The update to FF 89 caused a big problem. Large spaces in between the bookmarked web sites when the window unfolds. So now, many bookmarks don't fit in the window, and to get to the bottom - the ones I can't see - I have to click the arrow at the bottom. But making it worse, is that if I do go to the bottom, the next time I open the bookmark tab, the list will open at the bottom (it doesn't revert to the top). So I'd have to scroll up to get to the ones at the top - AND the "Other Bookmarks" tab, where I also store bookmarked sites.

I list my bookmarks in the order they're in so I can get to the ones I go to most often as fast as possible. So they're at the top - I don't have to scroll far to get to them. And the "Other Bookmarks" is hidden when the window opens at the bottom. So I'd have to scroll up to get to that as well.

Also, this update changed the size of the command windows - like the copy/paste window, or the window to get the correct spelling of the word. They're so big, they run from the top of the screen to bottom, instead of a small square. So you'll have to scroll way up to get to the command or word you want.

I did find a way to get it back to what it was:

1. Open a tab and enter about:config, click OK after the warning 2. Search proton, a few will come up, change all the ones that are true to false. One was already false so I kept it, and the last one had a 3, which I kept. 3. Exit and open FF.

This will also revert the right-click command boxes back to small squares.

I posted this on this message board but this was added:

==WARNING: There are plans to remove this preference in the next two months The preference setting was created as a toggle for developers when building the new design. Now that the new interface has shipped, the preference will be removed.

If you have any issues with the new design, please let us know what it is you don't like, and we can try provide more permanent solutions depending on the issue.==

No! Do NOT remove this preference! Either that or just get it back to what it was by default. I do not want longer bookmark menus and larger command windows. It was perfect the way it was.

Is there some way to reduce the white space / padding between bookmark and menu items in the new Proton interface introduced in Firefox 89? I don't have a touchscreen and all the extra white space just means more scrolling to navigate through my bookmarks.

The AskVG site has a 02-June-2021 article at https://www.askvg.com/tip-restore-old-classic-theme-and-ui-in-firefox-89-and-later-versions/ that explains how to disable all the new Proton interface changes in about:config, but is there one specific hidden preference / flag (e.g., browser.proton.toolbar.version) mentioned in that article that controls the spacing between bookmarks and menu items?

There is a also a companion article on AskVG titled https://www.askvg.com/tip-restore-compact-mode-density-option-in-firefox-customize-window/ with instructions on how to change two Density options (browser.compactmode.show and browser.uidensity) in about:config, but I have no idea if changing my density setting to "Compact" would actually decrease white space (padding) between bookmark and menu items.

Today I updated my Firefox Developer Edition to version 89.0b2 and now I just can not look at this browser anymore, "Inspired new tab design" is taking too much space and now became largest and at the same time least information-dense panel in my entire desktop! I searched around the web for a bit in hopes that I will find a theme or an add-on that will revert this particular change but no luck. I really want to revert to old UI look (at least tabs bar), there should be default theme or option to get back to old style. After some investigation I found userChrome.css but don't really want to install it (maybe this is actually the way of doing this kind of styling). Please help me revert UI design to old one.

Hello,

I just installed the new update. The new tab design is totally confusing/unclear to me. Especially the fact that the new tabs don't have a "seperator-line" to the next tab. Thats totally disturbing to me. It's really difficult for me to keep the overview about my normally around 60 tabs now. Is there an option to switch back to the old tabs look and feel? Are there other options to customize the look of the tab bar?

Thanks in advance and Greetz!

Good afternoon. My Firefox has been updated to the new version but I noticed that the font size in my bookmarks dropdown menu has increased. I would prefer to make it smaller as it used to all fit in one column without the need to scroll. Could someone tell me how, or if this can be done with the new version? Thanks and hope to hear back soon.

When I try to screenshot and download an image it screenshots multiple images instead. My OS is Windows 10 and I'm having this problem when trying to screenshot and download an image from Instagram. I right click on the image as I always have and it screenshots and saves multiple images instead. I never had this problem before updating to Firefox 88 and I've been using the screenshot feature for well over two years. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and I'm still having the same problem. The image I'm trying to save is the one on the upper right.

First of all: I tried to "give feedback" first, by going to that crowdicity website. I had to create an account, then I created an "idea" but it wasn't even allowed by the mods.

The 89 design is not user friendly, it takes away too much of my screen. I want to see the website, not some bloated tabs. And what on earth is meant by unsupported in the customize menu when I try to select compact? I always recommendet Firefox, among my friends and family as well as among my customers. Since day 1 I was with you, but this is just the absolute opposite of user friendliness. Even Microsoft Edge shows more of the actual website, I'm trying to look at. No "unsupported" compact mode needed, it is already even less obstrusive than that.

There were so many users who begged you not to do this. But you didn't listen. I want to be nice and kind but you gotta listen to your users, not just rely on your telemetry data. If someone chooses to install Firefox, a lot of people have the ability and knowledge to turn off that stuff. Those are your most loyal users. Listen to them.

The new base system theme for FireFox is not accessible. I cannot visually tell when one tab shifts to another. Three's not enough contrast. There's no line that marks the shift from one tab to the next. I tried countless contributor themes and they're all lacking the same feature - a physical break between tabs. Fades on text are also not accessible. Please fix this issue!
