Why did default CSS behavior for a nested/child element change from "initial" to "inherit" after update?

I updated from version 106 to version 118.0.2, then to 119.0.1. The last to updates made a local HTML page behave differently than before.

The problem is this: the "inside text" below was not(!) bold before the update, I suppose the containing element of the text defaulted to "initial," but began to default to "inherit" after the update.

This is HTML:

  <TABLE>
    <TR>
      <TD class="group">
        outside text
        <TABLE>
          <TR>
            <TD>
              inside text
            </TD>
          </TR>
        </TABLE>
      </TD>
    </TR>
  </TABLE>

This is external CSS linked to the page:

 TD.group
   { font-weight:bold;
   }

So I added "TD.group TABLE{font-weight:initial;}" to the CSS to make it work as expected/before.

I wonder why this change was made by the developers, Did I miss any changes made to HTML/CSS specification?

Thank you

Hi, I seem to have an issue with Firefox rendering pages with artifacts. I use Linux Mint 21.2 Cinnamon, video adapter is Intel HD 4000. Currently running 6.2 kernel, tried to fall back to 5.15 which didn't change anything. Attached the examples, the first 2 are screenshots of the about:support page, the issue appear there consistently but not necessarily at the same place. I've tried to open Firefox in the Troubleshooting mode, and the artifact appeared right in the dialog asking for restart! (see pic. 3) Enabling software WebRender (gfx.webrender.software=true) fixes the issue.

about:support page:

 when HW compositing is on: https://termbin.com/7ith
 when SW compositing is on: https://termbin.com/rlme

I have tested memory with memtest86+ overnight with no errors, CPU has been tested by Prime95 for 3-4 hours, the iGPU seems to be working fine either in Unigine Heaven, GpuTest and glmark tests. Is there a way to fix the issue other than disabling HW compositing?

Hello!

When trying to load specific profiles, Firefox freezes and my system blocks, with fan on full speed.

I have to either kill that profile via process manager (before everything freezes) or force shutdown my computer.

The only thing these profiles have in common is that their names have special characters ('í' and 'ã'). Renaming has no effect but Firefox being unable to find them.

Unfortunately I have no error message to quote. I need to use these profiles because of their specific saved logins data.

I'm on Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) x86_64, 6.1.0-12-amd64. Firefox verson is 115.4.0esr (64-bit).

Thank you for your time. -chico

Hi. I'm experiencing a severe lag between Audio & Video on Youtube (video lags audio by more than a second)

This ONLY happens on YT, ONLY on one PC (we have 3) and ONLY using Firefox. I've been through as much of YT as I can find, but nothing changes.

Running FF in safe mode eliminates the problem. I've checked all addons/extensions etc in normal mode, but none are enabled & can't find anything else which makes any difference.

Using Chrome/Edge/IE Explorer all are fine, using a different streaming service (UK TV Play/BBC iPlayer etc), all work fine with FF.

As a last resort, I deleted FF and all associated files, folders, registry entries and caches. Upon re-installing FF the problem returns.

I've tried running without antivirus protection, in case a firewall or somthing was messing with it, bit to no avail.

I'm totally flummoxed, so if anyone can shed some light, it'd be much appreciated. I really don't want to change to another browser as FF has served us well for years.............. but....y'know.

Thanks. Annie

.... when either trying to open them by clicking "open link in new tab" or by manually opening a new tab, then typing something into the browser-line.

This has been an issue for me now for several versions of firefox ever since like 6 Months ago. It is very annoying, especially after having finished typing a rather long website-adress or search phrase, then hitting enter only to get the new tab closed right into my face without any further comments.

Help would be >MUCH< appreciated!

Cheers~

YouTube videos on Firefox getting slower and jerky. After refreshing Firefox (Settings -> Help -> More troubleshooting information -> Refresh Firefox), it is OK, but only for a short while. Then the problem starts again. Same YouTube videos are running fine with Chrome at the same time.

I have Firefox set to "Ask whether to open or save files" not to Save files. This never happened before, but now Firefox is not giving me the option to open or save files, and automatically starts the download without giving me the box with both options. I get the message Opening in x amount of time in the "Display the progress of ongoing download" button, instead of the remaining time of download where the file doesn't open when the download is finished.

How can this be corrected? I have a feeling something happened in a new version of Firefox.

From time to time i need to log into my ISP's website portal, yet from today which is since the update yesterday) it will not allow me to it has my log in details saved correctly, but when i try to log in the sit it says they are incorrect, which they are not.

At first I thought the issue was with my ISP's website, so I was on the phone to them and together we tried crhome and edge and the log ins worked just fine, but not with the Firefox browser.

So sadly either something you changed in that update seems to be messing with the log in on this site and possibly others or possibly one of the add ons I use with it together with the browser is now causing an issue and is interferring I wouldn't have the first clue.

www.google.com. PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR www.facebook.com. PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR Hi, This occurred after a moment of power loss during a thunderstorm on my Lenovo desktop. All my other sites as far as i can tell are ok. I used Edge and was able to access FB and Google on Desktop] i checked and the current version of firefox is installed on desktop

even weirder, i can access both google and FB on my laptop with firefox. I've tried syncing the two with having bookmarks etc. i can sync from laptop to desktop but not vise versa.

i thought I'd uninstall and reinstall firefox but i don't want to lose any info esp my Bookmarks on the Desktop hence why i was trying to sync the two.

My desktop is older, maybe 5-6 years, my laptop is 1 year old. Dunno if this matters. thanks, Jan

Using Windows 11. I'm using a free Proton VPN. My Firefox version is 103.02. I want to be able to continue to use the VPN when using Firefox to check my gmail accounts. If I disconnect the VPN, Firefox lets me access my mail site without a problem. When I use the VPN connected, I'm getting a PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR
