My version of Firefox is 108.0.1 -- I am running Windows 10 on a machine that Windows says is not capable of running Windows 11

My installation of Firefox resides on my D: drive. It uses quite a bit of space for cache and other things on my C: drive but it starts and runs on my D: drive. Now I am forced to update, but I can't get the installer to recognize an installation on the D: drive and update it. Instead it makes a new installation on my C: drive and I lose my appearance customizations, history and bookmarks.

I have never believed and cannot accept that an application absolutely MUST reside on the C: drive. It's lazy programming (something I used to do for a living). I can't believe Mozilla programmers wrote an installer that insists that Firefox must live there, so what am I missing? How do I tell the installer to find and update my existing application?

Thanks for your help. I feel as if I am missing something that ought to be obvious.

using 64 bit Linux here.

I download an update, but it doesn't do anything. It constantly tells me I need to download an update. Currently using 133.0.3

I managed to get an update through Linux, but now I'm having trouble with Linux. I suspect I need to remove Firefox and reload it. I tried to do that one time but it didn't fix the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jim

Hallo zusammen,

Hello everyone,

I can no longer access my Firefox because it is probably not compatible with 133 (see screenshot). It is recommended to uninstall and reinstall. But then my favorites, bookmarks and passwords are gone. I can't save them because I don't have access to the old version. How do I solve the problem?

Best regards Annette

So I guess my Firefox update to ver. 147 from 146 by its auto update feature, but I realized all the past personal data (ie, history, cookies, passwords, profile, etc) was gone.

I have Mozilla Account (I think it's the same as Firefox Account back in the old days), so my personal data is now retrieved from some device as far as possible, but I lost local personal settings like Shortcuts on the main page on my laptop,p which is the main device to do everything.

I can't help what happened to me, and I will rebuild what I used to be on that day, but I am curious if it's just me, or there is some logic to cause this data loss.

Hello, I'm having some problems with updating firefox. It started a few months ago that I got a Pop-up every time I started Firefox about needing to update it. But when I click on the prompt to update it, it leads me to this website: https://www.mozilla.org/de/firefox/new/?reason=manual-update , and after clicking on the download button I get to this site for about a second: https://www.mozilla.org/de/firefox/download/thanks/ after which it loads this site: https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-stub&os=win&lang=de which my browser can't connect to (aka just gives me the standard error message as if you entered an invalid URL). Today I got this website pop-up when starting Firefox: https://www.mozilla.org/de/firefox/welcome/21/ which leads to the same outcome as above. After that I tried to update Firefox by going to the menu -> help -> about Firefox, which searches for updates but then tells me that I have the newest version installed already??? Even when I try to manually install a new version through this site: https://www.mozilla.org/de/firefox/all/ I still get the same result. Please somebody help me out here!

Greetings Ya'll,

Early this morning as I went to use the Firefox browser, on My Desktop, I got an update, & then firefox opened, somewhat.

The homepage did not fill in with favorites, suggestions, etc, and in fact all that did load was the Search bar, but not one of my usual website buttons. The "edit", "help", etc. buttons at the upper left hand corner did load, but that is all.

Not one of the buttons work, nor can I close out the Firefox page, by tapping the "X" in the upper right hand corner.

The only way that I could close out the "Firefox Page" was by going through the "Control/Alt/Delete" & then "Signing Out", which would initiate a "Re-start". Once I signed in, I could return to the Desktop, where everything works.

I use Firefox as my Browser on my Android phone, & at this moment, I've not had any problems using Firefox on my Cell Phone.

The only way that I could get to the Mozilla Website was by using the Microsoft Edge Browser, which is not giving me any problems as far as accessing the Internet!

How can I correct this problem, & go back to the Firefox Browser?

After the 8/5/25 Firefox update the internet is inaccessible on my laptop through the standard Firefox browser. The internet is accessible with MS Edge. Toolbar is set to always show bookmarks but none appear. Also, the browser's application's menu does not open to access options such as restore previous session, recently closed tabs, etc. I've restarted my device several times without it resolving the issues with the standard browser.

The Firefox developer version opened in command prompt safe mode (firefox -safe-mode), which is how this inquiry is being sent, but no bookmarks on tool bar or current page history from the standard (non-developer) Firefox.

I'd like to return to accessing the internet using the standard Firefox version with its bookmarks, history, etc. I am using Windows 10. Thank you.

Firefox seems to update in the background, then accuses me of launching an older version, wiping my bookmarks

I'm running Firefox 139.0.1 on Mac Sonoma 14.7.1.

Since FF V138, I've had this extremely frustrating problem where, approximately once a day and while the application is still running, Firefox seems to either auto-revert to an older version' 'or otherwise mess up the installation files. I don't get any notice this is happening until I try to open a new tab and it brings up the "You must restart Firefox" notice. When I click Restart, it pops up with "You've launched an older version of Firefox, so you won't keep any of your bookmarks because that would be unstable" error.

The only way I've found to fix it is to redownload the most recent install files, which, after the fresh install, will allow me to keep using Firefox with my bookmarks for the next 5-6 hours, before the whole process starts again.

I theoretically have auto-updates off; my settings are set to the other option, "Check for updates but let you choose to install them". Doesn't seem to make a difference. It only does this on my Mac; the FF install on my Windows machine works fine.

I really want to keep using FF. It's my preferred personal browser. But this is really messing with me! I was hopeful that 139.1 would fix it but same issue, so far.

Downloaded an update of firefox. Is this for real? A message box came up and said I would get a NEW version of firefox but all my things would be saved. Now I have two firefox versions. My old version has all my info and saved and/or chosen settings. HOWEVER the newer version is a new install without settings and WORSE it has GOOGLE as the browser?!?! Is DUCK DUCK GO gone to goOgle? If I wanted a shopping app I would use my GOOGLE account instead of Firefox. How do I fix this?

Now, however, going to https://www.firefox.com/en-US/?utm_campaign=SET_DEFAULT_BROWSER and attempt a download results in this (image).

Any solution to this?

From "About" on the Firefox menu I am trying to download the update from 145.0.2 but it is stalled at 27.1 of 31.3 MB. The little pair of spinning arrows icon just keeps spinning without making any further progress. I'm on a 2020 iMac running Sonoma 14.5 My internet connection is still functioning. I'm wondering what I should do. Is there a way to just cleanly stop and start over? Or stop and continue.
