Yahoo Mail is asking me to add an application (a Yahoo Mail app) for "mailto" links. I don't want it. Closing the notification works for as long a refresh, which means I'd be forever closing the notification, thus I want to disable the notification in about:config but what exactly do I need to disable?

Update. Here is someone with a similar problem: http://superuser.com/questions/363827/how-can-i-disable-add-application-for-mailto-links-bar-in-firefox

Update: is this relevant? https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/navigator.registerProtocolHandler

Update: thanks to Gingerbread_man for the chosen solution: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/994658#answer-556629

Cor-el also gave some helpful info: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/994658#answer-556727

Thank you all, guys. Cheers!

The google search bar on top of my firefox browser is not working.

Everytime I try to search something using that google bar, it just keeps on telling me with "connecting". And nothing happens.

But when I try with a different search engine like Yahoo!, it works fine.

The new version of Adobe Flash 11 is atrocious... I want to use version 10.3, but when it's installed it always asks me if I want to activate this plugin on every video... That's really annoying. :( I've tried to set the plugin to 'Always Activate', but the option is unavailable in the addon options. Is there another way to fix this so it's always active, or do I need to find another browser in the meantime until Firefox gets their stuffs together?

I'm running XP on a lap-top that originally had Vista that didn't work as well and Firefox 26.0, up-to date. I have "Add-Ons" of; Adblock Plus 2.4.1, Advanced System Care 1.0 and NoScript 2.6.8.12

Ever since updating to 26.0 that damnable "plug-in container.exe" has been slowing down my web surfing and I'm constantly ending the process in task Manager. I want to disable or remove it completely with easy-to-read instructions - Not some of the 5-page "mumbo-jumbo" I've been reading for other "solutions". It has slowed me down and irritated me to the point of considering returning to I-E.

It has to go or I'm going.

Comment,
See also similar question with some answers

you cannot right click save as on an image, after the image has been dl already to save it FF re-downloads the image again. Noone can produce a config setting that corrects that. so if your paying for data FF is causing you to pay double.

while something is DL most of the time the dl stalls. You now cannot pause and resume a dl to get it going again, the old Dl dialogue box had a pause function, the new one 'right-click' shows a pause but its grayed out and does not function

FF cannot handle multiple tabs anymore, if you open multiple tabs it freezes FF and you get a slow script error. But the same tabs can be opened in an old version of IE 7,

the repeated crashes are well known without a fix,

the new version seems to have numerous bugs without fixes, or explanations that you need some add-on instead of a FF function.

the mere fact that FF cause double data usage without a fix or explanation is beyond inexcusable. Payinf for double data because of a code error is unbelievable. test i opened IE went to a pg open 3 tabs saved the images, and did the same in FF and it used 3.23 times more data.

Every since that Tor / FF debacle when the old versions were declared no good every version of FF since then has had to many errors without fixes that it has became an industry joke. The fact that chrome and IE or better browsers now speaks volumes. I am no code writer, but since that time, every version is so slow and bug prone, that what ever attempt to say face or redemption has been a disaster.

I suffered a hard drive crash and had it replaced. I was able to save the most important of my data from my old hard drive, but I did not think to try to save my Firefox bookmarks. I did not have a Sync account before the crash happened.

Is there any way at all to recover the bookmarks from before the crash?

Note: I am using a 2009 iMac with a brand-new hard drive and running OS X Mavericks.

Here's what I posted on the Firefox Developer site, after spending enough time there to get a sense of what they're doing, and why they have totally failed to issue a 64-bit version of Firefox. So, my question is: where can I register an email address, to make sure I get notified when Firefox issues a 64-bit version?

I think I'm starting to see why the "developer community" for Firefox has failed to grasp the NEED to issue a 64-bit version. It clearly has become a very cozy and comfortable group of insiders, who can all feel comfortable with the tech-nerd level of the group, and don't want to be bothered by us outsiders who don't belong to developer groups. Meanwhile, the fact that Java compatibility, across different 32-versus-64 bit browsers, is causing us outsiders lots of problems, is driving outsiders like me to say, "To hell with those nerds. If they can't find some way to issue a modern version of Firefox, I'm deleting it, and going to Chrome, instead, as my main alternative to IE". You guys provided a real nice bridge, over the past few years, which really did help force Microsoft make IE a whole lot better. But, you got just too incestuous, and inbred, and you failed to see what was going on outside your little club. Please send me an email, if you ever issue a 64-bit Firefox. I like Firefox a lot, and would love to use it again, some day.

Almost two weeks ago, after years of admirably flawless performance, my Firefox 26.0 was struck by recurrent episodes of complete unresponsiveness, and frequent crashes.

Efforts to remedy these problems, involving disabling various add-ons and JS, failed.

Now I have some important new information. When operating normally, Firefox never uses more than about 3% or, rarely 5% of my CPU, even when I have many tabs open to websites, even when several of those websites are playing videos, etc. (I have had the Task Manager open constantly this week in order to be able to close Firefox when it's so unresponsive I can't use X to close it, so I was in a position to observe CPU usage.) But when Firefox is in the early stages of an episode of unresponsiveness (for example, when I can't download files or play videos) the CPU usage is greater than 25%. What's even more remarkable is that if I then close all tabs, and have only one “New Tab” open (so that I'm theoretically not using Firefox at all), the CPU usage remains over 25%!!

Over the past few days I've a) confirmed and reconfirmed this perfect correlation between Firefox's unresponsiveness and a dramatic, unprecedented increase in CPU usage to in excess of 25%, occurring completely out of the blue, in no way triggered by my doing anything, and b) verified that when Firefox is responding normally, NOTHING I do causes the usage to go above about 5%.

But the question is: what is causing this abnormal CPU usage that is clearly associated with Firefox's unresponsiveness?
For the record, I have run repeated scans using Windows Defender and MalwareBytes and nothing malicious has been detected, and I have had no other problems with my computer besides the ones with Firefox. Chrome continues to operate perfectly normally.

Duplicate, please see and continue with /questions/982984, Thanks ~J99

Everyday, now, I'm getting almost a dozen .js script errors per session.

I got a .js:131 and .js:147 during navigating through Flickr photostreams.

I got a .js:155 while loading a map in MapQuest.

I got a .js:28, .js:59 and .sj:29 while loading Facebook pages and photo albums on Facebook.

I gotten .js:201 and .js:10 and...well, you get the point.

What in the heck is .js, and why do I keep getting script errors with this ending? I've done uninstall and reinstall of Firefox. I've created a new profile to test it out. My Javascript is updated both the program and plugin, though, I rarely ever use the plugin, but it doesn't seem to matter whether it is turned on or off.

Is this happening to anyone else, and have you found this to be a problem with the browser or a problem that can be solved on your computer? It has gotten ridiculous and to the point where it doesn't really make sense to use Firefox, as my browser can hang minutes at a time trying to run the script before it gives me the option to terminate it, even when I change the time to allow it to run scripts. This has happened in most versions of Firefox, but this one seems to be the worst yet.

And, please, spare me the whole load in safe mode crap, and the other elementary insulting "fixes." Thanks in advance. I want to hear from people with the problem, not people interested in giving users busy work run-arounds. Sorry to be so blunt, but we all know the deal when we ask a question, here. I'm just trying to head off the useless advice before it's even given.
