So in FF68.0 Mozilla devs have for some reason screwed such a basic thing as drag and drop from the browser into Windows file explorer. The best fix I was able to find to restore drag and drop proper functionality is to go into "about:config" page, find "browser.launcherProcess.enabled" setting and switch it to "false". The problem is, the setting in question just keeps resetting to "true" on its own after each and every browser update, so I had to manually change it back to "false" after FF69 update, FF70 update, FF71 update and FF72 update, basically 4 additional times already if not even more (I don't quite remember about XX.0.1 types of updates). It's frankly getting ridiculous and extremely annoying by that point. Is there a way to stop FF from screwing my "about:config" settings without my consent?

How do I force firefox delete all cookies and site data when I close it, without forbidding remembering them?

Hello.

I want Firefox to delete all data, which means cookies and site data, when I close all Firefox's windows. But since I migrated to win10, I've been experiencing a trouble.

Back in my win7 environment, things were working as intended. I went to "about:preferences#privacy". Then on "Cookies and Site Data" section, I ticked "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed." And on "History" section, I chose "Firefox will Use custom settings for history". And I ticked "Clear history when Firefox closes". Also I ticked all boxes on "Settings for Clearing History" window. All data seemed deleted when I closed Firefox back then.

But things were changed in a weird way. The settings on "History" section is working but I've noticed some leftovers. All cookies are gone and you're logged out, but I noticed that some sites STILL have some settings. A example is "tenki.jp", which is a weather forecast page. I opened a page of a location, and close Firefox, and start Firefox, and went to the top page, but it still remembers the location which I checked earlier. The setting on "Coolies and Site Data" section is worse. It works, but not in the intended way. I opened a page of a location on the weather forecast site, and went to the top page, it of-course remembered the location. But I opened the top page on ANOTHER TAB, it forgets the location. It seems like Firefox shares cookies and log-in information between tabs, but don't shares this sort of data when the setting is ticked.

I don't understand what is going on. All I know is that some sites uses "that sort of data", which is not cookies and site data apparently, to store site settings, and Firefox can't handle them well.

If you know a solution, please let me know.

I'm using 72.0.2 64bit on Windows 10 Pro 64bit Japanese.

Thanks.

I am comparing different browser-based password manager implementations.

I noticed that Firefox prompts to remember credentials when a form is submitted, but some other browsers, e.g., Google Chrome, wait until the server responds with a success status before prompting (and, if the server responds with an error status, then the browser does not prompt to remember the credentials).

I assume there are pros/cons to these different approaches, and I would like to better understand the trade-offs.

Right now, all I see is that it is possible—even likely—for a user to tell Firefox to remember an incorrect/invalid password—which seems like a downside to Firefox's approach.

I had to reinstall Firefox browser. After reinstalling, I have noticed that the Tracking Protection shield was always grey. For every site I go to, the Tracker Protection summary (dropdown after clicking the shield) always says "No trackers known to Firefox were detected on this page". This is for sites that previously I know Firefox was blocking trackers.

I'm wondering if perhaps during the reinstall I've lost the file of known trackers somehow? Already tried reinstalling and restarting.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Since Firefox cares about my privacy, I don't want to have my IP accidentally leaked due to unstable connection! And I don't want to use Tor for some reasons. How do I force my browser to work with VPN only? Like if I got disconnected, everything stops working until I turn on my VPN again. Is there anyway or any extensions that can take care of this job for me?

I am using the currect version of FF, 71 or 70. something, not sure but I just updated. I use Whatsapp.web to chat when on my PC. I have no trouble connecting to Whatsapp.web using my Iphone and Firefox. However, EVERY time that FF closes, for a restart, or simply when I make a mistake and accidentally close the browser, the connection to Whatsapp.web is apparently broken. I say apparently because on the Iphone, it sontinues to list Windows 10 as an active device using the web app. When I used Microsoft Edge, once I scanned the QR code and connected, I would STAY connected, even overnight after I had shut down the PC. I am wondering if there are certain privacy or security settings which are preventing Whatsapp from staying connected when the FF browser closes. I also remember that a couple of years ago, when I was using FF in the 40s versions, maybe, Whatsapp also stayed connected. Just a note: the reason this is sort of a problem for me is that I am blind, and I use certain visual accessibility settings on Windows and FF that do not allow the Whatsapp QR to be scanned; so I have to change the entirevisual setting of my PC, scan the code, then restore the entire visual setting. Any ideas how to keep Whatsapp.web connected always, or at least as long as I don't end my Windows session?
