like a normal download.

Anyways, while I was downloading, at 54% the download got interrupted saying transfer quota exceeded and I need to wait 4 hours to continue download again. and my girlfriend didn't know this so she thought my download already completed and deleted the file :( After 4 hours of waiting I was unable to continue the download since the file is no longer avaliable anymore :/

Now my question is, where this 1.5 GB file gone? I have already checked %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\myprofile\storage\default\https+++mega.co.nz but it's not there, the folder size is 102 KB. I checked %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\myprofile\storage\temporary too but that folder is completely empty. Also checked AppData\Local\Temp as well but it's not there either. The size of my Temp folder is just 10 MB.

While I was searching this, I saw some people saying (if I understood correct) the temporary download location of Mega isn't in hard drive, but in the RAM instead. I want to ask can anyone confirm is this actually true? and if so what happens to that space in RAM when download interrupts like this? Does it delete it from RAM automatically when I close Firefox?

Can anyone with knowledge in this regard please help me with this problem :( I am on SSD and already have a very few space left and I don't want to clutter my SSD with 1.5 GB unusuable file :(( Neither want 1.5 GB space got occupied in my RAM :((

Thank you so very much in advance.

Hello together.

I'm experiencing the same problem as discussed in this cases that is not solved yet: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1312836 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1333547 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1321038

Symptoms: After FF starting it loads pages fast enough. After several minutes of using pages start be loading very slow. Loading slowness increases until it becomes blocked continuously. Reload button has no effect. I tried everything from here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can - No effect.

Work around done: When windows is loading in Safe Mode the problem disappeared. If I disable Windows Defender Firewall the the problem disappear and appear after firewall enabling again in several minutes (same as after FF restarting) When I go to <current network settings> and switch Network Profile from Public to Private or from Private to Public the problem disappear but goes back just in several minutes (same as after FF restarting). Windows 10 Restorehealth has no effect, and reports that everything is OK with system files (DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth ) The most strange thing Windows 10 In-place Upgrade has no effect.

I found out the core of problem is that Windows Firewall is blocking FF internal interprocess communication on local TCP ports. Yes, you would say it is not possible and firewall doesn't affect local port communication but in my case it is a fact. I used the ProcessMonitor from Windows Sysinternals, and Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security log. Screenshots shows this fact. On first two lines from Firewall log you see a Local Port Communication blocking, on ports 1401 and 1400. Next Screenshot from ProcessMonitor shows (see blue colored lines) that it was exactly FF communication, where I was trying to reload a page several times.

Any ideas what to do with it? It seems like Microsoft’s way fighting a concurrent web browsers, but I hope it isn’t.

Now I use FF version 94 but the problem starts from 88. I was trying FF downgrading to version 75 with no effect.

Good People, Followed screen pop-up to make Firefox default browser. Now all *.pdf files have Firefox icons and open as .html pages, I think! Seen some solutions, but for older versions of windows and followed procedure: go to Adobe, Edit, Preferences, General, 'Select Default PDF Handler', as dialog Does not have Adobe Reader XI, step two was Change to Adobe Reader DC, clicked continue, but NO Windows Configuration Screen appears. Using Version 94.0.2 (64bit) with Windows 10. Also, help answer said not necessarily a Firefox problem, also within Adobe Reader. Not comfortable with changes to be made in the registry. James

Several weeks ago, because it seemed to be a Gmail-tab-only problem, Firefox Support advised us to contact Gmail Support.

It is now clear that the problem is with the Firefox browser. The attached screenshot shows an example of an affected tab.

Please fix this. Multiple versions of the same tab waste RAM and other memory, especially on a limited-memory device such as a laptop.

I have had this issue before and uninstalling and reinstalling has fixed it in the past. Today when I opened firefox it prompted me to update , which I did without thinking. Subsequently, it stopped working. I have tried: restarting my PC, running in troubleshooting mode( it wouldn't even open when I tried this), uninstalling and reinstalling using the internet installer, uninstalling and reinstalling using the offline installer ( tried on multiple hard drives, so I don't think hardware failure is the issue), installing an older version of fire fox, and installing the 32 bit version instead of the 64 bit version. The attached images show what displays upon trying to launch firefox. nothing loads, not typing an address into the search bar, not clicking on a bookmark, the only UI element that will display is the 3 horizontal line setting menu.
