Every time I look at Options, my setting always reverts to TELL Sites that I do not want to be tracked. Other people told me not to check anything, so it's a little annoying that it is always checked.
I opened troubleshooting, opened my folders, and discovered that I don't have a User.JS file, so the instructions to fix that preference ended without a solution. The next step to check Pref.JS. Here, I got an error: prefs.js line 1 char 1 invalid character code 800a03f6 Microsoft jscript compilation error.
I have no idea what to do next. Thank you.

A bookmark was clearly corrupt and created hundreds of copies of itself. All have the exact same time stamp. If I so much as touch the affected bookmark folder, Firefox becomes 'unresponsive' and never recovers. I have to close it. I have successfully moved all good bookmarks in that folder to a new folder, leaving the bad bookmarks behind. I can not delete the folder they are in and can not delete them individually as clicking on one of them causes the 'unresponsive' problem. Can't find bookmark files on my hard-drive other than backups that I can't open.
So. How do I get rid of this buggy bunch of stuff? I'm using windows 8.1.

Additionally, Firefox offers no other solution to this problem.
This is a new HP laptop with Windows 8.1. My previous laptop had Windows 7 and before that all of the other Windows versions and I've never had a problem accessing Gmail before using Firefox.

I uninstalled & reinstalled flash & java. The crashes seem to happen mostly when a page is loaded that has a lot of content displayed all at once (photos, embedded videos, etc.).
Firefox had been running flawlessly on my PC for years...not sure if the recent crashing is due to a recent update or what but i've been getting plugincontainer.exe errors a lot.
Below is the crash report...if someone can decipher it and tell me what exactly is causing it, it would be greatly appreciated.

This is particularly concerning, as THIS very support site (support.mozilla.org) has "please try disabling OMTC" as a common suggestion for a number of screen rendering issues. I think that going forward, asking people to "try disabling OMTC" will only WORSEN the issue, as a catastrophic Firefox crash which could cause loss of data is much worse than a screen rendering glitch.
