Hi,

It seems that somehow DRM has stopped working in Firefox: as of this morning, I get the message to enable DRM on spotify, netflix and other sites - enabling DRM only yields the message "Firefox is installing components needed to play audio on this site...".

Using Firefox v93 on Manjaro 21.1.6, all up to date

I've tried (in order):

  • made sure "play DRM controlled content" is enabled
  • restarted browser in safe mode
  • refreshed my profile
  • uninstalled Firefox, removed profile folder, reinstalled Firefox
  • tested on a Windows VM with the newest version of Firefox -> works
  • installed the Spotify player as app (snap package) -> works
  • installed Vivaldi browser and DRM content works there too

I don't understand what could have changed - have had no issues when I updated firefox to the latest version a few days ago and changed nothing last night. Simply logged back in today and started seeing this problem.

Any ideas?

There are several things we can sync on Firefox account. I tried to search the limits on storage and TTL for the stored data, but found very few information and threads. I didn't found any official documentation stating related info. These limits are not stated fully and clearly anywhere. So, I asked here again.

What are the storage limits & TTLs for these syncable items :

  • Bookmarks
  • History
  • Add-ons
  • Settings
  • Open Tabs
  • Login Credentials
  • Credit Card info

Also, I found on some thread stating that Firefox sync stores data for 60 days, and Firefox can receive it. But, Firefox cannot send data older than 30 days. Please clarify this behaviour as well.

Thanks in advanced..!

Hey all,

everytime I start Firefox, it automatically displays Nord theme that I was using some time ago.

I want to change that theme to something else, so I switched to the default dark theme. Upon restarting the firefox, the theme gets reset back to Nord. In theme selection settings I can see that the dark theme is enabled, but firefox actually still displays the Nord theme. I'm assuming it's because I have Nord theme synced from my account from my previous pc installs.

To remove the Nord theme I tried to:

  • Switch to a different theme
  • Remove the Nord theme from my themes list, leaving only the default Light, Dark, System and Alpenglow themes.
  • in about:config I have set services.sync.prefs.sync.lightweightThemes to false
  • In firefox settings, under sync, I have unchecked syncing of add-ons.

But firefox still uses the Nord theme upon every start up, regardless of what other theme I chose.

How do I get rid of the Nord theme?

How Can I Make Firefox 93 Stop Asking If I want to Add Second Webmail Service As An Application for Mailto Links?

Greetings to all!

I am experiencing a minor annoyance with Firefox that I would like to resolve before it becomes a major PITA.

I am running Firefox 93 on Linux Mint 20.1. I have email accounts with two different webmail providers: Gmail and ProtonMail. I have Gmail selected as the application I wish to use when I click a mail link on a web page. For the last couple or three months though, when I open my account on Protonmail.com, an extra window appears at the top of the Firefox window which reads

"Add "mail.protonmail.com" as an application for mailto links?" This question is followed by a button labeled "Add application", but no button labeled "No, thank you", or "Bugger off", or anything similar.

I can close the window by simply clicking on the close window X in the upper right corner and that is that, but ONLY for the current session.

What I would like to figure out is the process by which I can 'teach' Firefox that, No! I DO NOT want to add "mail.protonmail.com" as an application for mailto links.

I have looked high and low across the 'net, and particularly on Mozilla's site for an answer to my query, but I have had no joy.

By involving Mozilla Support in my quest, I am hopeful that I am simply overlooking the solution to this irksome issue.

I eagerly await a reply.

My respect and Best Regards,

On every start of the firefox browser it opens the previous session as wanted but additionally it also opens a new window. This window opens the page set as "Homepage and new windows".

I would like to change the behaviour so that firefox only opens the previous session.

Note that the following post and its answer can I stop an additional firefox window from opening at startup? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1282272#question-reply

did not solve my problem.

Thanks in advance.

I recently updated to Version 93 and noticed something strange. I play a game in Facebook. The game is in HTML5. When I play the game the rendering of the graphics appears to be noticeably slower than in version 92. I don't know how else to describe the problem. As I play the game and click on the graphics to do something, it takes a noticeable lag in time before the change takes place.

I have been a longtime user of Firefox Sync.

I can login to my account. My system 'remembers' my password. All of my email addresses are current, but I do not want to reset my account.

Again, I can login to my account page, but I cannot change my password. When I attempt to, it says that the Current Password is incorrect. I now have a Yubi Key, and want to change my Firefox Account password to the OTP (static) on my key.

So, I logged into my account to send this email. If I click on Log In on my account page, I can. But I cannot change my password.

Can you help?

Please & Thank you, Tony DeNardo

I'm having some problems with Overleaf's editor, it's font isn't monospace (as it is supposed to be) and instead it gets overwritten by Ubuntu font. As a result the text cursor is off by a lot of characters, which makes it impossible to work with. The same doesn't happen with other browsers or website's like Ace editor's one (which overleaf uses). I don't know how to fix this and would appreciate some guidance. I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS btw. Thanks in advance!

Currently, in download for GNU Linux, there is only tarbal option. As far, as I known, Mozilla provide official flatpak package on flathub. Offering tarbar creates some problems. Most important is update problem. Flatpak automatically inform about new version of browser. Also, there is security and compatibility concern.

I propose to include: - Download network installer (flatpak ref file) - Download Firefox (flatpak bundle) - Download tarbar if two above fails (some distro do not support flatpak)

I am trying to run Firefox 94.0 on Ubuntu Linux 20.04. My home directory is NFS mounted. When I start Firefox, a window pops up that says "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

Here is what I have tried so far. First, I have moved away ~/.mozilla. Then I tried moving away ~/.thunderbird. I see that Firefox does create a new ~/.mozilla directory with these contents:

firefox

   Crash Reports/
       events/
       InstallTime2021102816135
   Pending Pings/

systemextensionsdev/

I have tried running Firefox like so:

firefox -P firefox --ProfileManager firefox --first-start firefox --safe-mode

All result in the same popup window.

I tried moving the .mozilla directory to somewhere locally on the computer, and made a symlink in my home directory to it.

I tried firefox --profile with the path to a profile stored locally on the computer.

I tried:

HOME=/somewherelocal firefox

And that caused some other problems.

I tried strace -f firefox but that produces so much output I don't know where to begin to figure out why it is behaving this way.

I've uninstalled Firefox, and reinstalled it (apt-get remove; apt-get install). I've rebooted the computer. I've updated Ubuntu to all the latest packages.

I think I've run out of things to try. Please help.

Thanks.

Usually when I change to a different machine and try setting it up, I end up blocked out of my account with the message I have to insert a code available via email, with 5 minute expiry. This makes a brick wall, as it takes such an email from 15 minutes to an hour to clear through the line here. I'm behind a corporate proxy which also is supervised. Is there any possible way the brick wall can be torn down by simply giving codes via SMS to cellphones, like your bank does, or extending this time to 1/2 hour or so? In this case, I can't get to the EMAIL app on a new machine until I link up the sync so that my various bookmarks are brought over, including the one for the email application. So I don't have my email yet until i get the Firefox sync working, and I can't do that because I can't get emails yet on that machine and 5 minutes is completely impossible anyway.

The jocular message "GAH your tab just crashed" is annoying because the program (Firefox) ought to apologise and empathise; instead it makes a joke about a situation which is very annoying and frustrating. It feels like when a friend lets you down and instead of apologising they make you feel worse by saying something callous and patronising like "Tough! Well just live with it." Please replace it with something more appropriate.

Having been mildly nagged to update, gave in to 91.3.0esr. (This is a Linux box with KDE.) Now, at 3:00 AM, have found that dozens of previously-visible tabs, across a number of windows, are invisible and unclickable. The current tab can sorta-be-seen at the bottom of the window, but that's it. As nearly as I can tell, the browser still knows about all the tabs from the previous (pre-update) session, and there is a place for the tabs in the toolbar (under the bookmark bar, where it belongs), but no tabs, and no control thereof.

At 70 years of age and with over 25 years of professional development, I assure you that, had I changed some user's interface in such a way, I would have been, uh, "spoken to", and not so kindly. Or worse. I also assure you that my wife will be bothered even more than I by this turn of events.

Can someone there PLEASE advise a short set of instructions to put things back where they belong, and working?

And can some powers-that-be PLEASE note that when users get a friendly working environment, we do NOT want the Microsoft-we-know-what's-best-for-you approach to interface development and maintenance? I know we aren't paying $$ for this product. But it isn't offered that way - I probably WOULD pay a fair fee for a sound, stable product that always works as well as yours USUALLY does.

Thank you very much for your help!

The urls I'm working with look like this `http://domain.com/path/to/resource` `http://domain.com/another/path/to/resource` So `http://domain.com` part takes too much space in URL column, but displaying just File column is not informative in this case.
