Why does the new Firefox return an unreliable source error even for mozilla.com on this WIN8.1 computer?

I updated to the new Firefox. When I try to load a page, I get an "untrusted" source error, even for sites such as support.mozilla.com (any mozilla.com site I have tried) and other sites that I have previously used regularly. The message actually says, "This connection is untrusted." Right now, even google search is untrusted. I can click "I understand the risks" and get an ominous warning. I can also get the "Uh-oh, something went wrong! Error Code 404" when I try one of my standard web sites, including my normal home page. Interestingly, the bottom of the screen informs me that Firefox is automatically sending data to improve my experience.

When I tried to download the new Firefox again, It went to all but the last .1 (3 seconds remaining) and stalled several times.

I have Windows 8.1 and am posting this on a different browser.

When I do a Google search for a product or person on the right side of the page is a little bit of specific information and if available a a little square with a prompt for more images. Clicking on that prompt brings you to a full page of related pictures. On all my computers when you click on a specific picture tile it becomes large then you can close the picture and go back to the tile page. On the computer I'm having trouble with when I click on a specific tile on the tile page nothing happens, the screen stays on the tile page. This is not a computer problem because when I follow the same procedure in Safari everything works just like it is supposed to, so this has to be a problem with the Firefox setting on this particular computer. This is a fairly new issue, with in the last few months.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I installed Optimizer Pro (a free registry cleaner). Unfortunately, in the process, it also installed "websearchy.com" a browser high-jacker that defaults my search engine and home page to their site. I was told by my internet provider that if I removed Firefox and reinstalled it, it would take care of the issue. Is this the best approach? If not, what is? I removed Optimizer Pro but websearchy.com did not remove.

I have spend innumerable hours downloading new versions of Firefox. They never apply/appear in my system. It was suggested that I completely uninstall the current v. 3.6.2 from my system, and then install the latest FF as if I'd never had it. Is this possible? What might I lose as a result?

I got a warning message that my previous access to my Gmail account was not secure. I have been using the google browser. I downloaded your browser as that is the one that i use on my tablet and home desktop. When I tried to sign onto my gmail account, it told me to go to the icon and click on it. I did so but no place came up that had the word "settings" I have been trying to resolve this issue for over an hour. I am unable to register with Firefox. When I tried to either enable or disable cookies, I did not get a means by which to do either of those choices.

I'm getting a new (Windows 8.1) computer. I want to be able to use Firefox and Thunderbird just as I left them on the old (Windows 7) computer. Is this the right way to do it:

1. Backup both (to a removable disk) on the old computer with Mozbackup. 2. Download and install both on the new computer. Download and install Mozbackup of the new computer. 3. Restore from the removable disk using Mozbackup on the new computer.

Is this the right idea?

I am running Windows 8.1, and have FireFox v31.0. Every time I install an update of Firefox I find adware/malware has piggybacked and installed in my computer. The symptoms are popup ads on my desktop and in any browser (not just Firefox).

I always use the update link in the Help menu on the browser, and never click on reminders. I always decline if it asked to install a third party menu bar, and I have none of those installed. I have only 7 add-ons, all are legitimate components, and all are set to "ask to activate."

I am able to remove the adware/malware by finding in the control panel and uninstalling the programs, but this problem is so frustrating that I am ready to find a different browser.

How can I keep this from happening again and again?
