For the past few days every time I closeFirefox a page appears about myTemp.email. I have never requested this and certainly don't want it. This only happens with Firefox and not with other browsers that I use. Is this malware embedded somewhere in Firefox code and how can it be removed? I am using FF 102.11.0esr (64-bit) on Ubuntu. Is it possible to restore previously deleted pages in FF history? There are instructions for FF in Windows but I am using Ubuntu 16.04 esm and the FF version is 102.10.0esr.

The pages were deleted several days ago and the computer has been shut down and rebooted many times since then.

If it is possible doesn't that defeat the object of deleting history pages?

Hope someone has an idea! Derek

I see some strange behavior of Firefox history sometimes. The situation is as follows. I open a lot of tabs (I have to have hundreds of open tabs sometimes). Then at some moment I delete all history for all time. In old times, if I switch to whatever tab after clearing all history, the left arrow in my Firefox window was greyed out. If I right-clicked on that left arrow, I saw nothing, and if I pressed Alt + left arrow on my keyboard, nothing would happen. All those things were logical, because I had my history cleared. However, in the recent years this behavior has changed. In most tabs I still see the old behavior. Sometimes, however, I switch to some tab and I see that the left arrow is not greyed out; if I right-click on it, I see a list of several pages I visited earlier. In a similar way, if I press Alt + left arrow on my keyboard, I can go through pages in that list. I.e., the history for that particular tab (or several tabs, out of many) seems to persist when I clear all of my history. Any comments much appreciated. I get a vague impression that maybe those tabs were "sleeping" somehow when I cleared my history, and now they "wake up" with their part of the whole history still remaining in place.

Hello,

Anyone else having a problem with firefox breaking itself and refusing to load any more pages till you forcibly close it? Open as many new tabs as you want, it will never ever load a new page. Open new firefox windows, still won't load anything. Open edge, chrome or IE and it will instantly load whatever page you want.

Close all the firefox windows and try and start a new one, firefox tells you it's still running and needs to be forcibly closed. Everything back to normal as soon as you do so, besides loosing literally everything you were doing.

I used to just think it was hackaday.io, but it's now clear it's entirely at random when it happens.

This is clearly a firefox issue that's been happening for at least 6 months or more. I've about had it, and am about to start looking for alternatives.

when you select text and right click popup "Search google for 'text marked'" , here google is your FF's default search engine, but for people in multi-lingual region would prefer to search e.g. web in the language of the selected text, which makes more sense for the results.

I wonder if FF could add this function, auto detect the text's language and search in e.g. google.de, google.cn or google.fr?

Which is like the macOS lookup, it detect the text language and point to that dictionary?

FF could be a little more intelligent, right?

Hi: I'm trying to find some way of removing the vertical lines in replies. A previous asking of this same question lead me to attempt to install the 'replywithheader' add-on but it hangs with the "Add ReplyWithHeader? This extension will have permission to: .... Cancel Add" popup box ... It doesn't matter if I click either Cancel or Add, the box just hangs there. Or is there some other way of removing the vertical lines? One might have thought this would be an easily accessible option in the setup.

Thing is that I'm working on a rather long report with other people and we email changes back and forth but each time another vertical line is added. How to nuke ALL the vertical lines? How to stop them from being added in the first place?

I wondered several times why firefox recovers old tabs when it chrashed. now i see that in my profile folder/sessionstore-backups the file recovery.jsonlz4 is some days old (while i was using firefox in the meantime very often) and does not update frequently as requested by about:config browser.sessionstore.interval = 15000 (15s). - this folder or the files are not locked. i can delete/rename them, they are not re-created - there is no file sessionstore.* in the main folder of firefox profile while running firefox - i am using 102.4.0esr (32-Bit) on a company PC (could there be any restrictions?) - the file previous.jsonlz4 seems to be created correctly when firefox is closed normal (which is not my usecase, i want to restore up to date tabs after crashes) - i am not using a private window

do you have any idea?

I've been 99% successful at switching over from Chrome to Firefox, however a major hiccup is that Gmail stops loading on Firefox, though it works on all other browsers just fine.

If I manage to actually open Gmail, I will be able to browse for about 20 seconds before getting an error message that says Gmail is having a problem and to 'refresh to retry' - clicking refresh will make the page crash and show only a white screen. From then onwards, even trying to open Gmail in another tab will not actually redirect you from the current page you are on. It will just update the address bar to say "https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox", however the browser doesn't actually load anything, and the 'refresh' icon shows that nothing is even in the works buffering.

Searching forums shows many people having this issue, and the only effective fix is to clear your cache and refresh the page. Unfortunately, while this technically works in the short-term, it is only a matter of time (sometimes under 5 minutes) before it crashes again.

As you can imagine, this it really limits productivity - it's hard to get on a roll when you have to keep stopping every couple of minutes to re-attach the wheels.

Forums show that this issue has been happening to users for years, and unfortunately nobody has been able to offer a long term solution, leading me to have to use a seperate browser just to access my emails. One user suggested switching away to a completely different email server such as Protonmail and ditching Gmail entirely but 1. that is comically inconvenient advice, 2. not viable as an organisation I volunteer with uses gmail, and 3. doesn't help fix the actual issue in the first place, which many users besides myself are facing.

Is anybody able to offer a reliable fix for this? Is there a browser extention that is causing the issue, or one that can fix it?

All help would be greatly appreciated as I find this issue to be a huge source of frustration from a browser that I am otherwise quite happy with.

I understand that the following is necessary as described in the FAQ. I lost my two-step authentication device, can’t find my backup authentication codes and don’t have a logged-in device. Can I request to delete my Firefox Account?

Is it possible to remove the backup account related to such a locked-out account to allow that account to be associated with the new account created?

Note that the Authy locked account has been abandoned on Firefox for a long time. Not certain if there is a limit time-frame of no account access after which the account may be declared abandoned and may therefore have the backup account unlocked for a new account association to the backup account.

Greetings, I've checked a few articles in Firefox to help with my question, but none of them are helping. (Here's the main article: http://example.com.) Here's the situation. Say I go to a website's Contact page and click the button to contact someone, a window appears and asks me what app I want to use to open the email. Gmail is my default email, and Firefox is my default browser, and I use Windows 10. When I open the window of options (see attached screenshot) to open the email, and I then click "Choose Other Application" (other than Firefox), I don't see the Gmail app anywhere. I then followed the directions in that link above to check my Windows settings, per its suggestion, which I did ... but in those settings, too, I got to a point where the directions no longer matched what I'm seeing on my screen. I didn't see the Gmail app anywhere. Could you let me know in simple layperson's terms how to open Gmail links in Firefox? I don't have a PhD in computer science, so please keep it very simple. Thanks in advance! Best wishes, Bill

For the last week or two I have had an issue with Firefox closing my email (yahoo business mail) tab automatically, every time I download a file from an email.

After opening emial I click to download the file, i have the settings set to ask where I want it saved, and then either while I'm selecting the destination and labeling it, or right after the tab automatically closes. It happens both ways which suggests to me it's occurring after a specified amount of time, not based on completion of an action. And it's happening every time.

Hi all,

So I am a multi-lingual user and changing input languages regularly by pressing Windows key + Spacebar.

In Firefox, I prefer turning "Smooth scrolling" OFF so the page sort-of jumps at a fixed distance instead "decelerates" when scrolling.

So far so good. But recently I noticed this Windows key + Spacebar combination can change Firefox's scrolling behavior.

Steps to reproduce: 1. Add one more language to Windows (I am using Win10 ... not sure about Win11 though) so that Windows key + Spacebar shows the language selecting popup 2. Turn OFF "Use smooth scrolling" in Firefox settings 3. Find a long webpage to test scrolling -- it should be "jumping" 4. On the same page, make sure Firefox is at focus, press Windows key + Spacebar to show that popup 5. Try scrolling again -- it's now scrolling very "smoothly". To my eyes, it's even much smoother than turning on "Use smooth scrolling" 6. Now click somewhere outside of Firefox(i.e. Taskbar) to lose focus then focus back to Firefox and scroll again, the smoothness is lost ... until switching language again.

I personally found it quite annoying... Is there something I can do to stop it from happening?

Thanks,

J
