Locking duplicate thread.
Please continue here: [/questions/1091977]

When I search for something on Google using the search bar it says Untrusted Connection, and it doesn't let me "Understand the Risks" and go through. I'm able to get to Google.com but when I search for something it comes up glitched looking (Shows the old Google Logo, etc.) it doesn't let me use the features such as Images, News, Search tools. It automatically goes to Untrusted connection.

Also when I go to Google.com it says Not Secure Connection.

I have tried every way possible to fix this error none of the website work the only one that does is yahoo and they all say the same error

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate.

www.google.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates. An additional root certificate may need to be imported. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

Hi,

I have a spr532 card reader with a test smartcard with Firefox 50.1.0 on Ubuntu 16.04 up to date. I want to use the client certificate from the device to log in on a website that I am developing.

I also have a test certificate that I generated and it is not on the card. I can log in with the test certificate that I have but not with the one on the card. The problem is that in the "User identification request" page I cannot see the certificate from the smartcard. I can see my generated certificate but not the one on the smartcard. Firefox asks me for the pins for the smartcard (I have two certs on the card and they both have PINs). Firefox sees my certs from the smartcard in about:preferences#advanced > View Certificates > Your Certificates column. I have both the certs on the smartcard and the one I generated in that table. But when I try to log in, Firefox only shows me my generated cert and not the one from the smartcard.

What can I do? How can I debug this? This is a dev environment. I can change any configs on the server so I can decrypt the TLS session and see what is going on between my server and the browser.

PS: I tried to send this message with 2 other email accounts but I do not get the confirmation email.

Thank you!

I created a program which adds a certificate to Firefox to communicate with a websocket at localhost. To use it with https, I had to add a certificate to certificate stores, including the one Firefox uses. To Firefox, the command used:

certutil.exe -d [cert8.db path] -A -t "TCu,Cuw,Tuw" -n [name] -i [crt path]

Friday I noticed that it stopped working. I add, no issue reported. I use -L, the certificate is there. I even looked at Tools > Options > Advanced > Certificates, and it is there. But Firefox keep saying it's not trustable. Already closed and opened the browser.

I saw there was a update 13th June. Does it changed something about certificates part?

Switching from Safari to Firefox, I wanted to use the same proxy settings. My first try was to use the system's settings, as it gets automatic proxy configuration from the right URL. This worked alright for Safari! On Firefox however, if I'm connected to the VPN I can access all websites in our VPN, but none outside, as I get the SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER (can't always add an exception) As soon as I exit the VPN, firefox is "unable to find the proxy server".

I've tried all other kinds of ways to connect via that proxy - manually connecting, by URL in firefox or by automatically detecting, but nothing solves my problem. The automatic configuration shouldn't be the problem as it works fine for Safari and shouldn't be any different for Firefox.

I'd really appreciate any help on the subject.

The issue is that Firefox is caching security certificates rather than loading them fresh.

This doesn't become an issue until the cached security certificate expires, then the user faces the "this website is not secure" warning page. The user tries to reload the page multiple times and continues to get the same warning page, then they call me in a panic and say "my website is not loading because it is not secure!"

The solution is Ctrl+F5 and voila the website loads without issue.

However, this is definitely an "issue" and the issue isn't with the website or the lack of knowledge of the end user. End users should not need to know how to refresh their local cache of a website to resolve a security certificate expiring when it has already been renewed. Firefox should by default check for a new security certificate when the cached version has expired or at least that is what would appear to be the logical progression of local caching.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to find a way to report this issue to Firefox developers...so I am reporting it here in hopes that someone in the community has the ear of the development team and can point out this issue.

Thanks, Dr. Pat

I think I deleted a certificate and I can't restore it

I don’t know whether this is a problem with Microsoft office, firefox or my machine, I have already contacted apple support, and they said that it was not my machine. When I contacted Microsoft support, after describing the problem they ended the chat without saying anything. So this is what happened: I was at school. I tried to access my outlook email in firefox. I got an untrusted connection page. On the school wifi, since it restricts certain websites, you have to have a certificate installed in order to access secure (ones with lock icon) websites, I think so that the restrictor thing can see what webpage you are accessing. If it can’t read what you are accessing, it doesn’t let you access the page and you either get an access denied page, or on firefox a “this connection is untrusted” page. Earlier in the year I installed the certificate. for Firefox, I could click on a link that they gave us and it installed itself. for Chrome, I downloaded the certificate and imported it into my keychain. So when I got the connection untrusted page on firefox when trying to access a site that isn’t blocked, my school email, which is outlook/office365, since I had heard rumors about an updated version of the certificate, and having to install the new one, I decided to try reinstalling the certificate in firefox. So I used the wifi hotspot on my phone to go to my school email, the page that I couldn’t access before, I went to the school Sharepoint site for tech stuff, and clicked on the link to download the certificate. It said it was already installed. But it didn’t look like it was working on the school wifi, because I still couldn’t use the wifi to access outlook. So I tried to uninstall the certificate. since it said it was a certificate authority, I went into firefox advanced settings > certificates > certificate authorities and deleted the certificate called Bloxx. I might have forgotten a test here that I tried, but not anything else that I deleted. I found that it still wasn’t working. now I couldn’t access outlook at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox. But the certificate I had deleted wasn’t there. I looked in my keychain, and I saw that there was no certificate called Bloxx in my system roots, but the other certificates I had seen in the firefox settings were there. When I got home, using time machine I backed up my computer so that anything I did from there on could be recovered. I hadn’t had any system backups before that. I saw on apple forums that I should try to reinstall the OS. I reinstalled OS X El Capitan. I can see the certificate I deleted is now there in firefox, but I am on the wifi at home which is not restricted at all, and I cannot access the office365, outlook, or any websites relating to that, even the products.office.com site. It says the connection is untrusted. However, on chrome, everything works.

The user identification request box changed from Firefox 52 to 53. I use a smart card that has multiple certificates, and it is now very difficult to distinguish one from the other when a request is made. In 52, the type of certificate was displayed in the certificate drop-down box. Now in 53 the only noticeable difference between certificates is the serial number, so I have to scroll down in the details section to determine if it's an "e-mail" or "id" certificate.

Is there a way to have the type of certificate displayed in the drop-down box, or change the size of the user identification request box so I can see the relevant info to distinguish the certificates?

Microsoft just updated and now Firefox will not let me open up any web sites, except yours. It will not even let me open my Star One Credit Union account saying it is unsecured. I clicked the box that said exception and now it allows me to open this. However, there are still many sites it will not let me access without declaring an exception.
