Every time I log in with my Firefox account on a new device, the exceptions I set under Privacy & Security -> Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Cookies and Site Data When Firefox Closes -> Manage Exceptions disappear. This should definitely be included in synchronization. Let's be clear: I don't want my cookies saved so I can log into all my accounts every time. I just want my exceptions to be included in synchronization. Firefox could also develop a tool for this: an add-on to easily add websites to exceptions. I don't want to download an external add-on and install it every time for something this simple. Nobody wants that. I also think all my settings should be included in the synchronization scope.

Tried to sign in to Firefox on a Linux laptop; searched for a password and finally found it under "a" for accounts;maybe my error. Tried to sync. bookmarks etc. from Android phone and it suggest two non existent menu options: Sign in and - i've forgotten; Sync between devices maybe; anyway nothing resembling either was in the menu so it is at least satisfying to know you can delete a browser with no concern that anything useful or even functional is to be missed.

Hi,

I recently had to reinstall Firefox. I made sure that settings etc were backed up in my Mozilla account, but I didn't realise that my custom search engines had not been backed up. I have about 20 of these custom search engines for work, so it was a pain to re-apply all of these. It's done now, but I'd like to know if there is a way to back these up for a quick restore on a reinstall?

There is no 'Search Engines' option in my Sync settings.

Thanks

I'm just wondering when developers will get their heads out of their butts, and provide a "one-way sync" for firefox. I'm so fricking annoyed at the sync changing around my setups with bookmarks, passwords, etc when I sync between my primary computer and others that I don't use as often. Is this concept just to difficult too comprehend?

Hi everyone, I’m using multiple Firefox profiles to separate my work environments (e.g., “Work”, “University”, “Personal”), all linked to the same Firefox account.

What I would like to do is:

Use the same Firefox account across multiple profiles to keep extensions, passwords, etc., synchronized.

Sync bookmarks only within the same profile, so that bookmarks from the “Work” profile do not appear in the “University” profile and vice versa.

Continue to be able to edit bookmarks from different devices (home or office) while keeping them synced only within the same profile.

I’ve looked into Firefox settings and sync options, but it seems Firefox syncs everything across all profiles connected to the same account.

My questions:

Is there a native way or any setting to have bookmarks synced separately per profile while using the same account?

If this is not possible at the moment, could this be considered as a potential feature for the future?

Thanks for any suggestions or guidance!

The bar across the top (has "View recent browsing across Windows and devices" at the left end) has far too many remembered tabs. It's only happening on this platform (my wife's) and not on mine. Both running Windows 10, although I'm switching us both to newer platforms because of Windows 11.

There must be some way to turn off that bar in this platform, but I can't understand all the Firefox on-line help documents, because there's no place where there is a diagram indicating what that bar is called.

On windows 10, Firefox Browsing/surfing was slow so I did netsh winsock reset and ip reset etc.

But thereafter few sites in-page notifications aren’t loading properly like facebook notifications, forum notifications, amazon page etc.

Nothing works irrespective of cookie or entire history deletion.

I had to fiddle with the networking settings few months back so unsure what are the stock FF settings- what they should be like. I wasn’t able to find on google.

I did performed a FF refresh and even created a now profile and that works absolutely fine!

But the moment I log into my FF cloud account for re-syncing all add-ons, bookmarks etc and dang the issue reverts. So I think 110% the FF account sync is restoring back the network settings I did some time ago overriding the default ones hence the good up.

All other browsers like edge/chrome are working fine.

What I want is-

   * The default FF network settings which I can correct and re-sync back to my FF cloud account.
   * Or a way to only restore bookmarks and extensions/add-ons and nothing else from the cloud account.

Whenever I install a new system with a GUI — which is quite often as the responsible for the network — it's unavoidable to have Firefox on it since is hit and miss with uBO and the Chromium ones.

Except for the pages that load automatically on install, before I open the first page, and before I enable sync; I make sure to match my settings on other Firefox instances first. I even set several in about:config too; namely anything related to QUIC/HTTP3, encrypted DNS, and this relentless need Firefox has to navigate automatically to the HTTPS version of a domain as if they were always the same site. Technically speaking, they're not even the same server but I digress, when I finally enable sync it reverts all* the settings to defaults again.

I thought this was synced down from somewhere but recently I installed Firefox on an older system, I did the ritual with the settings, the candles, the about:config, the dead cat, y'know… the whole thing, and enabled sync. But what it actually happened was; I only logged in. Sync remained off. It read something like "sync off" in the setting next to the big blue button to turn it on.

Before I click the button, I opened a new window, and went to the settings again to make sure that the settings on the current window weren't stale. I noticed the reversal had already happened. Despite nothing had been synced I already was back to defaults.

I changed them back.

When I clicked on the button, the usual selection of things I sync was already done, I just had to confirm it and that was all. Once it finished, my settings were change to defaults… again! Albeit to a much lesser degree. The password manager turned itself on again, but not all the checkboxes below the main setting, one of the two Recommend, something-something while I browse was turned back on, I think Show search suggestions in address bar results was turned on too, and I don't remember if the settings for Firefox Home were changed, they often are, I don't use it at all, but it's rather easy to accidentally have the shortcuts from that page to prepopulate in the address bar drop down.

There must be one setting that prevents this, on Windows I think I have it under control (Firefox is preinstalled and preconfigured through Active Directory), that would be awesome if anybody actually used Windows, we only have it because our accounts are in Active Directory, but it does prove that it can be controlled. Most of the settings that have disappeared from Firefox are still available to Enterprise administrators and then some …which is a bit telling from the browser that allegedly champions privacy.

I want Firefox to let me navigate to "dangerous sites", so I learn early from my mistakes, not later when these protections have made me careless and it's riskier; to keep remembering on my own to keep my passwords fresh, not have that software crutch that relies on a third party service; to be a browser, not my operative system.

Although I'm not a dev, you can get as technical as you want, no need to dumb it down; if I don't understand it, I will be happy do my homework, just tell me how, please (and thanks.)

  • not all but it feel like it: it's mostly those that use Mozilla's hosted services, I believe, such as the password manager and the like.
