Firefox version 145.0 in Linux Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS. When I open Firefox all tabs from previous session are gone. On "Startup" I have checked "Open previous windows and tabs". Which worked before but not now. It is very frustrating. How do I fix? The Profile Manager opens the settings and "Open previous windows and tabs" is checked. Checking "ask before closing multiple tabs" doesn't help.

Firefox runs fine most of the time. If I right-click to download an image, or click a link to download a PDF or other file, or Save HTML, I see the "Save file" dialog, click Save and then Firefox freezes up for a while, maybe a minute or two. Pages won't scroll. I can't switch tabs. I can bring up a different firefox window and it redraws its contents, but I can't scroll or do anything else.

This didn't happen a month ago, then one day after a system upgrade, it happens every time. I'm using FF 123.0.1 on Arch Linux. 64GB RAM, so it's not a memory shortage. I have upgraded one or two times more since the upgrade when this appeared. Chromium is not affected, Thunderbird is fine, and all other software continues to be fine as before, including when saving files. Only FF has this problem.

What is the problem and solution? Are there ways to gather more info to diagnose the problem, if needed?

After the last Linux upgrade to 36.0.2 the password or user name hot links only work once. The first time the link is gray and will activate. The second time I try and use this feature the link is not gray and will not activate.

Every time this happens I have to close Firefox and reopen it. Then I get one more shot at auto loading a password before it stops working.

When I do "save as " action for an image in the browser it opens dialogue window to save selected image. Unfortunately it displays files and folders in some random order, rather than my preferred order (sorted alphabetically by name, followed by sorting by type).

I can see no rhyme or reason to the way Firefox lists files and folders in the dialogue window, so every time I am saving an image I have to sort things by name and type before I can find what I want.

This is not permanent so I have to repeat this action every time I save an image.

How do I, please set application preferences? to make this setting permanent?

I use Firefox 134.0.2 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 24.04.

Some (not all) web sites show up only after a delay of exactly 30 seconds. The attached screenshot shows that this delay is due to DNS resolution. This behavior is reproducible by simply closing Firefox, opening it again and entering the same web site once more. Once this initial delay of 30 seconds for DNS resolving has passed the web site can be browsed normally.

Using Google Chrome, Opera or even the Tor Browser on the same system works without any significant delay. Also a DNS lookup from the console returns data almost immediately.

As the delay is always exactly 30 seconds this looks like some DNS resolver timeout only showing up when using Firefox.

Neither starting Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode nor (as often suggested) disabling IPV6 for DNS by setting network.dns.disableIPv6 to true did help.

Any idea how to fix this 30 seconds delay?

Many thanks for any help, Felix

For about 2 weeks now my Firefox Desktop v. 128.0.3 (Mozilla-Flatpak - 1.0) freezes within 30 mins of use.

No good waiting, nothing responds except the exit button.

Clearly, there's a flaw in a recent update.

I'm on Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS and my Firefox is from Flatpak.

While writing this I got a Flatpak update for Firefox and Firefox.Locale - whatever that is.

So I'll park my question till I close and reopen Firefox - hopefully with a release from the big freeze-up.

When I have multiple tabs open, around the 6th tab, the entire computer freezes. I have to press the physical button to shut down and restart. This behavior started with the last Firefox update. It doesn't happen when I use Brave browser. What changed to cause this?

I'm running Mozilla Firefox for Linux Mint mint 100 - 1.0 version 141.0.3 (64 bit) on Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon. These are the latest versions of Mint and of Firefox for Mint.

This issue is happening with every newly installed add-on, but not with add-ons installed on or before Aug 3, 2024. The add-ons are installed via addons.mozilla.org. To rule out the possibility that it's happening only with specific add-ons, I also installed one of the random recommendations on that page, Augmented Steam which has 54,248 users, and it happens with that one as well.

I'll click Enable, but the prompt appears every time I restart Firefox.

What I've tried (with a restart after each attempt):

  • Clear the startup cache
  • Delete extensions.json
  • Delete compatibility.ini
  • Via about:config deleted extensions.databaseSchema and extensions.getAddons.databaseSchema
  • Excluded Add-ons from syncing

I've noticed the following in extensions.json for each of the recent add-ons after restart:

  • syncGUID changes to presumably random new value
  • active changes from true to false
  • userDisabled changes from false to true
  • seen changes from true to false

I installed one of the ad blockers, I can't remember which one. It's given me so much trouble that I thought to disable or delete it. I deleted the little icon ( a stop sign) that shows up on the far right of one of the menu bars (don't know the name of that bar but here it's the second one down). But websites still complain that I have an ad blocker. I've gone to 'add-ons and themes' but I can't find it. BTW, what's the difference between an add-on, a plug-in and an extension? Which one of those are ad blockers? How can I see and then delete whichever blocker I still have? Without the icon I can't even disable it for individual sites.

Firefuxxed was refusing to open new tabs so I shut it down and restarted it (always fixes it) and all my pinned and open tabs were gone with no way to recover them, it took me half an hour to manually restore the pinned ones one by one but not all of them as I cannot remember all of them let alone all the open tabs I had (hours of research gone down the toilet).

There should be a way to backup and restore pinned and open tabs so this doesn't happen, the history option does nothing.

OS: Linux Mint 22 fresh install from a week ago Previous version of Firefuxxed updated after this shamossel.

The video from most websites plays out of sequence. It appears that approximately every one second plays its frames in reverse order. This occurs with most video streaming services and major sites. For example, all Amazon, Sam's Club, Walmart and other website product videos. Occasionally, Amazon product videos just say not compatible. However, YouTube videos with very rare excepts play fine in Firefox. Those problem sites play the videos fine under Edge for Linux. But, I would much rather use Firefox. I'm sure this a codec related issue. Possibly related to the NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 video card in this computer running openSUSE 15.5. But after much searching, I'm at a loss on how to resolve the problem.

Out of nowhere a couple days ago Firefox started loading local html files extremely slowly. I was using Live Server to render the pages, so I turned that on and off, uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. I tried dragging files in from the original folder on my computer, but even that doesn't work. I tried updating firefox, and then my computer (which is running Fedora Linux 40), but still nothing.

When I try hitting inspect on the page, it only loads the HTML but doesn't let me inspect the JS as it wont load, and it's saying I have a ton of errors too. I can't look at the errors because they wont load, but I know it doesn't have to do with the original file as there was only one error which the page was working fine with before and each time I try opening the file it gives me a different amount of errors.

I tried clearing my cache and cookies, which didn't work either.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm having no other errors on other pages.

The app sizes two adjacent images to the same height. Maybe there's a better approach?

This works, in that I see the original image displayed at the wrong size:

   //img.src = imgsrc.src;

This sizes the image but without the data (black square for toDataURL w/ image/jpeg) in FF, but not Chrome and Safari:

   var canvas = document.createElement( 'canvas' );
   canvas.width = width;
   canvas.height = avail_height;
   var context = canvas.getContext( '2d' );
   // Tried/failed: Fill white background for JPEG export
   //context.fillStyle = '#fff';
   //context.fillRect(0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height);
   context.drawImage( imgsrc, 0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height);
   context.lineWidth = 150; // ??
   img.src = canvas.toDataURL('image/jpeg', 0.92);
   img.onmousedown = disableDragging; // for FF
   img.style.opacity = "1.0"

The page is the view.html one gets to via Enter on phobrain.com.

After updating my openSUSE Firefox package from version 122 to 123 every frame inside each window started to have weird grey overlay of scrollable area. I failed to find any description of such a thing happening, let alone how to get rid of it. I tried removing build-in distro-default preferences and had complete audit of all my custom preferences in about:config but none changed that behavior. I even updated to 124b4 but this also haven't changed anything. Naturally, nuking entire profile is not an option, I might as well replace the whole browser. So, how do I get rid of this thing?
