I began on the Web with the NCSA Mosaic browser. I then progressed through Netscape Navigator and into Mozilla ("Mosaic killa") and the original Firefox betas. O, how I wax nostalgic for the "good old days" back before Satan discovered the Internet and decided to condemn us all to eternal damnation via the advent of tabbed browsing.

I gave tabs a chance. They only caused clutter, confusion and consumption of screen real estate. Anything that could be done in a new tab could be done much better in a new window. I've been biding my time, waiting for the majority of Web users to realize that tabs were useless and foolish, but alas, the majority of Web users are apparently... useless and foolish.

The next great crime to be committed was for the first Firefox option to change from New Window to New Tab. It took me nearly a year to overcome my habitual clicking on the first option, unintentionally opening a new tab, then having to waste time closing it and going back to carefully scroll down to the next option of New Window.

We were given SOME reprieve with the options to uncheck "Always show the tab bar" and "Open new windows in a new tab instead," but what we really needed was an option to "Open new TABS in a new WINDOW instead." Better yet, one that would say, "Completely disable tabbed browsing and remove all 'tab' options from menus and hotkeys."

Now the Apocalypse is upon us, and with Firefox 23, we are forced to have a stupid TAB at the top of our browser window. We should NOT need to use an add-on or manual code to make it go away. I have trodden the path of righteousness for as long as I could muster, but yea, I grow weary, and the Dark Side is calling me to finally click that box that says "Install Google Chrome."

As for my question.... If I were to join a dating site, should I be upfront and admit my shameful browser choice to prospective partners in my profile, or wait until we know each other better so they are more willing to accept such a flaw in my moral character?

Redo because not only does my thread seem to have disappeared, but also I wanted to start afresh.

First off, are my threads even showing up anymore? Usually I get fairly prompt replies, but my last couple of threads have gotten nothing. While I am sorry if I come off as rude or demanding, and understand that there are other people needing help and you all are busy, it is rather frustrating to not get a single reply on a thread, even if that reply is "We don't know" or "we are working on this problem". It might not seem like an important problem to you, but for me it is a problem and lessens my enjoyment of the Firefox product. Plus, having questions answered grants me more knowledge of the product, and thus grants me more ability to fix problems on my own.

Anyways, on to the issue:

Hello, Ever since I downloaded Firefox 25, I have had an issue with scrolling. If there was some way to record this, I would, but at this time I cannot, so a description will have to do. If someone knows a way to record what is happening, I will gladly do it to make what I am saying easier to visualize.

On some sites I visit, scrolling will be what can only be described as "choppy"- I will attempt to scroll down, but there will be a small delay before the page responds and scrolls down. Thus, the scrolling does not go smoothly. This mostly happens on sites (tumblr pages especially) with non-scrolling backgrounds (ie backgrounds that do not scroll with the page) on them.

First off, I do not think this is a problem with any extensions, my computer, or the sites themselves. When I open the same pages in Chrome, the issue does not occur and the issue does not occur in all pages.

I have tried clearing the cookies and cache, resetting my browser, disabling hardware acceleration, checking the plugins (problem still happened even when all plugins were disabled), updating my graphics card, and disabling website colors. The first few produced no lasting result/fix, and while disabling website colors did fix the issue, it made the rest of the site/other sites (ones that were working fine) difficult/impossible to use.

One interesting fact of note is this: If I downgrade to Firefox 24, the issue not only disappears, but stays away, and does not occur.

Another fact of note: I have written a previous thread on this issue, but ended up not getting an answer to a second question I had. In the first thread, I was given this possible solution, referring to a bookmarklet I could use/try: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/976244#answer-496960

So my questions here are these: 1) What is going on in Firefox 25 that makes scrolling choppy in that version, but not in version 24 or any other browser except version 25? 2) How exactly do I use that bookmarklet I linked to? Where do I need to place it? How do I get to where I need to place it? How would it work? Is there a way to/Can someone make it into a Greasemonkey (I have Greasemonkey) userscript, if it does work?

Also, is there a way to "bump" my thread without actually commenting on it?

I came across this and thought to pass it on; Java vulnerability: What you need to know Norton has been monitoring a vulnerability in Java that allows cybercriminals to lure Internet users to virus-infected websites. This vulnerability puts users at risk for malware attacks. Here’s what you need to know:

   All versions of Java SE 7 Update 17 and earlier are affected.
   Norton recommends all Java users download and install the software update released by Oracle as soon as possible.
   Users may want to disable Java if it is not required.

Im trying to sync my desktop with a new laptop. Have followed instructions and entered 12 digits where requested having signed up for an account in advance.

After adding the 12 digits neither of them shows any sign of syncing. the next page asks for account details plus a Recovery Key. I've not found a Recovery Key and have spent some time looking at Support pages. The Sync tab on both shows pairing and syncing click-ons only - no manage account etc as indicated in support info.

be very grateful for somebody to talk me through this in a simple way. Many thanks in advance

I have plenty of tags on bookmarks. If I can't remember my tag's name, but remember that it's about "cooking" how do I search for tag names with that word?

The search bar on the upper right of bookmarks gives all urls with the word. I want to search my list of tags itself.

Also I'd like to do the same with keywords.

When searching history, I'd like a more sophisticated search that lets me pick the time range, and tags.

Also when viewing site history, I can see them by last date viewed. I'd like to view by date first viewed. (Last modifed isn't it)

Thanks!

I've tried repeatedly going to the forums at texags.com as I have in the past but keep getting the following message-

Server Error in '/' Application. Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Other people on the forum use firefox without problems and I have done so in the past. I'm trying to switch back from Chrome but this is a huge block for me. I have checked for updates and cleared the history and cache as suggested in the FAQs. ANy advice?

I had my tabs bar just above the page before I updated it and now can't figure out how to put them there again.

My bookmarks bar has migrated to the very top of the browser - not where I had (or want) that either!

I've a BIG space (on the browser edge) between the top of the active page and the URL

In short this is a mess - why could it not keep my settings as they where in the previous version?

I've already wasted over an hour trying to sort this - an hour I could have been doing more productive things - so yeah thanks for stealing my time as well!

As you might have guessed I'm a bit annoyed & angry at this.

If something isn't broken then DON'T fix it - it's an old adage but it holds true!

I followed the instructions in the solution and changed to appropriate plug in to true in the add ons menu. It did not repair the issue. The 'solution' also referenced manually moving the files to Firefox 21 but did not specify what folder to place them. Internet Explorer lets me play Crescendo. I hate IE. There is a plug in folder in IE that apparently has the appropriate one to enable play. Should the contents of the IE folder be copied and placed in the Mozilla folder somewhere???? Would love to have an answer. I can play all the other games on King but that one was a favorite. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

I have lost everything as the ultimate result of all this (and a really stupid local tech that wiped most of my computer.) All I want to know is how do you contact SOMEONE at Mozilla that could help me.

If there is no way to communicate with some ultimately responsibility entity then anyone who has an issue is really just hanging in the wind with NO RECOURSE!!!!! AT THE MINIMUM all users should have a way to identify LEGITIMATE techs -something I haven't found. It is also a bummer that many questions here go unanswered. I am turning completely against the idea of "user developed" applications due to this.

If that is not possible then I will have no choice but to start a VERY LARGE campaign to WARN everyone to STAY COMPLETELY AWAY from ANY and ALL software that doesn't some ultimate corporate responsibility. I don't care HOW HIGHLY Firefox is rated now

Who oversees your Product Development? Daffy Duck? Porky Pig? Mickey Mouse? or a Class of 4th Graders?

This is "HAND'S DOWN" the most "EPIC FAIL" since Microsoft "BOB" and "New Coke". I am Truly STUNNED!!! It's obviously irritating- because I'm FURIOUS- it's baffling (how can anyone be THIS blind) and an unfathomable thing to miss (The Problem is OLDER than...!! Pop-ups have been an annoyance since the 1990's!!! Is ANYONE there THINKING? or am i simply missing where it's buried. (I pray to God I am)!

I dare someone to tell me HOW THE "answer/solution" below IS in ANY WAY an "EASY FIX". A Bungle THIS BIG is gonna get your "Browser" FIRED from my PCs!! I switched FROM IE (and I'm and Microsoft Alumni AND -by "average Standards" a SIGNIFICANT MS Share Holder) because Firefox seemed to handle FaceBook Games better. But, if you all could miss something THIS SIMPLE, what else have you MISSED.

Please- PRETTY PLEASE- make "a fool" of me and force me to apologize. Cause I WILL if I missed the obvious. I have NOT wanted to be WRONG more than I am now in all MY LIFE!!!

there are two simple ways for me to block specific websites. first, editing the host file

   Open my computer, and browse the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc In the etc folder
   look for the file HOSTS.
   Open this file hosts with notepad.
   Go to the bottom of the file and create. You can block websites by following the format:
  127.0.0.1www.sitesyouwanttoblock.com
   Save the file and then the websites you added are blocked now.

It’s easy to block certain websites by using editing hosts file way. If you want to block many websites even keywords, professional porn filter is recommended.

second, use a website blocker

   Download a professional Aobo website Filter.
   Install the software to the computer.
   Setting up the blacklist and a “white” list provided by Aobo porn filter. Besides the nasty,
  porn-related words prefilled in the blacklist, you can also customize it to include anything
  that you want to block. The “white” list is reserved for safe words and Web sites.
   Save the settings and run the software.

The software works in stealth mode that your kids will have no idea that they’re being blocked".

WTH!!!
