I'm using Firefox 85.0.2 . . . I was doing this (below), to customize my header and footer, but in this version of FF, I no longer see this in Options - only in: about:config . . . keyword "footer" . . . there, I would have to change it for 5 different ways of printing (to printers or to PDF)

I need to get rid of printing the URL in the footer - many times, it's too long, and I don't need it.

Where did the Page Setup option go?

I see in the current Print Options, you have to go to - More Settings / Margin / Custom - to see those. Why would they put this so many levels down?

It used to be: File / Page Setup / Margins & Header/Footer . . . "Customize" Headers & Footers:

Option 1 (left) . . . there are two leading spaces:

 > > &T
 > > &U . . . &D . . . &PT

Option 2 (left) . . . get rid of the ">"s, and just have the two leading spaces:

 &T
 &U . . . &D . . . &PT

In Ubuntu 18.04, I bring up a new page, click in the search bar in the middle of the page. Then when I start typing it jumps to the address bar although I have already placed and preferred the search bar to the right. No! NO! NO!

I use Duck Duck Go but Google does the same.

It is bad enough that the upgrade was automatically loaded but on top of that, changing preferences including dumping my home page. Change privacy settings without asking ( to a lower level on top of that ).

Really POOR form.

I want the home page to be blank when I open the browser, I want the home button to a URL. This was possible in older versions, and when you then updated the browser it maintained this difference - if it was already set. I did that once but I don't remember how far back on versions that is an option. Is it possible to do this in 89? If not, how far back should I go to install, make my home page and home button settings, then update to the current version. Then we're all good.

If you could supply a link to the correct FF file (windows 10, 64bit) that would be even more good.

thanks

So I've got Proton UI forced on me today in 92.0 update and accordingly had to spend my entire evening trying to repair all of the damage. So far I've managed to fix menu spacing and the way tabs look all while not breaking previous walls of text in userChrome.css meant to fix even older UI problems. Still one thing I failed to find any solutions to is the bookmark drop-down menus color issue. Those menus used to be gray, but now they are all bright white, which to me is super annoying. Any tips on how to fully recolor those?

Hi, I am using the dark mode in firefox which is god sent boon to persons having glaucoma, with dark mode in firefox and dark reader add on. This was going well and after a recent update, I could not find it working. The dark mode is enabled and dark reader was there, but the browsing pages only shows in white. Has firefox changed anything recently to have this issue? If I miss something would the experts say, how to get back my dark browsing experience in all sites. If I find anything not visible in some sites, I used to go the windows properties and change the contrast theme to windows basic blue theme and then switched back to dark theme. this was helping the glaucoma persons very much. please, say how to solve this problem

After choosing a particular theme, Firefox took over my default windows mode color from light to dark (Personalize/Colors/Choose Your Default Windows Mode--light or dark). If I manually switch back to Light then I cannot check the box for colors to be changed for start, task bar and action center since this box is faded out and non-responsive. I greatly dislike the new black background. I do not want my theme choices to affect my default settings. Any way to override this invasive feature?

Hello!

I have been using this userChrome.css code to hide the tab bar if there is only one tab (on Windows):

tab:only-of-type, tab:only-of-type + #tabs-newtab-button {

   display: none !important;

}

#tabbrowser-tabs, #tabbrowser-arrowscrollbox, #tabbrowser-tabs > .tabbrowser-arrowscrollbox {
   min-height: 0 !important;

}

Since one of the recent Firefox updates, this code does no longer work. Maybe because there is a new element in the tab bar: A drop-down list at the right.

Any idea how to make the above code work again?

Peter

I am trying to change the keyboard shortcut of the Tools → Downloads menu (opening up the downloads).

I accidentally click that sometimes and it is quite annoying, so I thought I'll switch the shortcuts to a more complex one to avoid these mistakes ^+⌘+J and when I remap that in the Keyboard preferences, the new shortcuts shows up in the menu, and it starts working but the old shortcut ⌘+J is still working.

I believe that is a bug in Firefox.

Hello,

I am wondering why userChrome.css is not loading. toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets is set to true (about:config). I loaded userChrome.css opening the Profile Folder in about:support and dragging and dropping a "chrome" folder that contains userChrome.css respecting case sensitivity and file types. So the file now is under C:\Users\marce\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\sv6gplmb.default-release-1681224431322\chrome. The css is simple, it is valid and it works in the Style Editor:

.search-wrapper .search-handoff-button, .search-wrapper input {

 background: var(--newtab-background-color-secondary) var(--newtab-search-icon) 16px center no-repeat;
 background-size: 24px;
 padding-inline-start: 52px;
 padding-inline-end: 10px;
 padding-block: 0;
 width: 100%;
 box-shadow: 12px 12px 6px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.32);
 border: 1px solid transparent;
 border-radius: 8px;
 color: var(--newtab-text-primary-color);
 -moz-context-properties: fill;
 fill: var(--newtab-text-secondary-color);

}

.top-site-outer .tile {

 border-radius: 8px;
 box-shadow: 12px 12px 6px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.32);
 background-color: var(--newtab-background-color-secondary);
 justify-content: center;
 margin: 0 auto;
 height: 80px;
 width: 80px;
 cursor: pointer;
 position: relative;
 align-items: center;
 color: var(--newtab-text-secondary-color);
 display: flex;
 font-size: 32px;
 font-weight: 200;
 text-transform: uppercase;

}

.ds-card-grid.ds-card-grid-border .ds-card:not(.placeholder) {

 border-radius: 8px;
 box-shadow: 12px 12px 6px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.32);

}

.card-outer .card {

 border-radius: 8px;
 box-shadow: 12px 12px 6px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.32);
 height: 100%;

}

However, userChrome.css does show up on the left column in the style editor. Very odd. I restarted the browser of course.

Is this no longer supported? I am using Firefox (regular edition, not dev or nightly) and Windows 11.

Hope someone can help! Thanks in advance

This again!

This was resolved about a year ago; now the problem is back, as of updating to Firefox 113.0.1 this evening.

Initially post-update the close tab button was in a weird, random place on the tab bar. I have adjusted the margins to put the button back where it's supposed to be!

I changed :

.tabbrowser-tab .tab-close-button {
  opacity: 0;
  margin-left: -4.5px !important;
  margin-right: 2px !important;
}

to:

.tabbrowser-tab .tab-close-button {
  opacity: 0;
  margin-left: -4.5px !important;
  margin-right: 35px !important;
}

to move the button back onto the left. That may seem like a drastic change but that's the lowest value I could find which produced the result I want.

However, it's not quite the result I want! As of updating to 113.0.1, the tab title itself now disappears altogether on hover.

I have tried to correct this in CSS using the .tab-text and .tab-label attributes, but without any luck so far.

Can anybody help me with this, before I'm forced to downgrade to Firefox 112?

Better yet... how about we just make this an option in Settings, as it should be?!

This: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2021/04/19/changes-to-themeable-areas-of-firefox-in-version-89/

Says that I can’t have lines separating my unused tabs anymore. This is SO annoying. Can anyone help me get borders between my unused tabs?

Also, WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS Mozilla? Now I have to stop EVERYTHING that I am doing and research how I can make your browser work the way I want it to. Why do you always assume that you know what is best for me?

I tried the "Stylish" add-in but when I try to install a specific style from their site - nothing happens.

The Firefox Universe is extremely vast, and trying to Google “lines between my unused tabs” is getting me nowhere. I don’t know how to develop themes. I don’t code. I just want the browser to look like it did last week. Is it really so much to ask?

Every. Single. Time. I update Firefox - I regret it!!!

Why, why, why do the devs keep pushing asthetic design changes that user obviouslly relly don't want? You got $450 million from Google, so maybe you're doing it on purpose to drive FF users away.

Remember when FF had over 25% market share? And now you're at less than 3.5%. That's because you keep messing with the FF interface. Take for example you're unwanted chunky new double spaced menus and bookmarks. Everybody hates them. You know that. Why not listen to the last of the FF users?

Why not give use end-users a voice in how Firefox looks? Let us OPT OUT of cosmetic design changes. I've never been asked my opinion in a survey and you killed-off the FF feed back feature. Why? Because too many people don't like what your doing? Since Google essentially owns you now, are trying to kill off FF for them? Because you're doing a great job of it!

Hello. Before the "proton" update to the Firefox UI, I had nicely saved space in my browser by putting the navbar up on the same level with the menu bar which is able to make the UI area of Firefox take up less vertical space on my screen. Proton broke this however, so I reverted.

What sort of userchrome.css code do I now need to use in order to put the menu bar and navbar on the same level, like the attached image?
