Under the Applications section of the General 'Tab' of settings I have the option 'Ask whether to open or save' selected. However when I am on a web page click on a downloadable/openable file(which has a app association) - Firefox doesn't ask me whether to save or open - It does both automatically.

I'm using Win 8.1 FF 115.13

The Settings Selection "Always ask me where to save [downloaded] files." has no effect. FF will automatically save the file into whatever folder I selected. (As it happens, that is \MyReceivedFiles.) This means I have to download again to the correct directory/folder and give it a new name. Because there is no "Save As" option. I do not have this problem in Edge browser. This exact same problem was posted at "Downloads default to download folder and never ask where to save them. " https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1412632 But it was archived without being solved. Please solve the problem. P.S. SUPPORT FORUMS: STOP ARCHIVING THREADS OR CLOSING THEM. Does anyone make an effort to survey users before making changes? Some changes are just a bother but others are really imposing costs.

I see the disappearing HOME icon is a recurring problem. So, fine, I've restored the button. But my complicated half-dozen links have also disappeared and I have to reconstruct my HOME pages. Mine are complicated since they are a series of graphs (from Yahoo Finance), each with specific different parameters. It will really take me time to reconstruct this and I really resent that.

Similarly, where on earth did my plug-ins/extensions go? Again, they haven't just disappeared from the toolbar. Once I locate the icon and restore it, I find that they've disappeared from TOOLS > ADD-ONS AND THEMES. I have to go download them again? Why?

Naturally, all of this just happens to land on my plate on a very bad morning. Lesson learned: I'll make a bookmark folder to duplicate what the HOME button should bring up.

What is the point of all this?

Thanks for listening,

JeanneR Firefox 106.0.5 (64-bit) Win 8.1

Hi. Today after booting up the laptop I got the message in the screenshot from Avast antivirus. Can you help me determine whether it is a false positive? I opened firefox once, I had no connection to the internet (website not found errors), then closed firefox, opened it again and then the message popped up.

Hello, I have intermittent problems of not receiving certain emails on my Commander.net.au server. For reasons unknown emails which contain documents such as newsletters or greeting cards do not arrive in my email account. I have checked with the sender and they have definitely been sent to the correct address but never arrive. Commander claim there is no firewall to prevent this from happening. Is there a Firefox firewall that is stopping these emails?? Many thanks, Steve

Prior to the last two <Firefox> updates (too many, too frequently!), no problem. Both keyboard and mouse were recognized. Since then, only the mouse, although everything's fine when I use Chrome.

Yes, I'm on the latest version, and have cleared caches and rebooted ... after every new version.

Nothing I do – cache clearing and the like, makes any difference. Denied access. No other website has been altered in this way. Any thoughts – is this down to you?

Re your (partial email & apology) sent to me by mistake:

"Greetings, It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. You know what else was humbling? Sending out an email by mistake, full of out-of-context Sagan quotes being used as placeholder text (thank you, Sagan Ipsum)."

So I looked for the humor in it, but then remembered that since you "partner" with the cursed WEF, it's more likely an expression of a severe mental illness that characterizes all who "partner" with them, & thus only deranged types might find funny.

It is hard to describe in nerd language what's happening, but I'll try in human language:

1. Firefox frequently takes forever to even begin loading websites! 2. After today's update (16-OCT-2022) search engine search fields won't accept any text! 3. Absolute slowness on Firefox, but when I try other browsers, the problem is not there.

For many years Firefox has been trouble. I keep on trying it and I end up dumping it.

Why can't Mozilla hire people who CAN do it?
