How do I get Firefox to open to Google when I click on a new tab? It used be set to do that before Firefox updated itself. Now it opens to a page with a bunch of different website thumbnail. I don't care about that. I hate it. I just want it to open right to Google. Please tell me how to correct this problem. Thanks.

I had to reinstall W7 on my HD. I saved all of the app data. The bookmark and open tabs list are large and I do not want to import them all to the new install. I want to convert the files to html so I can pick what I reinstall and save the html file for reference. I have searched and don't seem to find a way to convert the jsonlz4 files to html. Is there no converter or easy way to do this? Thanks.

I have tried

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste newtab and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and change from the default (about:newtab) to about:blank.

When i double click on the browser.newtab.url it gives me the option to edit the url address. If i delete it or if i replace it with about:blank it just goes back to the url it has set.

Status: user set, Type: string, Value: http://search.conduit.com/?ctid=CT3314958&octid=EB_ORIGINAL_CTID&SearchSource=69&CUI=&SSPV=EB_SSPV&Lay=1&UM=2&UP=SP31A63AA1-176A-4724-A794-2FC07C141F7E

The last time i had this issue i solved it by deleting and reinstalling firefox. I don't want to do that every time this happens. Ideally I would like to be able to type into the address bar automatically when I open a new tab, without clicking there. That was my previous setting and it seemed to change without reason. It did not come back when i reinstalled firefox.

I normally have FF save my previous session and I had quite a number of useful tabs open. For some unknown reason, FF crashed and when I was able to load it again, all my open tabs were gone and I'd like to recover them. I read in a post (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1057949) that "Open and closed tabs are stored as part of the session data in the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder."

Fortunately, I backup my entire HDD weekly and had a backup only two days old, so I mounted that backup as a separate drive letter and went to my FF profile in that backup, but there was no sessionstore.js file to be found. What I want to do is to go into my FF profile on the mounted backup and find the file containing my tabs as of my last backup two days ago, then copy that file into my FF profile on my C: drive. That way, my hope is to be able to reboot FF with all my tabs as they were at that time, as that will give me over 90 percent of the tabs I've lost.

For reference, I'm running FF45 under W7 Pro 64-bit SP1.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Last time Firefox updated, I managed to find information online about moving the website tabs so they were below the bookmarks instead of at the top of the screen. It was a huge pain-in-the-butt to do.

After a recent re-install, the tabs have moved themselves back to the top of the screen and nothing I do seems to be able to move them back below the bookmarks.

Is there a way I can move the tabs that doesn't involve spending hours hunting through posts on the web, changing hidden Firefox settings, and recoding .css files?

If not, why do you not give the option to move the tabs wherever the user wants? Especially when it makes far more sense to have the website tabs directly above the website being viewed, at least in my opinion?

I'm currently using Firefox 85.0.2 (64-bit).

If your only solution is to tell me to: 1.Restart my computer 2.Start Firefox in safemode 3.Use another hotkey to open a new tab that's not middle mouse button.

Then don't even bother replying. As I've done the first two and it made no difference and 3rd option is a solution at all.

This is frustrating and I'm slightly upset that after reading 20+ Pages of the same problem dating back from 2011 that there are no answers.

I am on a fresh install Windows XP (Yes I know old school) with firefox version 27.0.1.

Is there any way to duplicate the functionality of the old Tab Mix Plus addon with regards to the minimum size of tabs, and/or adding new tabs onto another line at the top of your browser when there are enough open tabs?

I'm not exactly certain how it was done, but basically there was a minimum width that a tab could occupy, say 10% of screen width as an example. When 10 tabs were opened they would appear as per usual at the top of the browser. When the 11th tab was opened, a second tab bar would appear just below the first. You could continue to open any number of tabs and they would remain wide enough to read the titles and would never have to use the drop down at the edge of the screen to select tabs that were hidden.

Please let me know if there's a setting somewhere to enable this behavior again, thanks.

When I open Firefox in a new tab, I would like to have it open to a page of my choice. Right now, it seems there is no way to change that, but previous versions had this feature, and I put my computer to "google.com" for example, so I could be ready to search, whenever I pressed "command-T" (for new tab.) Are we stuck on Yahoo, now, or whatever Firefox chooses for new tabs, or is there a way to change this?

First, this delta search site kept opening every time I opened a new tab. So I got rid of that, but then every time I opened a new tab, the page was blank. I followed the about:config directions which would help me get the "pinned tabs" page back, but every time I closed FF and reopened, the same issue would reoccur. Now, every time I open a new tab, it goes to my homepage. I Just want to know how to get the pinned tabs back permanently.

I had to reset my firefox this morning, because something has installed Snap.do, and now every time I click the new tab button, it is completely blank. There is no "show/hide" Icon, and there are none of the pinned sites. It's just blank and white. I use the new tab page to go to websites I use often, and it's annoying that it is not there. I have tried everything I have found so far on here, and nothing has worked. Does anyone know what to do?

Hello! I was wondering if it's possible to configure the Firefox in such a way that the new tabs open exactly the same URL that is typed in the Options. I tried to set browser.newtab.url to about:home but it gives me Firefox Google custom page instead of the startup page that I've set in the Options. Another way I tried is to set the browser.newtab.url value in about:config to the same URL as the startup page URL, but then if I change the URL in the options the new tab URL is not changed. So the question is whether it's possible to make the Firefox read the URL that is used for the startup page and go there when opening a new tab.

Firefox always used to open a new tab with a simple url, which if I clicked in it would automatically become selected, so it was easy to overtype an different url.

Lately each new tab is opening with along string like this: http://www.google.com.au/firefox?gfe_rd=ctrl&ei=jlGcUpi5JquN8Qfz5YGYDQ&gws_rd=cr

And when I click in it the cursor is placed at the end of the string, so I have to select the whole string with Ctrl and A or backspace to get rid of it. What changed and how do I get my short url with auto click / select back

Also, I have opened in safe mode without any addons, didn't make any difference.

Thanks
