Firefox crashes and does not shut down when closed

Windows 10, Firefox 66.0.1 crashes and does not shut down when closed, with these 2 error messages: 1) Mozilla Crash Reporter (all boxes are checked)
When browser is reopened another error message appears: 2) Close Firefox: Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window.
This appears even after a long delay before restarting Firefox. I have gone through the suggested list of fixes, with no effect.

Does Firefox run its own updating service outside of the system updates? I like to be in control of when my computer updates, so I have turned off all automatic updates, and about once per week, I just run 'sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade' and it takes care of it. I usually do that either first thing in the morning, or when I have a few minutes before going home, so that updates don't interrupt my workflow during the day.
Firefox seems to update itself outside of my package management software. It is incredibly frustrating to open a new tab or window and get that annoying freaking page that says it applied an update in the background and just needs to restart. Not only does it interrupt what I'm doing (especially if I'm listening to something in another tab and have to close it and find it again), but it NEVER restarts automatically, and when I restart it manually, it does a piss poor job of resuming where I was.
I've gone to about:config and changed app.update.auto to false, but that doesn't seem to change anything.
Please help, if you can. I don't want to go to a chromium-based browser!

I have added the FireFox Carbon custom theme to FireFox. Since the latest update (66.0.1) it keeps getting disabled. I can customize the browser and re-enable it, but then a while later it will be disabled again. I can't tell exactly what event the disabling is tied to, possibly when closing or re-opening the browser, but it doesn't seem to do that every time. No errors are being displayed.
Is it possible to add the Task Manager to the toolbar, or map it onto a keyboard shortcut?

I REALLY looks "clunky" and ugly. How can i get the old page formatting back? I'd include photos, but it doesn't show up in screenshots. Also, the logos for my various shortcuts aren't appearing on my home page, like they were before. Images of Facebook disappear when I float my mouse over them. I'll bet there's more, but that's all I've found so far...

Hey there! I've been struggling to solve this problem. Basically the dropdown URL, 'Remember this password' popup and menu list sporadically open while using Firefox. It usually starts after I've clicked on the menu/typed in a URL etc. These menus hang on the screen after Firefox has been minimized as well.
I've tried Safe Mode, disabling plugins and refreshing Firefox, none of which have worked.
Any help with this would be much appreciated!
