Hi,

I am using Firefox on my Macbook Pro.

When I quit Firefox, the windows close but the programme remains open on my dock with the dot underneath, as if it's still open.

Force quit doesn't work, and it is not showing up in activity monitor, so there is nothing to force kill there.

I then can't restart Firefox without restarting my computer.

I've been assuming this is a script problem. It happens on both my laptop and desktop, often on gmail while clicking the down arrow to scroll through an open email dialog box, but not exclusively.

The first thing I did was this from the FAQ A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(B) In the search box above the list, type or paste flash and pause while the list is filtered

(C) Double-click the dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode preference to switch its value from false to true.

That originally helped. It turned FF from totally unuseable to something that at least functions. But it crashes almost every day. When it does, it is easiest to just ctrl-alt-delete it. Loading it again---it works fine suddenly. It's become a pain, though. There was another FAQ on extending the time to wait for scripts to complete, but that has not helped. There seems to be no point to safe mode. I would really rather not delete my profile and reload everything. Particularly, since I don't think that is the problem.

I have OSX 11.3. I followed the instructions to renew my profile (Firefox instability issues fixed) then tried to copy the old book mark file (in the old Firefox folder on my desk top) to the location of the new one. I tried this both with Firefox running and without. The image attached shows what happens when I follow the instructions to find the new profile. There is no Firefox folder!

Recently Firefox has started crashing a lot because the plugin container stops. I've tried a lot of different things and I'm getting tired of constantly researching new things to try online.

Things that I tried from the crash troubleshooting page: Made sure Firefox, my plugins, Windows, and my drivers are all updated Scanned for viruses and spyware Scanned and repaired my hard drives Since most sources said it's probably Flash causing the problems, I've enabled/disabled hardware acceleration, both through Flash and through Firefox options. It was originally disabled on both when the crashes began.

I haven't tried Safe Mode or disabling different addons and plugins because the crash doesn't happen at any specific time. Sometimes it crashes as soon as I start Firefox, and sometimes it doesn't crash at all the entire day. But a decent amount of the time it crashes every few hours. Since I don't know what's triggering it, disabling all my addons or individual ones and just waiting for it to crash doesn't sound like a good idea to me, since I wouldn't know if the problem was fixed or if it just wasn't crashing at the time, and if I have to go a substantial amount of time without my addons, I'd rather just switch browsers (which I really don't want to do).

The most recent crash's ID is: bp-2fe4d28b-c5ce-4419-9299-c56172160115.

Normally I have about 20 or so tabs open, mainly stuff I want to come back to with a few active tabs. This has been my practice for years and I haven't had any trouble with it before unless the tabs get really out of hand, in which case I go through and prune them back. I start up Pandora radio as soon as I start Firefox and have it loaded constantly. I watch a decent amount of Youtube, but some of the crashes happen when I'm not on Youtube or any other Flash website other than Pandora. And a few times it's crashed before I even loaded Pandora. Anyway, if there's anything you can do to help, I'd really appreciate it! This has had me tearing my hair out for a week or so now.

I've been running Firefox 43.0.4 without issue until today. For apparently no reason, it suddenly began crashing every time I tried accessing a particular website that I previously had no trouble loading at all (http://inara.cz). I can access the website in Safe Mode, but nothing else works--disabling addons, refreshing Firefox, clearing cache and cookies, turning off Hardware Acceleration all did nothing to fix the problem. As a test, I tried accessing the same website on Chrome and had no trouble loading it, so I'm led to believe that it's an isolated problem with Firefox.

I have experienced this same issue once before with Google as the culprit website on a previous version of Firefox, and the only way to fix it was to uninstall and reinstall the program. I'd really appreciate any help with this issue that (hopefully) won't require me to reinstall the program again. Thanks!

Hi guys, I'm having problems with Firefox since yesterday, it was working fine before, nothing has changed (Same OS, same hardware). My problem is the following: while I have hardware acceleration enabled, if I scroll a facebook page up and down the screen will turn black except for videos, but after minimized it looks "normal" again but with the videos blinking either with an image from the video itself and with an image of my facebook page (Yes, INSIDE the video, like Inception), I was able to take a screen of this too.

What I tried: 1) checked my video drivers and they are up to date; 2) Browsing Facebook with Chrome (With hardware acceleration enabled there too) but it works fine; 3) Disabled hardware acceleration; <-- this fixes it 4) Unchecked hardware acceleration for flash videos.

On most sites, menus now flash open when users scroll onto the top of the menu.

This may be useful for some users, who have trouble with clicks, but it is a problem for some other users, who have trouble with flashing lights. For example, they hurt me and trigger my migraines.

On many sites, menus now flash closed when users scroll off of the top of the menu.

This makes it impossible to use the menus, because if we try to scroll to from the top to the entries, the menu closes. I have specific greasemonkey scripts for some sites, but that's not a good solution, and I don't know how to program my own scripts.

This has been a known bug for at least 4 years.

The former bug is common across browsers, but the latter does not appear in Safari and may be specific to Firefox.

There ought to be a way to only open menus after clicking on them, and avoid closing menus while using them.

When I open Firefox, it will jump a line up and down continuously. I can stop this by hitting esc key. But it will randomly restart.

When I try to type into the search engine box, it will not input there and will open the find in page bar. I can't type into the find in page box then. After multiple tries, I can close the find in page bar. Then sometimes I can type into the search engine box.
Sometimes in an input box, it will suddenly stop typing in that box. Sometimes it opens the find in page, sometimes I seem to be in limbo, and it isn't going anywhere.
I don't seem to have this trouble in Word or Excel. It seems to be only in Firefox and Thunderbird. I don't have IE anymore, so I can't tell you if that is affected also.
It keeps hijacking my home page. Even though Advanced System Care is supposed to protect against that.
Sometimes multiple windows explorer windows will open. Like 20 or so. Then I can't use the bottom taskbar to close the windows or anything else.
These problems follow into Thunderbird. If I select multiple emails, suddenly the page will jump up and down. Sometimes it won't delete messages. I have to highlight them and drag them to the trash bin.
I ran Avast! scan. I use Avast! Pro. Nothing found.
I made an Avast! rescue disk on a new USB thumb drive using a clean computer. Ran the scan. Nothing found.
I have tried Firefox and Thunderbird in safe modes. Still have the problems. I thought for a short time I didn't, but it came back. Drat. I was hoping this was simply an add-on problem. I ran Firefox Health, and it showed 8 startups this month. Seems light to me.... But all the previous startups were quick until recently and then some were quick and at least one was at the top of the scale.

I am a digital artist and I need to be able to see the colors correctly on the things I upload without switching browsers.

The original image files I am uploading display correct colors in the actual file. I upload them, then open the address in Safari, the colors display correctly. But in Firefox they display significantly more blue they they are supposed to. It doesn't matter where I am uploading them to. I can even take a screenshot and the difference is obvious.

They are PNGs most of the time. I am on a mac.

I've been having connection problems for a few weeks now. I thought an update might solve the problem, but no. The problem is this: Sometimes, when I open a link in a new tab, the tab will just load forever. But when I reload after a minute or so, it works fine. I really don't know what caused the problem. I didn't change anything. I tried narrowing it down to a specific add-on, but the problem persists. And please, don't tell me I should reset Firefox or something like that. I hope you can help me.

hello,

I'm having constant trouble with my Firefox 43.0.4 on Mac OS X 10.10.5. It happens several times every day (!) that it just crashes like for no reason ...maybe sometimes preferably on Youtube - though I'm not sure. It just happens randomly and again and again ...and when it crashed once and I click the restart button on the crash report window it almost always doesn't open a new window, it just crashes again ...and crash report after crash report will pop up...

Would really appreciate some help!

Fresh install of Windows 7 Pro x64, and using Firefox 64bit version 43.0.4. This issue has been happening for several days.

Firefox will work like a champ for several hours, then stop responding to new lookups. The circles on my tabs keep spinning. It reacts the same way when a DNS Server is offline.

If I open up IE, it goes right to google.com but Firefox is still not doing lookups. I can close tabs, open new ones, open private browsing etc. - it still hangs.

I do a ping test to 4.2.2.2 and have solid connectivity with 16ms. My IP DNS Servers are set manually to Open DNS Servers: 208.67.220.222 and 208.67.222.220. I have tried different DNS Servers but the issue still occurs.

Any ideas?

I've been using Firefox since 2004, and it hurts me to say this, but it has become almost unusable. I have a brand-new installation and profile, and the user interface is so slow and laggy I can't use it. As I type this, there are numerous lags between when I type and when the letters appear. Scrolling pages has constant infuriating delays. It is so bad, Firefox will often just crash. This usually occurs when the UI within the viewport becomes completely unresponsive and I click the reload button. The reload button will spin for a minute or 2 and then the program crashes. I have maybe 100 or more items in my about:crashes. Every time it crashes, I submit the crash report. Here are some from the past few days:

bp-894f9c08-81b7-49ab-821b-cf25f2160120 bp-d3ada675-6108-4c7d-8174-b9e142160119 bp-593181bc-f270-44fe-87c2-9f3162160118 bp-e882d003-0831-4836-867f-9088f2160118 bp-05d35c41-07c4-4710-a96d-26c242160115

I have tried every troubleshooting thing available, and nothing has fixed it. I tried:

new installation new profile the settings recommended here http://develop.alpdesigns.ch/pages/other/speed_firefox.html the settings recommended here: http://codebetter.com/darrellnorton/2005/01/28/speeding-up-firefox-the-right-way/ disabling hardware acceleration disabling smooth scrolling

NOTHING WORKS. I am so frustrated! I am a web programmer and I frequently have 20+ tabs open. I have NO issues with Chrome, but if I have even 1 tab open Firefox can't handle it. The delays of ANY TIME I click the mouse, type, scroll, etc. are just killing me. There are also quite a few addons I use, but the user interface problems occur no matter if they are installed or not.

I continue to use Firefox because Firebug and the other amazing developer tools, but I can't use it if it's going to be this slow out of the box. Is there anything else I can try?

All of my emails and folders disappear and I can't receive emails, though I can send them. If I remove all cookies before logging into hotmail, then hotmail works perfectly. Two hotmail accounts are accessed on this computer and only one is having problems while the other one is working perfectly. If the other hotmail account isn't logged into my hotmail continues to work perfectly, but as soon as the other acc is logged into, I have problems with my hotmail unless I 'remove all cookies' in Firefox.

I have a Mac computer and have updated to OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 and refreshed Firefox to try and solve the problem but none of that has worked.

Hello

We are a school district with several computer labs, DeepFreeze is install on these workstations using a "generic user" logon, so when the computer is restarted for each student, Firefox will ask to set "default browsing" and "import" questions, we are needing to script this in a pre-answer file so the students don't have to continue to ask these questions each time a computer is rebooted. How can someone assist. We appreciate all that you can "do" for us.

Thanks,
