I have a clean basic install of Windows 7 64 bit Pro. It is completely up to date. New install of Firefox 49.
When going to Netflix I get the message
"Firefox is installing components needed to play audio or video..."
but never completes. If I try to run a netflix video my pc crashes, won't reboot until I do a power off.
The desired videos play on Netflix in IE fine.
I have NO antivirus running, FF is set to auto update.
Any ideas ?

I was forced to stop updating Firefox at version 46 because my processor and RAM couldn't handle the extra load. It just kept crashing. I rarely used Firefox, preferring something much smaller and faster -- K-Meleon.
Now I've acquired a newer machine running Windows 7 Pro. I thought I could install vs. 46 onto it, copy the "dbsjc2i1.default" file into the profile folder and get all my bookmarks and customizations back. After that I would tackle the business of upgrading to a newer version (although I don't plan on updating to Quantum (vs. 59) until the add-on authors have had a chance to rewrite their add-ons).
Only problem is, the name of the file in the Firefox profile folder has changed to something completely different. So how can I migrate my vs. 46 profile to vs. 56 on a Windows 7 machine??

I am regularly using public access computers at libraries and similar places. Firefox is seriously Conspicuous by Absence on these machines. I would therefore like to download a fully functional Firefox browser to my memory stick, NOT the public computer hard drive. I will then be able to plug in my memory stick and RUN Firefox from the memory stick on any public access computer which DOES NOT already have Firefox installed.
I have at present got a Firefox Setup Stub 52.0 on my memory stick, but this is now probably out of date and it is for downloading Firefox, not Running Firefox.
Thank you

I was playing a game, and had to shut down Firefox to prevent slowdown- I have an older laptop, sue me. when I started firefox back up it installed an update- no problem.
but when it finished installing, it wasn't firefox, but firefox quantum, a different program entirely that deleted all my display preferences! the tabs are in the wrong spot, the search engines are a grid of icons instead of a list of names like they're SUPPOSED TO BE, it's only showing miniatureized icons instead of icons and text, there's no status bar at the bottom, it DELETED THE TABS FROM MY PREVIOUS SESSION and several of my addons (including the Classic Themes Restorer that fixes the severe UGLINESS of every new version,) is no longer compatible!
how do I correct this mistake by going back to the old version and protecting my laptop from this horrid quantum garbage?

For a long time I have been using FF ESR in order to be able to use crucial add-ons like Tab Groups and Session Manager. But now suddenly FF ESR updated itself automatically to v.60.2.1esr (64-bit) without giving me any warning or choices and thus destroying all my many Tab Groups! I have heard that the add-on Simple Tab Groups can read the data format used by Tab Groups, but when I try to install it, I discover that it needs at least version v.62.0. What do I do now, to get all my tab groups back? This is getting quite overwhelming!
I feel as if Mozilla is trying to destroy my life! If I had known what I know now, then I would very seriously have tried to find an alternative to Firefox!
Addition!: I also have an instance of FF v.62.0 (64-bit) installed... where I use the add-on Panorama View (similar to Tab Groups)!

For a really long time I've been using an older version of Firefox (47.0b9, to be precise) because I didn't like the following updates. A week ago I noticed some problems with one website I was using and so thought that maybe it's because I was using outdated browser or something like that. To check this out I updated Firefox to newest (in that moment) version of it, but it wasn't the case, and because I didn't like the changes made to interface and other things I immediately downgraded it back to the version I was using earlier. But then I realized that all my browser history was gone.
I spent last week trying to undo or repair it, and so I found out that my browser history was still there, untouched, but for some reason older Firefox could not "see" it. After updating again to the newest version browser history was back and it showed again.
I tried many things, like System Restore or Firefox Sync, to somehow get the history back in the older version, but it just didn't work.
The thing is, while the history doesn't appear in version 47.0b9, the last session - tabs that I had opened - still showed, and when clicking on "History" button, before going into History window, there was a list of recently visited websites, and the last sites I visited before that whole situation were truly there, so I presume it has to have access to files that contain my browser history.
I am aware that there are supposedly some safety risks that come with using older version of Firefox, but I didn't experience any problems during my long usage of it so I don't see an issue.
I really need my browser history to work again in older version of Firefox, and not only because I don't like how newest version looks, but because of how search bar was changed (that is most crucial to me when it comes to this topic) and the fact that after upgrading the browser it started to work slower than before for some reason, which is quite jarring. Some other applications also started working slower, but it isn't as important as the browser.
I also tried slightly newer version of Firefox, but it seems that anything below 55 doesn't work. I think I've read somewhere that in version 55 any downgrade below started to not be supported anymore.
I'm sure there were some changes made to files that contain browser history and things related to it over the course of time. I think that "places.sqlite" file was actually five times bigger after updating to newest version, but I don't know why is that, I'm not really knowledgeable in that field.
But I wonder if there is anything I can do to make it work again in older version, specifically 47.0b9.
Thank you in advance for any help.

I am using Firefox as portable app, with --no-remote --profile "%profile_path%". I update it regularly, it's convenient for me to see notifications of new updates and install them whenever I see fit. I recently noticed that Firefox creates a folder on every computer C:\ProgramData\Mozilla\updates, which is not good for the portable version, really. The only way to stop this I found was to completely disable updates via distribution\policies. I don't want to. How do I get firefox to notify me of updates and download them to a USB flash drive (it will be perfect if i could specify folder for this purpose) instead of leaving files on other people's computers?

Trying to sync FF to new computer (from Windows 7 to 8.1). I get the 12 dig code from the new computer and enter it on the old one. Nothing happens. Step 5 in the Sync instructions ("When the code is accepted you will see a Device Connected message and your device will immediately begin syncing. Click Finish to close the setup window. ") doesn't happen. I do not see "Device connected". All that happens is that the box returns to the Welcome! text and asks if I want to set up an account or if I have one already.
On the new computer, nothing changes. The "Next" button under the generated code does not light up.

Can I copy a download of the browser to a thumb drive to install on my laptop? I have deleted both the IE that was preloaded, and my copy of Firefox due to a large black box that was appearing on launching the browser and that i couldn't click away. I had clicked a box asking my permission to support the dictionary. Maybe that caused the problem. I just want my FF back. Thanks

Running Win7 64 bit on i5 processor. I keep getting the Old Version message, sometimes get "FF can't tell what version you are using" & also getting the "This Version No Longer Supported" banner across the top. Updated to 51.0.1 4 times now but no change. WHY? The FF upgrade has decided that the 32 bit version is best for my computer. See screenshots for details. The "SHARE DATA" section at the bottom of this page has completely wrong info - could this be part of the problem? What is "NPWLPG"? No MIME support either.

When you look at the KEY (all caps) like https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.5.3esr/ Other than showing you a signing key ID(s) & an email addy to search for public keys, what is the purpose of the KEY on the download pages?
Entering: $ gpg KEY, where the KEY file is in the current location shown in the terminal, gives info like:
D98F0353 2015-07-17 Mozilla Software Releases <release@mozilla.com> sub 4096R/5E9905DB 2015-07-17 [expires: 2017-07-16]
Only thing I can figure is the "KEY" file is to tell users which public key ID or email addy to search for, if you don't already have the devs' correct public signing key stored on your keyring?
That still doesn't help to verify the authenticity of any downloads, unless there are *.asc signature files for each specific file. Like here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.5.3esr/update/linux-x86_64/en-US/
There's a firefox update file that was signed by the devs, using one or more of their PGP signature keys. And a 2nd "signature file" - with .asc extension, that's used with GPG to verify the downloaded file's **authenticity.** NOTE: This has NOTHING to do with checksums!
Checksums don't verify that the file you're downloading wasn't tampered with after it was loaded on the server. Only that there were no read / write errors during download process.
The two files below were together. You need both to verify authenticity using gpg. firefox-52.5.2esr-52.5.3esr.partial.mar firefox-52.5.2esr-52.5.3esr.partial.mar.asc
If I've already downloaded the mozilla devs' public keys & stored them on a keyring app, then I can verify the downloaded file. If you change dir to where the update file & the signature file (.asc) are stored, then you enter:
$ gpg --verify firefox-52.5.2esr-52.5.3esr.partial.mar.asc firefox-52.5.2esr-52.5.3esr.partial.mar
If the signed downloaded file's signature matches the .asc file & also the correct, stored public key for the authors, it will say:
gpg: Signature made Tue 03 Oct 2017 05:22:45 PM CDT using RSA key ID 24C6F355 gpg: Good signature from "Mozilla Software Releases <release@mozilla.com>"
The FULL installer packages like firefox-52.5.3esr.linux-x86_64.sdk.tar.bz2 don't seem to have signature files available (with .asc). There's no way for users to manually verify full installer packages. Maybe they somehow do "self verification." It seems like firefox would have to contact a server - at some point to compare signature of the package being installed against a known good signature key.

I get a message everytime I access the internet saying that Mozilla would like to make changes to my computer. I did it one time and downloaded all kinds of crap. I was getting pop ups and it slowed everything down. I deleted the stuff I didnt recognize. I finally needed to call Toshiba support to remotely access my laptop and get rid of everything but the message still appears everytime I access the internet. Is this legitimate? I see you automatically update so this is my concern. If it is not legitimate how do I know what to delete off my programs? This is what I have in my programs: Mozilla Maintenance Service and Mozilla 21.0 (x86-en US). Thank you, this is very annoying.
