I recently began using Xmarks with Firefox 16 on a Windows 7 platform. I got some sort of an error message (I think from Xmarks) regarding "Bookmarks". I clicked on the message to fix the problem and zapp all my bookmarks were gone. I found my "bookmarksbackup" profile file. but can't get it to open. I suppose that I need a JSON viewer. I downloaded a opensource viewer that looked good, but still don't get anything that remotely resembles my old bookmarks. I thought that I might be the victim of a virus, but I'm probably just the victim of my own ignorance.

i was having problems with firefox 16 and it kept freexing and not responding .. so i removed it and reinstalled ... i forgot that i had also reformatted my mac that had the bookmarks synced .. does the sync backup my bookmarks on cloud?

so i can restore them ?

i bookmarked a new site & was moving it up & into one of my folders when for some reason the folder "New Home" just disappeared from under the bookmarks section.

Now that I'm in your trouble shooting area my screen must be at 150% or more! How do I get back to 100% like the rest of my screens?

I'm not a real techie person, so plain English would really be appreciated, thanks.

Recently, my laptop/files became corrupted and I lost my bookmarks among other things. I have a backup of bookmarks in a backup folder and would like to import them back onto Firefox. How do I re-import them to firefox again?

I can view the RSS feed (http://www.engadget.com/rss.xml) on Firefox without any problem. But I can't view the RSS using live bookmark, when I click the folder, it just say 'live bookmark feed failed to load'. This happens after the engadget recent redesign.

Cannot move bookmarks wherever I want. They are stuck in alpha order. When I move one it goes back to alpha order. I would like to be able to move them manually in any order.

Ok not sure I can describe this correctly but here goes. Didn't see the attache an image link when I made the original post so I replied with those attached. The one linked favicon is my website. As you can see the favicon is an IB graphic. If you look at my bookmarks icons its 2 red lines which is not the correct favicon. I have removed that icon from the web site completely as that is what my control panel assigned as a favicon automatically.

Now I was wondering why there are 2 different ones and how do I fix this? Its not a deal breaker but its annoying. Also case in point google chrome doesn't do this. It displays the favicon for the website in the address bar and in the bookmark toolbar it displays the same icon.

Hello, I believe that what I'm asking is simple & clear. Do you or do you not store user data backups on your servers? I've been using Firefox, as the default browser, for over 7 years. Naturally, I had to upgrade my pc's & operating systems several times through this period. Every time I use a new device & of course a new OS, I normally lose my old data (History & Bookmarks). If you keep records or backups of old users' data, there will be no problem & I could restore all my old data following your instructions. If not, which is probably the case, I'd like to suggest you consider developing or at least put more stress on running backup before uninstalling & re-installing a new OS for the users to pay more attention to this issue. In MSIE, a registry setting can ensure that bookmarks and folders always remain in alphabetical order. In Firefox, I have to repeatedly sort each of my bookmark folders independently to maintain order. The add-on, "SortPlaces", which was recommended in answer to similar questions, has been "removed by its author". To add insult to injury, after getting up my courage to try out Firefox Sync after years of good results using XMarks, I found the order of my bookmarks completely bollixed on the two PCs which I attempted to sync using Firefox sync. The bookmark folders, which were previously in a single alphabetized list, are now split into two lists without any apparent rhyme or reason. I have not foun any way to combine them again, short of wiping them out completely and restoring them from XMarks. How can I: 1. Repair the schism in my bookmark list? 2. Ensure that my bookmarks remain alphabetized, without repeated manual intervention?

I have tried everything to delete some of my bookmarks. I can't right click on the bookmark folder to delete...it doesn't work. I've tried going to the web page and deleting using the star icon at the top without any success. How can I delete bookmarks???? Martin Golding

I just put Windows VII on this computer and consequently had to install FF 17 (I think I still had fifteen before.)

On this new version their is no single "Bookmark" button to click to access my favorites and I'm being forced to go through the "Bookmarks" thing to the right which gives me no access to the majority of my links.

The old method was just fine, why did they have to screw with it!? How do I get the single button back so I can open the entire bookmark list?

IE 8 is still installed, but will not run. I cannot install any version of IE--I tried. I can import only first level bookmarks. Solutions in forum assume a working IE 8.

I had went into the task manager and accidentally deleted the firefox task the was going. When I went back on firefox, all my bookmarks were gone. I tried restarting it, without any luck. I tried getting the backups, to find I had none. Nothing has worked for me. Thought originally I was trying to get google chrome on my computer, only for that not to work, so I'm not sure if that may have messed it up or not. Please help me.

Hi, I am a long time user of firefox and am in the habit of putting helpful comments in the <properties> field of my bookmarks. I regularly export my bookmarks and in looking at my exported bookmark files I can see my comments. However, due to a PC problem I have, for the first time, had to import my bookmarks. They come in without error but minus my handy little comments. I am hoping some clever soul will be able to tell me how to import bookmarks with my comments as it will take me ages to recreate all these little comments for each bookmark. Thank you
