Firefox unable restore session when switching profiles and instead opening apps installed on the profile I'm switching to.

I have installed Whatsapp web (web.whatsapp.com) on "Profile 1" as a Windows app.

I have some tabs open in "Profile 1" and I switch to "Profile 2" and close the "Profile 1" window with "X" button of Windows 11 but keep the Whatsapp window open.

When I open the "Profile 1" from profile menu, my expectation is that, those previous tabs should be restored, but firefox is opening the Whatsapp web app/window.

OS: Windows 11 23H2 Firefox: 152.0.4

Today, after the last update of the software, I lost ALL my tabs (2 years of materials) and there was no way to recover them. Furthermore, I had to spend hours to retrieve at least the most important tabs I use for work.

This is not acceptable, please fix this issue and make the recovery of tabs possible and easy.

My bookmarks have disappeared. I have followed the steps to restore them under the FAQ, but at Step 2 ("In the Library window, click the import-export-arrows button and then select Restore"), when I click Restore, no list of backups appears from which to select the one I want to restore. I have been using Firefox for years and have loads of useful bookmarks. How can I get them back?

i had two different firefox browsers yesterday. I deleted one but all my passwords are gone from the other browser. When the firefox browser got uninstalled it created a backup on my desktop called bookmarksback up. how can i move that file into this new firefox and how can I retrieve those passwords?

I have been using Mozilla Firefox on my mobile phone or PC since 2015. So, after so long, I found the Gmail that I used to log in to Mozilla from 2015 to 2018. Now, if I log in with that Gmail, will the previous history or data be restored or will it be Mozilla's?

Running Windows 10 but with extra year of security updates. Several web sites were running very slow or not loading at all. So I tried doing system restore - only went back 3 days but afterward said it had some problems, and link to Firefox did not work. So I did system recovery back to time from which I had just done restore. But I had no link to Firefox so had to download it new. But now I have none of my previous tabs, links, saved passwords,,etc. I'm hoping my previous Firefox is still on my PC and there is a way I can run it.

""What happened:"" Yesterday I updated Firefox to 151 and noticed a "Profile" feature for the first time. I created a new profile, then saw a small icon with the Firefox icon that bothered me and realized it belonged to the new profile. I thought that the newly created profile is safe to delete and has to data within, so I deleted it. After that, Firefox deleted all old data and created another new profile and I lost old bookmarks, passwords, and browsing history.

Note: no warning was showed before deleting the profile.

What I tried: 1. Checked about:profiles profiles: no old data. 2. Opened the profiles folder in C:\Users\[my account]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles: no old data found. I noticed one of the default profiles contains a places.sqlite file that’s about 2 years old: no old data, only default bookmarks are there. 3. Used Recuva to try to recover files — I recovered key4.db, login.db, and places.sqlite-shm but nothing useful so far. Environment/details: • Firefox version: 151 • OS: Windows 11 • No Firefox account Questions: • Is there any way to restore the old profile data from the files I recovered (key4.db, logins.json/login.db, places.sqlite-shm)? • Any other recovery steps I should try? • how to prevent the same thing in the future? I didn't close those tabs, one time i opened mozilla and they were all closed.

All but 2 of my previous saved windows have been lost. They are not recoverable or present when trying to use "Recently closed windows." How could this happen? More importantly, how can I recover them? They contain numerous tabs that will be impossible to recreate from memory.

How can I Recover Deleted Firefox (build 151.0.2 (64-bit) Browsing History in my version/edition of Windows 11 Pro, Version = 25H2, installed = 12/06/2024, OS Build = 26200.8524. Can you help me recover my Browsing History from Friday, 05/29/2026? Please.

I had an unusual system crash, and when I restarted Firefox, the History > Restore Previous Session feature was grayed out. Due to the nature of my work, I had a large quantity of tabs open at the time of the crash (please don't judge). I then backed up the contents of the \Library\Application Support\Firefox\Profiles\[session].default\sessionstore-backups\ folder, but unfortunately not the full Profiles folder content. The file recovery.baklz4 does seem to contain my open session info (I can see a recent link in it). Based on web advice, I then tried restarting Firefox, but that didn't solve my issue. I also tried copying in sessionstore-backups files, without success. I then tried the "Session History Scrounger" web application to try and recover links from the contents of recovery.baklz4 because that worked for me in a prior crash years ago, but it doesn't seem to work properly anymore (it only retrieved 4 web pages). Appreciate any guidance as to how I can use my backed up sessionstore-backup files to re-enable Restore Previous Session, or alternatively to scrounge the links that were open at the time of the crash. Greatly appreciate your help! (Please do not suggest using "Show All History"... I have no plans to sort through a dump truck of rice with a pair of tweezers.)

I used Firefox yesterday. My settings are to open Firefox with tabs restored - but all my tabs (as they were yesterday) are missing and when I go to history, the option to restore a recent window is greyed out. The option to restore a previous session doesn't even seem to be there.

I notice in task manager I have 15 firefox tasks. Could my window from yesterday have opened somehow in the background, but not be visible to me anywhere?

Hi, I realized the other day when I went to use firefox that my bookmarks and history were all missing from firefox. I first tried to see if it was a profile issue like listed here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recover-lost-or-missing-bookmarks but even though it had another profile my history and bookmarks weren't in the other other profile either. Next I tried the next method on the page where it says you can go to manage bookmarks then once in your library you can click restore to fix it but it refuses to bring up any files or folders when I do this. Also the library is totally empty and there's none of the previous shortcuts that show up from your most common pages when you open the new tabs, but when I opened firefox the first time it had the tabs I was previously on when I opened it like the previous session. My computer is very old and sometimes doesn't like to open new applications but a web browser or folder is basic enough that I've never really had issues with it other than slowness.

Hello, I've got a problem with my account after something log me off the account for no reason then I put in new password and boom nothing my all passwords are gone please these passwords are really important for me, I need them back and I will be thankful if I could get any advice how to get them back because I had something around 100 of them now I got one only one please help me out im freaking out.

I recently purchased a new desktop due to the previous desktop malfunctioning a bit. The old hdd is still in operating condition and is now a slave in my new cpu. Where can I find the history/bookmarks on the old drive? Is there a filename that is relevant for the data?

you have removed ALL my bookmarks every time I reboot Firefox. This is intolerable!!!!!!! You have cost me 24 hours of insufferable time trying to reinstall my hundreds of bookmarks.

Logged on to find this message. Followed "Fix" set as best I could (I am puter dumb) with no joy. "Manage Bookmarks" is completely blank. All wits end, Please HELP!

FF 153.0b4 this time, was only a few months ago when FF did this same thing last time! But now its an updated ver and still messing up! It's getting more bloated (But most software is) and trying to do to much and things are going WRONG alot more often. FF (Mozilla) used to go years between data losses and now it's MONTHS! Get your act together Mozilla.

    FF wasn't even updating it self, and I haven't changed anything in days. Worked fine yesterday but when I opened it today, the 4 windows opened but they didn't want to open there tabs (most of them have less than a dozen). The main window showed my menu bar, recent browsing icon and a mostly blank tab bar except for the new tab on the far right, none of the other tabs were loading or even showing up, but the space was there for them. I even just left it sit there and chew on things for about 15 minutes before I decided to exit out (file/exit) and try again. This time my other 3 windows loaded just fine but the main window with around 2 dozen tabs was BLANK! and NO recovery options! Recently closed tabs does show tabs I closed on it before the meltdown but NONE from the LOSS. Nightly does not show any in the Tab sync either (but it may not have been up long enough to sync). There is a previous window, but that is not the one I need to recover (Ironic that it will save a window with 65 tabs closed a week ago and let me recover it but it won't let me recover a window with only a couple dozen tabs from a couple hours ago). Wish I could remember how to wright complicated batch files, then I could make one that would back up the profiles after I close FF, that way when it screws up I could just copy the last backup in place and be working again. And all I would need to do is just put a time code in the profile name to make incremental backups and decide how long to keep them for with out over writing. SEE how SIMPLE that would be for you to do Mozilla? It's been how many years that you've been working on FF and it's predecessor and still no profile backup and restore? And to make things worse, most of the databases used are encrypted in some way so as to be NOT user friendly. We can't even import an old backup or profile parts if we need to recover something or look at something. You make it SO hard to recover from a crash when one happens (and they happen more often than they used to) and even just to back up our info even if we could recover it. You were a great browser, now you are broken and barely adequate bloat ware and getting worse. Problem is that your still better than chrome and edge crap.
