Work-around: WebSDR sites won't save memories stored on my computer

Edit: Rewritten from scratch on Wednesday, June 16, 2021:

I am running the new Firefox 89.0 on Linux. Under the Edit menu, the Preferences option is now called Settings.

Please open Settings and search for site data. This displays the pertinent settings for Cookies and Site Data, and for History.

A Web SDR site is a website that gives each of its visitors the ability to tune a Software Defined Radio chip to a different frequency, independent of other users' listening preferences. The audio is streamed back to the user.

It requests that the user supply a user name, often a ham radio operator's callsign. This is used to display on the radio dial where each user is listening. If a name is missing, the user's IP address is used.

A cookie is stored with the user name, and if that cookie survives to the next visit to the site, the name does not have to be re-entered.

The web SDR can allow users to save custom memory presets, and cookies are said to be used to save memory presets "on your computer," and not on the server.

I had set cookie preferences for each site to always allow cookies, and my username was indeed carried over from one browser session to another. But my presets were never saved.

I finally discovered that it was not a cookie, but offline site data storage on my computer that retains these presets.

Under the History section in Preferences of earlier versions of Firefox, I told Firefox to use custom settings, and then I had set first- and third-party cookies to be allowed for the session. I told Firefox to Clear history when it closes, and in the "Settings ..." dialog, I unchecked everything but cache and offline site data. Only cache and offline site data were deleted.

The History section in Settings in FF 89.0 is still set for Firefox to use custom settings, but cookie options are not listed. I still tell Firefox to Clear history when it closes, and the "Settings ..." dialog is the same.

In the Cookies and Site Data section in Settings, I tell Firefox to Delete cookies and site data when it is closed. In the "Exceptions ..." dialog, I enter the address of the website and hit "Always" for everything entered, to save the site's cookies and data from the bulldozer.

It occurred to me that there are two duplicate means to clear cookies and site data.

I went to History and opened the "Settings ... " dialog again and cleared the checkbox for offline site data.

NOW my stored memories on the Web SDR sites are still here! In Firefox 89, do not use History's Clear history when Firefox closes to delete cookies or site data, for that will blow away the cookies that were saved in the Cookies and Site Data's Exceptions!

The browser was overhauled, and History's handling of cookies and site data became obsolete.

I do have a question here: If I am on a site, I can click on the lock in the address bar to retrieve a series of screens that lead me to the Security tab, and to its left, the Permissions tab. By selecting the Permissions tab, I can set the site's permissions for cookies and for persistent storage of site data.

If I set to allow cookies and allow site data in Permissions, does that enter the site address into the Settings' Cookies and Site Data's Exceptions dialog? Or must I still copy the address of the site and go to Settings and enter that in Exceptions also?

I put items in a cart on a website that I accessed through firefox. I did not sign into any accounts on the website and I did not purchase the items. I then cleared my cookies, cache, and offline data. Later on I went back to the website and wanted to put items back in the cart to re-price everything and discovered that the items were still in the cart from before. I cleared cookies, etc. again and the items were still in the cart. I then went to the website on Chrome and the items were still in the cart. Again, I did not sign into any accounts or anything. I never use Chrome. Just went straight to the website on Chrome and went to the cart and the items were there even though I didn't use Chrome to put anything in the cart. I then cleared cookies, etc. on Chrome and the items were still in the cart. I tried this on Edge and same thing. I have used Bitdefender, Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro, and CC Cleaner and no program is finding the malware or spyware or trojan or whatever this is. This is a well-known website that even has a facebook page. I messaged the webmaster and I posted on their facebook page and I'm being ignored. What is this and how do I get rid of it?

I have 3 accounts on a particular website. All three account login credentials are saved in firefox however one of them (the wrong one, since it is the one I use least often) is pre-filled when I first go to the site. How do I remove the setting that one of them is pre-filled? I want just the regular drop-down choice of all three. I have deleted that accounts credentials and cleared the cache, but as soon as I add the account info again, it is automatically pre-filled instead of just listed with the other two options.

With FF91, it seems I can only delete cookies for an entire domain. I occasionally have an issue with forums.xfinity.com where it won't load. Deleting the cookies for forums.xfinity.com would fix it. Now, with FF91, I have to delete ALL xfinity.com cookies! It seems as if there should be a way to open up the 'container' to see the sub-domains, and then you could further open that up if needed to delete an individual cookie.

Hello.

I would like to know if there is documentation on how does Firefox "SSB" (or "PWA") interact with containers (and the Multi-Account Containers), please.

In simpler words: is there a way to have different SSBs for a single website using different accounts in each of them? (e.g., two different SSB "Gmails" or "Office 365" etc?)

And do SSB own their specific containers or can we link an SSB to an existing container used in the 'general' Firefox?

Thanks!

Dear Firefox Community,

I can't create subject or new post on AMD Community forum. I mean this website: https://community.amd.com/

This can be problem with firefox because before update to version 91.0 I had not any problem. I think that this is problem with cookies because when I open community.amd.com website in private mode I can create only one subject or new post. If I want to second subject or post I can see information like this: "Post flooding detected (user tried to post more than 1 messages within 600 seconds)". Like I said when I want to create second subject or post this is not possible. To solve this problem I must log out from the website next exit the tab and open new one in private mode, log out again and I can now create again but only one post/subject.

This can be also problem with new version of firefox 91.0 because before update to this version I had not any problem. I think that this is problem with cookies.

Can you tell me if you have also this issue?

Thanks.

On just one website I am having this issue. When I close just that one page, with FF still open on other browser pages, I am not only logged out, but all my information is lost and I have to set up the account each subsequent visit. Every single time. Their cookie still appears in the list, but now Ionly see one cookie for each site, not the breakdown I used to see I don't know how many cookies are actually still there, or if any "sub" cookies have been deleted. I do not clear cookies on full closure of FF and this only occurs on this one website that I visit. That same site viewed on my phone stays logged on and keeps all my info etc. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Firefox removes all cookies when I shut it down; that is the option I have chosen. I know I can opt out of this by allowing cookies for certain websites.

I don't want to allow Google/Youtube cookies in this way: I don't want Google to come back the next time and continue to build their cookie cache; I want them to start with a "Google cookie free" browser.

But.....

This means I have to set my Google cookie settings every time I start my browser and visit any of the Google sites. This annoys me a lot.

Is it possible to single out certain cookies (e.g. the one with the Google cookie settings) that I want to keep, while I remove all the other Google cookies on shut down?

(Before you suggest: not using Google/Youtube is not an option).

Thanx,

Thom
