Is there some way to reduce the white space / padding between bookmark and menu items in the new Proton interface introduced in Firefox 89? I don't have a touchscreen and all the extra white space just means more scrolling to navigate through my bookmarks.

The AskVG site has a 02-June-2021 article at https://www.askvg.com/tip-restore-old-classic-theme-and-ui-in-firefox-89-and-later-versions/ that explains how to disable all the new Proton interface changes in about:config, but is there one specific hidden preference / flag (e.g., browser.proton.toolbar.version) mentioned in that article that controls the spacing between bookmarks and menu items?

There is a also a companion article on AskVG titled https://www.askvg.com/tip-restore-compact-mode-density-option-in-firefox-customize-window/ with instructions on how to change two Density options (browser.compactmode.show and browser.uidensity) in about:config, but I have no idea if changing my density setting to "Compact" would actually decrease white space (padding) between bookmark and menu items.

Hello,

I just installed the new update. The new tab design is totally confusing/unclear to me. Especially the fact that the new tabs don't have a "seperator-line" to the next tab. Thats totally disturbing to me. It's really difficult for me to keep the overview about my normally around 60 tabs now. Is there an option to switch back to the old tabs look and feel? Are there other options to customize the look of the tab bar?

Thanks in advance and Greetz!

First of all: I tried to "give feedback" first, by going to that crowdicity website. I had to create an account, then I created an "idea" but it wasn't even allowed by the mods.

The 89 design is not user friendly, it takes away too much of my screen. I want to see the website, not some bloated tabs. And what on earth is meant by unsupported in the customize menu when I try to select compact? I always recommendet Firefox, among my friends and family as well as among my customers. Since day 1 I was with you, but this is just the absolute opposite of user friendliness. Even Microsoft Edge shows more of the actual website, I'm trying to look at. No "unsupported" compact mode needed, it is already even less obstrusive than that.

There were so many users who begged you not to do this. But you didn't listen. I want to be nice and kind but you gotta listen to your users, not just rely on your telemetry data. If someone chooses to install Firefox, a lot of people have the ability and knowledge to turn off that stuff. Those are your most loyal users. Listen to them.

Is there anyway to restore the format (compactness) of the Bookmark Menus without setting the Automatic Updates to not automatically update and then downloading the 88.0.1 version? I hate to not have the Automatic Updates, for obvious reasons, but don't want to use the double space of the Bookmarks even more.

I really dislike the new version of Firefox - as with everything these days, it seems to be tablet/phone-oriented whilst I continue to be a PC dinosaur.

For example, some websites are now showing up with hefty vertical borders ... and particularly annoying for me is the leading (i.e. vertical spacing) on the dropdowns, especially Bookmarks which I use frequently. The fact that it's so much 'spacier' means that I have a lot more scrolling down to do!

I've stuck with Firefox through thick and thin over many years now, but if there isn't some way to change this - or revert (permanently - i.e. not to be thrown into the air again at the next update) - I'll be seriously thinking of jumping ship to the evil Chrome or Edge.

Any advice welcome!

The 89.0 (64-bit) update to Firefox is a joke! When are fixes coming or is there any way for me to return to the previous edition. I cannot get used to this charade.

I think that Firefox is by far the most superior browser and this update is just so not Firefox. It hurts. It hurts really bad!

Firefox 89.0 update has doubled the row space between bookmark folders and bookmarks. A previous thread suggested using about:config, browser.proton.contextmenus.enabled but that has not fixed/changed anything. The additional spacing between rows adds nothing, improves nothing and slows down selection of bookmarks. Hopefully this will be fixed.

I've used Firefox since 2001. Twenty years I've been able to customize it like I want.

A few months ago I switched from ESR to Release channel because the release version could still be tweaked to the way I like it. Huge mistake!

Version 89 totally destroyed everything I like about Firefox! I use Firefox on a large monitor from my easy-chair. I NEED compact layout. Everything is zoomed anyway. I hate the new tabs! I ESPECIALLY hate the double-spaced bookmarks! I want to continue to use a custom CSS in "chrome" folder.

I switched back to the ESR channel (FF78) and had to re-tweak my about:config settings, reinstall and tweak add-ons and load hundreds of bookmarks to get the favicons back. Unique favicons make it much easier to differentiate between sites. Generic icons suck. Major hassle!

I will stick with Firefox ESR until it too becomes unusable for me. At that point, sadly, my decades long use of Firefox will come to an end.

I include two screen grabs that illustrate how I like my set-up. Note how easy it is to tell one tab from another.

Why "fix" what ain't broke?

I deplore the way the browser looks now and want the old look back... I have vision problems and am totally ignorant about computers. I finally found FF and the last version was PERFECT. I could clearly see it, knew how to use it, and LOVED it and I WANT IT BACK. SIMPLY... Because I am so ignorant, the instructions I have seen so far might have been written in a foreign language. Is there a SIMPLE way to restore the OLD LOOK and feel. Keeping all the new security and other stuff is fine...although I was fine with the way it was, but I will have to find another browser if someone cannot help me fix the image back to the way it was. Please, why do they upgrade this stuff and not leave a way to keep the old look for those of us who don't want to change? If anyone can help me...I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

I wonder if there is anyone who has figured out a way to got back to a previous easier to use Firefox than this new version 89. It is so unclear where one thing starts and ends. I can't tell where my open tabs are either. It's a terrible upgrade. Don't the people working on these things have other more important features to work on? Is there anyone who can provide help and guidance?

I am using a MacBook Air 10.12.6

Thanks

This latest update from Firefox is awful in my opinion. The tabs are ugly and blocky and too big and everything is spaced weirdly. The right-click menu is far bigger than it needs to be. This is all new as of the latest update. It appears Mozilla did one of those "changing something for the sake of changing it" updates which I detest.

Is there any way to revert to the previous update, when everything was normal? I tried searching through settings but couldn't find anything. Nor could I find an add-on to fix it. This is quite frustrating as I liked the compactness of Firefox but they broke all of that and made it ugly in the process.

Thank you for any help!
