Hi, I've been struggling with this for months and can't find an easy solution or a good explanation. I'm running Ubuntu 22.04 pretty basic, I don't have many custom repositories enabled or anything, just a few additional packages like slack, Teams or Chrome. Ubuntu switched Firefox to snaps as well, and I can't get internet access with it. The error message is:

--- May 12 12:16:20 nuc kernel: [12948.381392] audit: type=1400 audit(1683886580.562:131): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" profile="snap.firefox.firefox" name="/etc/fstab" pid=7731 comm="firefox" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=0 May 12 12:15:43 nuc rtkit-daemon[1030]: message repeated 3 times: [ Supervising 10 threads of 4 processes of 1 users.] May 12 12:16:20 nuc dbus-daemon[790]: [system] Activating via systemd: service name='org.freedesktop.hostname1' unit='dbus-org.freedesktop.hostname1.service' requested by ':1.175' (uid=1000 pid=7731 comm="/snap/firefox/2645/usr/lib/firefox/firefox " label="snap.firefox.firefox (enforce)") ---

Simply stopping (and aa-teardown) doesn't work at all, Firefox doesn't even start without apparmor running. I'm not an expert with apparmor, but I wanted to set in complain mode instead enforce, but I'm struggling with that, too. I didn't touch the /etc/hosts file, the error message is a little different on another Ubuntu 22.04 computer I use, there it complains about permission denied for the resolve.conf. So I'm asking the community, how do you deal with this? Searching the web gives me all kinds of ideas, but none of them work. Could anyone help me out here?

Thanks!

Hello, I would like to report an issue with Firefox 113.0 cannonical-002 1.0 on Ubuntu 22.04 lts. When opening 5-8 tabs, the browser consumes a lot of memory. When the system's RAM usage, along with the browser, reaches 80% of the computer's memory capacity (12Gb is the full size of the machine RAM), the browser crashes without generating any crash reports and does not restart itself. Interestingly, using the same browser on the same hardware, but on another OS, Windows 10 with the latest stable version of the browser, with the same themes and add-ons, the issue is not observed, and memory usage is much lower.

Could you please suggest a solution to this issue and help prevent these crashes from happening?

Thank you for your time and assistance.

When Firefox is running and I lock the screen and unlock it again, the gui seems to be somehow broken. On the picture attached one can see a graphical issue (black frame) on the right side of the browser when resizing the window. When I try to make it smaller starting from the left, the window disappears inside the black frame on the right side. There are also issues regarding the mouse. It is not possible to see which part of the text is already selected when pressing and holding the left mouse button during text selection (no orange highlighting of the text). When I release the left button the text is selected.

This is the second PC with Ubuntu 22.04 where this happens. Both PCs were upgraded from Ubuntu 20.04, so maybe it has to do something with that.

My FF updated to 110.0.1 (64-bit) on Ubuntu and several things which use to work really well are now broken.

For example, when making a new account, the password manager pops up asking if you want to save the username/password, but if you mouse over to that popup then as soon as you enter it it just disappears. When logging in somewhere, if there are multiple choices for userid (say with different dates) none can be chosen. You mouse down to the popup with the choices and there's a weird stroboscopic action where the popup disappears and is recreated as fast as it can, over and over, and nothing can actually be clicked on. If you type in the userid then try to enter the password the same thing happens. It's not possible to use the password manager anymore, both fields need to be typed in manually.

Another example is the search field. If you type something and there are several options from previous searches, and you try to mouse down to pick one, the popup disappears. If you click the search keyword again it highlights as for replacement, then you have to click it again (removing highlight) and only then can you mouse down and choose a search engine.

etc etc etc! All this stuff worked great until the upgrade happened (in the background) and now many things are a huge pain in the ass. Arrgh!

% uname -a Linux spunky 5.4.0-144-generic #161~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Feb 10 15:55:22 UTC 2023 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I tried disabling all add-ons then restarted but made no difference. Password manager is unusable.

I am on Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS and really dislike when Firefox updates and I am in the middle of some work and I get this "Firefox has upgraded in the background and needs to restart".

I enjoy my privacy, so I start my browser with the "Delete cookies and site data when firefox closes" and "Always use private mode" set. This means when the browser restarts, everything is gone.

Why can't this be disabled? My laptop checks updates every day and I install them. Why can't I get a notification that an update is available so I can download and install at my choosing?

I'm not sure if this is a Firefox issue or not, but I use Firefox because (1) it is the default browser within Linux Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, and (2) I prefer it over the more widely used Google Chrome or Chromium.

Let me first tell you that I run an AMD 5950X CPU with an EVGA RTX 3080-Ti GPU and have Xfinity Cable. I am also running a behind the scenes program called BOINC using 30 of my 32 "threads" available.

When I open Firefox and do my browsing, I usually only open no more than 4 or 5 browser tabs at once because of my CPU cores/threads limitations. But with this latest episode of updated Firefox it now has a tendency more often than not to 'hang' and stall. I need to click my mouse outside of the Firefox window to get one of the windows to respond. Also, if I try to exit Firefox it also hangs and when I go outside the Firefox window it will then ask if I want all windows closed - which I say yes to. Then I wait a few seconds and open Firefox and it opens all the same windows I had before.

I hope I'm stating this correctly, but regardless, the previous versions did not do this.

I may just have to switch and use Chromium if this continues.

Hi,

So, it looks like snapd went ahead and updated my Firefox.... Grrrrr

Now I'm unable to access my profile information. (passwords, tabs, extensions, history, etc)

When I try, I get a pop-up telling me that using an older version if Firefox can lead to profile data corruption. However, I'm trying to use FF version 109.0.1 (64-bit), which should be very new.

How can I get my profile data back?

Thanks in advance,

Mike Diehl.

I am using Ubuntu Firefox 110.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 22.04 x86_64. I am unable to play contents on Disney+, Amazon Prime Video Netflix and such. I was streaming fine until a few months ago. I have checked my settings and they are all properly set. At the time I am writing this report, the Widevine Content Decryption Module is at Version 4.10.2557.0, updated to its latest release. Obviously DRM content is enabled in settings. Changing the useragent did not solve the problem. I have seen this problem reported before for MacOs users but I could not find anything for linux users. Am I the only one having this problem? I hope someone can help. Thanks

From some point on, my Firefox started behaving strangely. When I start up the browser, it opens new window under other opened windows instead of does it above ones. When I try to open new window in an already running browser, it does it properly. In my mind, it's really uncomfortable and unintuitive behavior so it will be good if I can fix this issue and make Firefox starts up normally (on top of other windows) like all other applications in my system. I'm currently running on 64-bit Ubuntu 22.04. Firefox (snap) version 109.0.1.

Thank in advance for any help or advice regarding my problem.

The Subject says it. I have this line "Your browser is being managed by your organization." in Config under Sync. I am a private user so there is no organization. I want to get rid of this.

I'm trying to troubleshoot why Google Chat will not sound an audible alert while Google Mail does. I can't find any settings that would affect this so naturally I suspect this organization line.

I'm using the Mozilla .deb and not the Ubuntu snap.

I'm in Ubuntu 22.04, logged in as user-me. I would like to open /home/user-other/path/to/index.html with firefox.

user-me is in the group user-other, and everything under /home/user-other has permission 755. I can open /home/user-other/path/to/index.html in the terminal without problem.

If I simply type /home/user-other/path/to/index.html in the address bar of firefox, it gives "Access to the file was denied". If I open the file with the file picker, the page is loaded, but as "file:///run/user/1000/doc/some-hax-number/index.html", and the resources in the page are not properly loaded.

How can I properly open /home/user-other/path/to/index.html?

I use Firefox sync between multiple devices, including a desktop and a laptop on Ubuntu Linux. This is done through a Firefox account. Both Ubuntu devices mentioned run Firefox 108.0 for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

I'm signed in on this Firefox account on my laptop (from which I'm writing this message). I recently (some months ago) changed my primary e-mail, since I may lose access to the older e-mail account soon. Now, suddenly, on my Ubuntu Desktop I received a message that I need to sign in to sync. When I click on "sign in", it takes me to tab that lists my primary e-mail address and asks for my password. I enter the password that I know is correct (it is listed under my saved logins on this Ubuntu laptop and the e-mail listed is the primary e-mail address with which I am signed in on my laptop, writing this message; it is also listed on my Firefox account details as my primary e-mail address). I then get a red message on tab stating "Primary account e-mail required for sign in", despite the fact that it is with my primary e-mail that I am attempting to sign in! I've tried it multiple times, to no avail.

At least two other users have posted about related concerns this year: (see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1368875 and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1395902). However, nothing has been done to resolve this issue. I have followed all instructions provided for changing my primary e-mail address. This is definitely a fault on Mozilla's side and not mine. Please resolve this urgently, users risk losing vast amounts of data, through no fault of their own, if you fail to do so.

The text for certain parts of the calendar screen are jumbled and impossible to read. I don't have this problem when I open the calendar app using Chrome or Chromium, or in Firefox on my Macbook. It seems to be unique to my Firefox browser on my Ubuntu machine. I am attaching a screen shot that indicates the jumbles I see. The most prominent ones appear on the top line where one can change the week and day one is viewing. There are other places as well which are easily seen on the screen shot, especially when it is "blown up". I don't know how to fix this.

In any case, thanks in advance for your help and consideration. Best wishes, Paul Muhly

I have recently lost trust in Windows and went back to Ubuntu. Work computer can probably boot back into Win11 if I try and it's on 22.04LTS. Home laptop was Win 10 but I'm not sure it is able to boot to that. Anyhow:

I had a great workflow with containers and handling a few different accounts and there are probably 100+ unique strong passwords saved in my firefox sync. Now I get to linux, get things set up ... and now I have to start over with everything. Most accounts, I'm totally OK to just "Forgot Password" because then it's a great chance to get a newer, longer, meaner passwd and review if I can turn on 2FA, etc. But there are sites that are slipping through the cracks; sites that are a little broken about recovery.

On an aside, I do have the windows filesystem and poked around Users/me/AppData/Roaming/blahblah/profile/files. There are json files with encrypted usernames and some sqlite DBs. Is there a mechanism for merging the "old" AppData into ubuntu's ~/snap/firefox/profile ?

Or is there a means to get user/pass out of those files? I'll see if I can get logged into the work computer tomorrow since I see there's an export option, which is a good backup plan if there isn't a way to import.

Thanks! Krista
