I lost all bookmarks after running a Firefox update near the end of June. I have not been able to recover them. I believe I deleted my original profile inadvertently so not sure if there is anything I can do to recover them. Suggestions?

gerald.r.vargas 4. Aug. 2026, 08:23 GMT-6 Hi, this morning for some reason all the tabs I had open couldn't been loaded. Refreshening the page didn't help either. So I decided to shut down and restart my laptop.

Unfortunately after restarting Firefox only one page and its tabs have been reloaded. All the others were gone.

After trying about:support and session:restore it didn't help either, because only the 4th of Aug. was available. Is there a possibility for a session restore from the 03rd of Aug? or the previous days? If anybody has an idea, how to do so, please let me know.

Many thanks, Gerald R. Vargas

I made a change somewhere that caused a total loss of history/open tabs even in my tab manager extension. I can't remember exactly what it was I changed but nothing I have searched here has been helpful in recovering from this. I did not want to bring my profile from home as I am using Firefox here in a work environment. Can someone point me to or explain a step by step method to be able to do this? Nothing I found in searching here has been positive.

This is a recurrent problem. I'm online with many tabs open, when all of a sudden they disappear and when I try to recover them by going in "history" [using the three lines at the top right of screen], and then selecting "recently closed tabs", and then try the "restore tabs", nothing happens! Previously, this had worked to offer me a way to reopen those tabs one-by-one, but now it doesn't restore anything. ALSO, I used to be able to shut down my computer, wait a few minutes, and then restart it, and would be offered a "restore session" option when the computer restarted, but that didn't happen today even after trying this twice.

I was once shown how to restore tabs by going up to the top right of the screen, but cannot remember how to do this. Can you please help me from loosing tabs, and my mind? Thanks.

I run normal firefox on linux. Fully up-to-date. Every time I quit the app, it reverts to a version of my profile from a month ago, and loads all the tabs I had open then, and then receives all the tabs that I sent to the device in the interim (~1 month). As I speak, it just caught the 60 or 70 tabs in this window.

I tried changing the name of my profile folder to randomstring.defaultOLD and changed one of the backups to randomstring.default. This didn't change the behavior. I'm still stuck in the loop. I saved my tabs with onetab, because firefox isn't remembering my session anymore. I thought it was something to do with updates, like it only loses its mind upon updates, but that's not true. It thinks it's updating firefox EVERY TIME, because the one time it's loading to 1 month ago it was updating, but I'm 100% sure there are no updates to firefox in my linux. It's just hallucinating.

The articles on restoring from backup are outdated. They say to use an html file. There is no html file. It's just folders for profiles, not html files. HELP!

Two days ago my Firefox icon in the dock looked very different there was an added something. I have not been able to restore my bookmarks or my sidebar and I'm now wondering if you're update did this. I want my bookmarks back in my bookmark side bar please tell me how to get it. Control B does not do it. I am legally blind and this is especially difficult for me. I don't want to have to sign in with passwords and numbers and letters something you did on your end wreck this website for me Carol Cummins

Hello! I am having trouble restoring my old Firefox profile after migrating my system from Windows 10 to Linux (Fedora). I have a backup file in .html format that is 197 MB in size (originally created on Windows). When I try to select and restore it using Firefox's built-in recovery tool, it throws an error: "Something is wrong with this file. Please try again with a different file." What I have tried (and what didn't work): Moved the file from an external drive to the local Linux Downloads folder (the error persists). Tried dragging and dropping the file directly into Firefox (the recovery page loads, but the restore buttons are missing or inactive due to security/script restrictions). Tried renaming the file extension from .html to .zip to extract its contents manually, but the archiver threw a "Not a zip archive" error. The built-in recovery script fails to process a 197 MB HTML file, likely due to size limits or memory handling on local files. Could you please advise on how to properly handle and restore such a large backup file or extract my data (passwords, history, bookmarks) from it on Linux? Thank you in advance!

I opened Firefox this morning and there were no bookmarks or history. After looking online, I came to the conclusion that I needed to find the places.sqlite and bookmarkbackups files and folders. However, I can't seem to locate either.

I am running Firefox v153.0 (aarch64) on Mac OS v. 26.5.2

I have Time machine backups, but I need help locating the correct files to restore. Thank you.
