I am trying to implement a policies.json file in 32-bit Firefox 78.6.1 ESR on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. With Firefox not running, I have created a distribution folder as follows:

C:\Program Files(x86)\Mozilla Firefox\distribution

The folder contains a policies.json file with the following script:

{

 "policies": {
 "DisableAppUpdate": true
 }

}

There are no Registry settings concerning this on my computer. Although the computer is joined to a domain, there are no Firefox GPOs in place.

When I run Firefox I do not get any error messages. about:support indicates that the Enterprise policies are active. about:policies only lists a certificate policy; DisableAppUpdate does not appear there. in the Options menu I see "Your browser is being managed by your organization" at the top, but in the Firefox Updates section I still have the two items:

Automatically install updates (recommended) Check for updates but let you choose to install them

The second option is checked.

After creating the policies.json file I expected to see nothing in the Firefox Updates section except a message stating updates have been disabled, and I expected to see DisableAppUpdates listed in about:policies.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

In the age of COVID and a switch to more remote work the dependency on online meetings has increased. The company I work for uses Google Apps for Business and has been using Google Meet for a long time, and I've never had any problems with it not working. Recently though, when I join a meeting using Firefox, nobody can hear me and it appears Firefox is not able to access my microphone. Here's what I've done to test:

1. Reviewed Windows 10 settings to make sure microphone input slider is up. 2. Checked other browsers, running Google Meet using Chrome works fine. (Note: everything was working before and I attempted to use Chrome to try out changing backgrounds. It seems like this is when my problems with Firefox began) 3. I've tested my microphone using https://www.onlinemictest.com/ initially it didn't appear to work, but if I tap on my laptop screen near the microphone I see lines showing activity, but it won't pick up voice. Using this same tool in Chrome works as expected. 4. I tested using Private Mode - Same results. 5. I tried clearing the startup cache - same results. 6. I tried using Safe Mode - same results. 7. Refreshed Firefox (using Troubleshooting Information screen (Refresh Firefox...)

I'm at the end of my rope trying to figure out what's going on, and why it only appears to be Firefox that's having a problem. Other apps like Zoom, and recording video using just the webcam on the computer also works fine.

Any help in getting this figured out would be appreciated. I try not to use Chrome if I don't have to, but switching to Chrome so I can join web meetings is a real pain.

I tried following the instructions on this page:

but my new tabs and homepage still come up as blank white. Is there a way to tell if Firefox is even looking at the css file?

I'm using Windows 7 and Firefox 84.0.2 (64 bit)

Thank you in advance!

When I print it keeps printing on both sides. I changed it to "no" in the printing setting in Firefox but when I exit it keeps going back to 2 sided. That doesn't seem to be the case in other browsers. I tried to follow the advice given here to type in about:config in the address bar but after giving me the warning it just went to a blank page after I clicked to proceed anyway. Any advice I can get would be much appreciated.

Dear all,

I've installed an add-on, "Telephone Number Detection" by "CTI-Telephony", that enables to detect phone numbers on any web page and to trigger a phone app ( ex : Aircall) using the phone numbers detected/clicked.

It works but Firefox always asks me to authorize the use of the phone app (Aircall) so as to open the link produced when clicking on the phone number "Allow this site to open the callto link with Aircall.exe?"

This step is useless since I've already authorized the opening via this application.

Do you any idea oh what options to tag/un-tag so as to avoid this step ?

Best regards,

ET

In one of the recent updates the Page Range box is blank. It used to default to '1' but now defaults to nothing. I often just want to print the first page so I want to change this back.

Where is the option to make this the default? Is there a setting or addon I can use to get this back?

I have been using Firefox and several addons for years. One of the addons that I have been using for a very long time is "Group Seed Dial". I'm extremely happy with it.

This problem began just a few days ago. I leave my computer on all the time and very often (most often) I will walk away from it for the night with a couple of browser windows open and several tabs open in each. A few days ago I simply came back to my computer that morning and clicked on the "+" to open a new tab - this always opens into my Group Speed Dial page. But that did not happen it just opened to my "Home" page (Google search). I tried a different window and the same thing happened, it seemed my Group Speed Dial was gone. I wend to >Tools >Addons and I saw the Group Speed dial in the "disabled" section. So I simply clicked the toggle button to "enable" it and - the speed dial was back just like before. I thought there must have been some glitch and just went on with my day. The problem is, the next day it happened again, and then today it happened again.

I am using Firefox 84.0.1 (64-bit). I am on Windows 10. During the time this has been happening, I have not shut down all browsers, no updates were announced or shown to have happened. I have not shut off my computer, there have been no windows updates.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I'm worried there is a bug or a virus causing this. I use Windows Defender and Malware Bytes Premium.

Thank you.

I'm running Firefox 84.0.2 on Fedora 33. I have just created a couple of profiles via the profile manager, but attempting to start with a specific profile from the command line, like this:

 firefox --profile default

Causes Firefox to complain:

 Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.

Even though:

  • A profile named default exists and is visible in the profile manager.
  • An entry for the default profile exists in ~/.mozilla/firefox/profiles.ini:

[Profile1] Name=default IsRelative=1 Path=8hiuv29u.default

  • The named directory exists:

$ ls -ld ~/.mozilla/firefox/8hiuv29u.default drwx------ 11 lars lars 4096 Jan 12 16:13 /home/lars/.mozilla/firefox/8hiuv29u.default

  • If I start the profile manager, select the "default" profile, and then "Start Firefox", it opens the browser as expected.

This is happening with multiple profiles; not just the default profile. These are all profiles that were just created.

I do not know where to post feedback and the feedback link is down so if someone can get this to the Firefox development team, it would be a great help:

1. Feedback is important and to give it a user has to search this website and come here to write it. The help should be in the drop-down menu or menu items where a user can write to development team. This is in Google Chrome. Can be implemented in Firefox. 2. I never understood why title bar and the address bar are separate. They can be merged. The mass horizontal space in title bar is unused forever. Please implement this. 3. The auto-hide/intel-hide of address-bar and title-bar option is not available to the user. Please make it available. This is available for bookmark though and it is working well. 4. If given a chance the user will not want to see the address in the address bar. Most users have utility of copying the address, not much. Can the address be hidden when user do not want to see it? 5. Modern phones have camera not on the top-left edge nowadays, but in top-center. Similarly the tab should open in the center. The minimum development team could do is to provide user with this option that he only can move it to center. Very good improvement this would be. 6. Word-wise feature of Amazon Kindle + Hard-word meaning show on mouse hover features requested. Few extensions available which are not very good in quality and these features should be default. This will save users time to search for new words, will reduce internet traffic. 7. When I save a dark theme in Nightly using customize option. It stays for few seconds and then reverts back to white theme. This could be a bug. Please investigate it. Thanks.

Firefox 84.0.2 (64-bit) in Ubuntu 18.04

I often load pages with many tabs. These tabs are NOT refreshed when loading, so data may be days old. It's easy to think data is fresh, since Firefox just started, but WRONG !

This wastes lots of time, both in errors and manually restarting each of many tabs.

I need to find how to set Firefox to NOT use old data when it starts. I don't need to refresh every few minutes or hours,, JUST when starting.

HOW do I accomplish this ?!?

Thanks!

My first language is English but I live in France where, for some reason my Google search engine defaults to dot com. This means that I see results from France (good) and bucket-loads from the rest of the world which have no relevance to where I am or what I'm looking for.

I've been through the 'add more search engines' help pages and there is no answer there that I can find. I want to set my default not as google.com (as Google says I have to because I chose the English language) but google.co.uk. So, how do I do this in Firefox please?

Thanks in advance Kevin
