On 30 August 2023, when opening Mozilla the second time in a day, a pop up window emerged asking whether I allow Mozilla to make changes on my hard drive (or: hardware - I cannot remember now) due to the updates.
I clicked yes, as otherwise Mozilla would not work, then an opening site appeared about the new features of the update, and talking about the possibility of the VPN service.
It seems that now I am working on the latest version of Mozilla released first on 29 August 2023 - 117.0. When checking in the settings, the date of the installation was also 29 August and not 30 August. This made me puzzled, why I got this pop out window only on 30th, and in addition only after the second usage of the browser (however, when checking in my comp settings, the update of Mozilla is dated 30 August 2023)... In addition, as never before I have seen Mozilla asking for making hard drive changes, I got worried whether it was not a kind of virus or other malware pretending to be Mozilla.
Could you please confirm whether the pop-out window asking for the changes to hard drive was indeed just Mozilla asking for valid changes? I am very worried I got a malware on my computer, although the antivirus scan does not show anything.
I have asked some friends and they had the actualization automatically done without this pop-out window.
I have checked some online discussions and verified in the properties that Mozilla is NOT allowed to run as administrator. Also, the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" was also unchecked.
Thank you in advance for your answer!

I'm not able to log into at least two different websites after installing Firefox on a brand new computer (e.g., actblue.com). The page merely reloads as if I didn't enter the log in information correctly.
None of that has worked. I'm out of ideas.

Firefox just turns into a black screen and becomes unusable. It has been happening for a long time now and i have checked RAM and CPU usage and they are all fine, as I explored potential causes.
I will be using firefox and it just turns all black on all screens and is completely unusable. To use it again I have to force close all windows and reopen it and it works again.
This is a frequent issue that I have seen

The Backstory: As a graphic designer, I save things from the web all the time--stock websites, client downloads, all that jazz. Because I have a ton of clients, I have the "Always Ask You Where to Save Files" option selected, and it usually does a pretty good job of remembering where I want to save stuff.
However, I've encountered a crazy bug in the last month: When I save images--jpegs specifically--from Adobe Stock, it will pop up the "where to save" window, and it will be a certain client's folder. (For clarity, we'll call this Tammy's folder.) I'll navigate to the new location I want to save assets for the current project I'm working on (let's say this is Mike's folder). Then I'll download another jpeg for Mike's folder from Adobe, but it will start me back in Tammy's folder again. This means I have to re-navigate to Mike's folder, every single time I want to save anywhere other than Tammy's folder.
Here's the weird thing: When I save .ai/vector files from Adobe stock, it remembers the last folder I saved an .ai/vector file to. Same for .pngs and other file types. On other stock websites, it will also remember, whether they are jps, zips, svgs--it works fine. It's JUST jpegs (not jpgs) from Adobe Stock.
I've tried clearing cookies, data, resetting the download location, rebooting my computer in between all the changes, and even going into the about:config to try to fix it that way. Short of uninstalling/reinstalling firefox, are there any other solutions I should try?
Thanks!

I just got a new laptop and downloaded Firefox for it. But I am getting pop up ads which say they're coming FROM Mozilla Firefox. I have to click them away, as small pop ups in the bottom right corner of the screen. They're typical of any spam. But some also create their own tabs!

A few days ago I was downloading a ZIP file and was warned that "This file contains a virus or malware". Fine, thank you for telling me but now how do I seeing the same warning every time I start Firefox? The file in question does not exist on my computer so far as I can tell and I did a thorough search through 3.5tB of storage on the machine to make sure. How do I stop this warning?

Using Firefox 117.0 (64 bit) with Windows 10 Pro 22H2, I have www.google.co.uk set as the home page. Whenever I use the homepage search box to enter a search term, Firefox stalls for about 10 seconds before showing the search results. Selecting any search results opens the relevant page straightaway. Subsequent new searches using either the search box at the top of the results page or the home page again also has the 10 second delay. Using the search box in the Menu Bar does not have this delay - the results are shown straightaway. This has been happening for the past two weeks or so and using the previous version of Firefox. I've been using Firefox for many years and have never had this problem. Chrome works fine. I've tried all the "solutions" found on the internet, refreshed Firefow, tried a new profile, troubleshoot mode, etc, without any change. Also, within the past 24 hours, I can no longer open www.screwfix.com - with www.screwfix.com in the address bar, I get a completely white page without any error message. Screwfix opens fine with Chrome on this machine and with Firefox on Android tablet and phone. Please can you help with this. I'm in the UK. Thanks

My goal is to make the javascript: protocol work again.
I think I need to 'about:config' in order to change what I need to change. But I don't know what the Thing is called -- You see, there's no key to the GUI.
The Thing: Users paste URLs into a text box. What's the name of that text box? I will look in 'about:config' for that name. Maybe I'll find the solution to the following Problem.
The Problem: If I paste this... javascript:Math.floor(10*(70000000000/(3*3600)-(192)*125)/(24/1.001)/1000)/10 ...into the text box, "javascript:" gets stripped so that the text becomes... Math.floor(10*(70000000000/(3*3600)-(192)*125)/(24/1.001)/1000)/10 ...and FFox responds with "Hmm. That address doesn’t look right."
If I manually add "javascript:", I still get the FFox complaint.
How can I get the correct operation of that text box (whatever it's called)? Also, how can I stop the drop-down behavior. I hate it.
Thanks, Mark.

Hello:
I must use the magnifier that came with Windows or I cannot read the screen. All was fine until Firefox updated. Now, when I try to use the magnifier, Firefox and all the sites I am using freeze. The entire screen fades out, and an hour glass shows up. But nothing happens after that. I have to go to the task manager and close Firefox, then start it up again.
I checked for Windows updates and everything is current. I am using Windows 10.
How can I fix this?
